Our Final conversation for the season is one that needs to be had. Real and raw conversations seem to be the theme of the season, and something that we feel society needs more of. As Brett Pechey opens up, it’s obvious the heartache and despair in his voice about his personal experience with mental health and suicide. We acknowledge how hard this is for Brett to share and for some to hear.
But the hard conversations are always worth having.
They help create awareness, break the cycle and remind us that help and support surrounds us.
We thank you for listening to season 6 and hope you enjoyed the conversations as much as we did. We will be taking a break as we knuckle down in other parts of our careers but will be back before you know it. If you have just discovered us and are wanting more, all of our previous episodes are available on all the usual platforms and our website www.fromthesaddle.com.au. If you’re loving the content and want to hear more, make sure you leave a review.

As an enthusiastic 8 year old boy selling phantom bulls down in the shed, to now being known as a leading Auctioneer in Australia’s stud market, Wayne York holds the title of being the youngest to win the Australian National Young Auctioneering Competition at the age of 20. Wayne’s eye for cattle and passion for the success of a sale has certainly earned the respect of vendors and buyers.
Throughout this interview Wayne and Caitlyn break down what it takes to do what he does, the pressure, the skill and the ability. The power of Wayne’s mind is intriguing to be able to do so many things at once. For every lot he’s selling, he’s reading the crowd, he’s watching the bull, articulating the facts and figures on him, and he’s recognising what each interested bidder may be looking to gain out of this purchase. Within moments, even seconds, he’s got the power to alter the sale. -
Life is about the journey - the experiences that lead us to the destinations. 20 years ago Jon Templeton ran his finger through a list of names and numbers and picked one. Completely oblivious to who he was calling, he was determined to start his career by getting a job training horses.
A humble and down to earth vibe, Jon and Caitlyn get pretty real about life as a Horse trainer. The lifestyle, Juggling a family and what momentarily took the passion and enjoyment out of his career.
We are now proud to have Jon Templeton's name listed as a guest on our playlist. Almost as good as that time he was listed in the credits as Hugh Jackman's riding double in the Baz Luhrmann movie - Australia.

We walk among a generation that are constantly needing to be reassured, validated and complimented. Our next guest couldn't be further from that. In fact, it was a condition of doing this interview that we didn't talk about his success, because as far as he's concerned he's yet to achieve it.
Will Durkin comes from a humble background, 29 years of age and rapidly becoming one of the most well known names within the Australian horse and Campdrafting industry.
Two years I have been trying to convince Will to do this interview with me. Will is certainly more at home in the saddle holding the reins as opposed to a microphone.
However, he couldn't hide the pride in his eyes as he reflected back on just some of the people that have been a part of his journey so far. -
The history and experience Bruce holds within the industry as a whole is incredible. He's humble ways made for a short conversation, but you'll find yourself hanging onto every word.
Join guest host Scott Keogh as he briefly chats with the one and only Bruce McNaughton.
Please note, this conversation was recorded in 2021. Some conversation points and remarks may be relevant to that time. -
Campdrafting is the fastest growing sport in the Nation. At a time of significant growth and substantial changes, Rohan Marks is elected as the President of the largest Campdraft Affiliation in Australia. Whilst we get a little insight into Rohan as a person, this interview isn't based on his life and we didn't get to talk about all the important people that play a role in it. Host, Caitlyn Hewitt was more interested in chatting with Rohan about some hot topics that are raising eyebrows and frustration levels.
Caitlyn is not a competitor, she is however a secretary and all 3 of her businesses circulate around the campdrafting industry. Her point of view is a little different but we think you'll find this interview to be insightful, real and to the point.

His buckle collection and trophy cabinet exceeds more than most ever will. However, the focus of this next conversation is more on the person than the victories. Ben Hall comes from a very well known Campdafting Family but Cattle Droving runs thick in his veins too. Some of the greatest that industry has seen.
I'd heard his name, we'd interviewed his wife and I'd read a lot about him. But, before this interview I'd never actually met Ben.
I was pleasantly surprised how comfortable Ben was having this conversation with me.
He sat kicked back in the seat with a beer in his hand, a smirk on his face and cheek in his eye. We laughed, he shared some great advice and there was a glimpse of emotion. He took host Caitlyn Hewitt on a journey she never expected.

If history were taught in the form of stories, it would never be forgotten.
The Dawson river water runs deep in his blood and the dust of the district I have no doubt is in his veins.
Stewart Anderson was once the warm voice over every PA system in the Theodore Community and has helped shaped the young minds in so many ways. From a Pony Club instructor to a Rural Fire Warden, Stewart has an incredible story to share. Much like Stewart's smirk, our conversation is warm, full of history and pride. -
Ross has bought and sold over 28,000 horses throughout his time. His larger than life personality shines through this interview as he re caps his life in the sale ring and on the road. Ross talks about transporting horses day and night week in and week out, the people along the way and everything in between. Join host Kay Becker as she re lives this incredible history with Ross.
