🌸 We all have a singular relationship with flowers. Each country magnifies this relationship in its own way. In Japan, ikebana is an ancestral floral art which approaches the living in all its grandeur by praising its irregularities. More than a visual concept, it is a philosophy of life in its own right. To tell us about it, Masami Charlotte went to meet Akiko Usami, a Japanese florist based in Paris and trained in ikebana by one of the most illustrious schools in the country.

🌸 Floral art is an art in its own right. It comes with a rich history and ancestral techniques that are learned and passed on to preserve the living. If in recent years, the yield has prevailed over the living, putting aside the ancient knowledge, slower, to cultivate and care for flowers, a willingness to transmit differently and better has emerged in parallel. This is the case of the florist and artist Wagner Krausch whom we met. Based in London, Wagner co-founded the London Flower School, which he has since handed over the reins to, while continuing to teach this necessary art, at his own pace.
In parallel, Masami Charlotte Lavault takes the opportunity to tell us about his farm school project, while advising us on how to cut a beautiful rose bush.

🌸 Consuming local is nowadays necessary if we want to preserve our environment. But when it comes to flowers, what about them? Désirée, a flower store nestled in the heart of the 11th arrondissement of Paris founded by Audrey Venant and Mathilde Bignon, is the very example of a reflection around the flower, concerned about the world around them and their impact. Masami-Charlotte went to meet Mathilde, one of the co-founders. Between the world flower market, cultures and the different devices that exist for a more respectful floriculture, Désirée opens its doors to us in order to understand a little better this unknown business of the general public 🌸

🌺 Discreet, flowers are nevertheless a great source of information about us, our history and our society. But how do we live with them? To answer this question, Masami Charlotte spoke with Cynthia Fan, a PhD researcher in plant genetics at the University of Edinburgh/Cape Town and a florist. She works at the Royal Botanical Garden in Edinburgh, and co-manages a micro flower farm, Ochre Botanical Studio. In parallel, we went to the Jardin des Plantes in Paris to observe its flora 🌸

Where do flowers come from? What is their history? How do they live? In this second episode, Masami Charlotte exchanged remotely with Edwige Moyroud, researcher and scientist at the University of Cambridge, to help us to see more clearly. We also went to the herbarium of the Museum of Natural History where Thomas Haevermans showed us some plates of the plants Edwige talked about.
