Today I have the privilege of speaking with Dr. Jessie Hehmeyer to discuss metabolism, cravings and detoxification.
We discuss the importance of identifying root causes for lasting health improvements, and why thyroid health alone is rarely the full answer to weight loss struggles.
Plus Dr. H’s top three often-overlooked reasons for slow metabolism, including:
Elevated inflammation: How to test it and why it mattersSuboptimal insulin sensitivity: What lab results can reveal before blood sugar issues ariseGunked up detox pathways: the body naturally cleanses itself and why most marketed "detox" products aren’t necessary. As the holidays approach, Lisa and Dr. Meyer discuss effective strategies for managing cravings and blood sugar to stay in control while enjoying seasonal treats.
BONUS! Dr. H and I continued chatting and ended up recording a BONUS AUDIO for you! Grab that HERE if you want to hear us discuss specifically how to address the inflammation she indicates is a big reason for slow metabolism.

What’s for dinner? The perpetual question that has to get answered day in and day out. And for many of my clients, solving this question ends up on their plates.
We know that cooking from home is actually a health habit that can improve diet quality, help with weight loss, and prevent diabetes. Harvard Health notes that teaching people to cook from home can even be considered a medical intervention. (see this article)
I brought Mel Gunnell from Mel’s Kitchen Cafe on the podcast to help us figure out how to get dinner on the table every night. We chat about some easy semi-homemade shortcuts and the real key for both of us to being able to cook more often than not.More from Well with Lisa:

There’s a big difference between WHAT to think and HOW to think. When you learn to think of yourself as the solution–that really is the secret to life.
This episode will teach you how to recognize that you can utilize yourself, you can rely on yourself, you can trust yourself to actually be the solution to every single problem, every single obstacle, and every single goal you have. Tracy gives four simple steps for this, using the SELF framework.

Despite the fact that I’m a “weight loss coach,” I actually love telling people they can improve their health and fitness without acknowledging their body weight.
This is precisely the message from my guest Michael Ulloa. He says, “That's not to say that losing weight won't improve health markers. It can. But if you're someone who has for so long been obsessed with weight loss, and that's what all of your behaviors and habits are tailored towards, separate yourself from that for a little bit, just actually focus on the habits and behaviors that will improve your health, and that's when the magic happens.”
We want more magic happening right? Listen in to our conversation and let me know what you think!
