In this episode, Hunter Leininger shares how he is preparing for the Triple Crown of 200s, how he is able to find the joy in suffering, and his biggest tips to mentally get through any endurance challenge.
Hunter's athletic career began at the young age of 7, inspired by his father, Jeff Leininger, an adventure racer himself. Determined to follow in his father's footsteps, Hunter completed his first 6-hour adventure race, marking the beginning of a series of groundbreaking achievements.
By age 11, Hunter became the youngest finisher of the 24-Hour Adventure Racing National Championship, a record previously held by a 23-year-old. He continued to push boundaries, setting world records as the youngest finisher in several grueling events, including a 3-day expedition race at age 12, a 4-day Adventure Racing World Series race at 14, and the 7-day Adventure Racing World Championship at 16. At 18, he was the youngest competitor in Amazon's World's Toughest Race: Eco-Challenge Fiji, completing the 11-day race alongside his father.
His recent accomplishments include setting the Fastest Known Time (FKT) for running 200 miles across Florida, completing the distance in 55 hours, 59 minutes, and 45 seconds, surpassing the previous record held by David Goggins by over 14 hours. Additionally, he became the fastest person to run the length of Florida, covering 1,110 miles on the Florida Trail in 21 days and 11 hours. And most recently, setting a record for traversing Iceland self-supported!
Hunter's story is a testament to the power of determination, the significance of a supportive environment, and the relentless pursuit of one's passions. His achievements continue to inspire a new generation to chase their dreams, regardless of age.

Training for an ultra requires more than just logging miles and completing workouts; it also requires recovering well, so you can perform your best. It requires you to pivot the plan when things arise in life to make sure you’re still reaching your goals. And it requires you to be intentional in the way you approach your training and races.
That’s what Jen Higgins did when she set out to run her first 50 Miler and 100K this past year. And all of these things allowed her to be the first place finisher at both of those races!
Jen Higgins is a mother, a mental health professional, and ultrarunner who has completed the 100K, 50 miler, and 50K distances
In this episode, Jen shares how she was able to optimize her training and recovery to perform well in her first 50+ mile races, how she pivoted her training when life got crazy, and how she approached her races to get the best results she could get.
Huge thank you to Jen for coming on the show!

Jeff Browning is one of the greatest ultrarunners of our generation. Winning over two dozen 100-mile races, being on the podium of some of the hardest ultras, and most recently, securing an FKT on the Colorado Trail, Jeff has immense experience in the sport of ultrarunning.
Some of the biggest keys to his success comes from his mindset and how he mentally approaches ultras. And his approach isn’t woo-woo; it’s backed by neuroscience and psychology, which speaks to why Jeff is able to keep performing at a high level throughout his career.
On top of that, logistics play a huge role in ultrarunning. When it comes to pacers, crew, and time at aid stations, optimizing those things also can be a difference between a longer finish time and a PR. And Jeff has fine-tuned his logistical strategy to be top-notch over the years.
In this episode, Jeff shares practical tips on how to deploy proven and powerful mental strategies in an ultra, how to rewire your brain to not DNF in an ultra (even if you have before), and how to save tons of time in your ultras by mastering the logistics.
Huge thank you to Jeff for coming on the show!

Is it possible to run an ultramarathon with no prior background as a runner? Absolutely.
And our guest today proves that - as she went from no running or endurance background and 100+ pounds obese to finishing multiple 50Ks in the top 10, completing the Leadville 100M Mountain Bike Race, and finishing her first 50 miler recently!
You’ll hear from Christie Brinker on how she was able to transform her life through running, and what were the biggest keys to her success to go from non-runner to runner, while continuing to stay on the path consistently throughout her life.
We chat about the most important mindset to have when training for an ultra, what key training strategies that are needed to make massive progress, misconceptions about training that people should avoid, and how to put together a plan that gets you ready for an ultramarathon.
Christie is also a coach here at Everyday Ultra and is a UESCA Certified Ultrarunning coach who is committed to helping athletes crush their ultramarathon goals.
Huge thank you to Christie for coming on the show!

What does it take to have an amazing race in a type of terrain that is a different style from what you’re normally used to?
For Jeff Mogavero, an accomplished mountain ultrarunner for On Running, he looked to answer that question by racing in the Javelina Jundred 100 miler, just months after completing UTMB.
And even though the flatter course was relatively unique territory for Jeff based on his past races, he was able to finish second place and win a Golden Ticket to Western States 100!
How did he do it? In this episode he shares his training, race strategy, hydration strategy, and mindset that all led to his special day in the desert.
We cover things such as:
How to go from mountain training to flat training
Optimizing mindset both in training and in the race
How to nail hydration (even if it has been a struggle point in the past)
How to execute a plan in a race, even when the conditions are tough
How to enjoy the process amidst hard training
Huge thank you to Jeff for coming on the show!

We did it! At Javelina Jundred, I ran a 15:28 100-mile time with a negative split and came in 10th place male.
And I can now say that I got redemption after last year’s race that didn’t go well.
This podcast breaks down my training for the race, what it takes to improve on mistakes, how to train intently to get a PR at an ultramarathon distance, and how to overcome mental low points to turn a bad situation into your greatest triumph.
The point of this podcast isn’t just to recap the race; I put this out to inspire you to never give up on your big goals. Even when you fail along the way.
This result was years in the making, and I faced a lot of obstacles, self-doubt, and challenges along the way. But know that even if you face the same, you can overcome those things to run YOUR best race ever, get redemption, and feel fully fulfilled by the result you put out there.
Plus, we cover all of your questions on heat acclimation, nutrition and hydration, pacing, mindset, gear, and more!
Thank you so much for listening and for all of your support!

You can be the fittest runner in the world; but if you don't BELIEVE that you can actually accomplish your running goals, then the fitness won't pay off.
And it goes way more than just saying you believe - you have to really feel it internally. And there's a process you have to go through to do that.
In this episode, I share exactly how to do that and how to build belief, confidence, and strength to accomplish anything you want to in the ultrarunning world.

What if your legs were able to run for longer periods of time before getting tired, sore, or fatigued?
That'd be pretty awesome. Because that would mean you'd be able to perform better, run faster, and likely get the results you're looking for in your next ultra.
But the problem is that a lot of runners don't set their legs up for success in their training to be durable. And even if they do the right things, they do it in a way that leads to injury, overuse, or underrecovery.
That's why in this episode, I'll break down how you can set up your training to increase durability, prevent muscular breakdown, and run stronger for longer.

So, if you're dealing with low motivation, lack of energy, no desire to run, or just the overwhelm of life preventing you from getting in that run, this is the episode for you.
I'll share how I've navigated through difficult times in my life, such as my father's recent passing, to maintain my running and stay strong despite going through mental low points.

If you’re lining up for 100 miles, your mindset needs to be strong. And that requires you to take a deeper look inside yourself to make sure that you have the trust and confidence to take on the miles.
For David Roche, he exuded this confidence, mindset, and belief in himself when he won his very first 100 mile race at the Leadville 100, shattering a course record that stood for many years.

David Roche is a running coach, podcast host of the Some Work, All Play Podcast, elite runner, and thought leader in the running space who has multiple podium finishes and is now the Leadville 100 course record holder.
In this episode, David shares how he was able to shift his mindset to dive fully into 100 miles with confidence, how he was able to build himself and his abilities to do great things in running, and training principles that helped him to be successful at Leadville.
