Now, over here at The Dietologist, we get it. The holidays can stir up a whirlwind of emotions, especially when those well-meaning friends and family members just can't resist asking the age-old question: "When are you having a baby?" Tis also the season when our DMs start blowing up with messages like, "Help! Another year's gone by, and my baby plans are still MIA!"
The holidays are awesome, no doubt about it. There's more freedom, time to relax, parties galore, mouthwatering dishes, and, of course, drinks!
But hold onto your Santa hats because here's the holiday plot twist: If your goal is to ring in the new year with fertile intentions, it's time for you and your partner to be on top of your diet and lifestyle game.

Did you know that in 2020, more than half of the first-time mums were in their 30s? This is a far cry from 15% before 1981, 23% in 1991, an even higher than just over 10 years ago in 2011, where 43% of first time mums were in their 30s. Factors like education, careers, finances, relationships, and housing markets (looking at you, Sydney!) contribute to this trend.
But, here's the kicker – our biology couldn't care less about all that.
As fertility rates gradually decline with age, it's crucial to understand fertility in your 30s. So, in today's episode, I dive into the top tips to prepare your body for pregnancy in your 30s. Hypothalamic amenorrhea (HA) is responsible for around 30% of cases of secondary amenorrhea in women of reproductive age.
In this episode, we delve into the topic of HA, clarifying what it is and dispelling common myths, like the misconception that it only affects individuals in smaller bodies or with eating disorders.
At The Dietologist, we often see people with HA struggle to seek support because the solutions seem simple in theory: eat more, move less, and manage stress. However, we explore the complexities and barriers people face when trying to implement these changes, which can be rooted in body image issues, diet culture, eating disorders, habits, and fear of weight gain.

This week, we're absolutely thrilled to introduce our special community guest on the podcast - Sarah @ceomumma on Instagram and founder of @mummyandh, a solo mum to the adorable two-year-old, Hartley. This episode is all about her incredible journey as a solo mumma by choice, finding out she had Type 2 Diabetes right before her IUI and navigating PCOS, and then navigating the road through to IVF and beyond!
Sarah's journey paints a vivid picture of the emotional peaks and valleys, the waiting, and the unexpected twists and turns that often accompany the fertility journey. It's been nothing short of a rollercoaster ride, and many of us can relate to that.
But here's the bright side that we'll delve into: The importance of building a strong support network, making small and doable lifestyle changes, finding the right healthcare team to offer guidance, and making informed decisions about nutrition. Ditching meat and animal products is nothing all that new. But in the past few decades, there is an ever-increasing number of people choosing to go vegan, vegetarian or plant-based whether it be for religion, animal welfare, environmental & sustainability or health-related reasons.
A common question we are asked here at The Dietologist is: A vegan or vegetarian diet helpful or harmful when it comes to fertility health?

Today, we're going to talk about how to involve your partner in pre-conception and fertility care from the get-go!
Trying to get pregnant can be a very exciting time. Ideally, trying to conceive (TTC) should feel like something you're doing as a team (for those of you ith partners). But it isn't always simple and easy, and at times, it can put pressure on a relationship. Trust me, I've seen it all play out in consultations before!
Though conception may be more physically involved for the female partner, the male partner can play a crucial role in supporting the process and increasing the chances of success, after all, male fertility concerns account for 30-50% of all infertility cases!
We'll delve into the ways your partners can actively participate and show unwavering commitment to your TTC (trying to conceive) journey. Armed with practical tips, this will be a great one to share with your partner or listen together on your next road trip!
