Money talk can feel awkward, but today’s guest is here to change that.
Claire Wasserman, the founder of Ladies Get Paid, teaches us exactly how women can navigate salary negotiations with confidence—no more sweaty palms or second-guessing.
Avery and Claire first dive into the wage gap and discuss why salary negotiation is a skill every woman needs. From researching compensation (hint: it’s more than just Glassdoor) to documenting your wins and understanding the full scope of benefits, Claire offers actionable strategies to help you advocate for yourself at work like a pro.
She also breaks down the role of HR in salary discussions and offers tips on building workplace allies to support your professional growth. Pro tip: likability does matter in negotiations—but so does timing, preparation, and knowing what not to say.
Plus, Claire gives us her real thoughts on viral career advice—like the idea of “being delusional” in your asks—and advocates for a grounded, research-based approach that leads to real results.
Whether you’re gearing up for a performance review, planning your next big career move, or simply looking to feel more confident at work, this episode is packed with insights and strategies to help you own your worth.

What if you could hack your happiness? Lauren Berlingeri, the co-founder of HigherDOSE, will teach you how in this episode.
The certified holistic nutritionist and health coach shares her journey behind the wellness brand that’s changing how we think about self-care.
Lauren and Avery get real about the science of “happy chemicals”—dopamine, oxytocin, serotonin, and endorphins (yep, that’s where the name HigherDOSE comes from!). They break down what these mood-boosters are, why they matter, and how to “microdose” them in your daily life.
Spoiler alert: quick fixes, like that pre-girls’-night-out glass of wine, might feel good in the moment but real, sustainable joy? That takes some mindful magic (don’t worry—Lauren will give you the cheat codes).
From the healing power of infrared technology to transitioning between masculine and feminine energies, Lauren shares her tips for balancing her busy schedule as a CEO and a mom of twins while prioritizing her own wellness. Yes, it’s possible!

Turns out, we’ve all got a lot more in common with a professional athlete than we think. Yes, you included! You’re in for a refreshingly honest look at the realities of life as a professional athlete, reminding us that self-doubt and pressure aren’t signs of weakness—they’re simply part of the journey, something we all experience, athletes or not.

Avery sat down with professional golfer Lauren Coughlin, who’s been golfing since the age of seven and making a name for herself on the LPGA Tour. With two championships and eight top-10 finishes this year alone, Lauren has not only mastered the game of golf but she’s also learned invaluable lessons about discipline, resilience, and navigating the highs and lows of a competitive career. Lauren's husband even quit his full-time job this year to join her team.

Avery and Lauren also talk about how golf is considered an old boys’ club where men make business deals and network, and how as a woman and first-time golfer, you can also break into these male-dominated spaces with confidence.

Lauren gives us an inside understanding of how her journey in golf has shaped her mindset and work ethic, and the importance of quieting your inner critic and having a strong support system—all things we can relate to in the corporate 9-5 grind.

If you’ve ever struggled with self-doubt, managing pressure, or finding ways to keep growing in your career, this episode is packed with actionable takeaways that will inspire you to keep pushing forward—whether you’re on the green or in the boardroom.

  • This episode is brought to you by EBY.

Women have been conditioned to live with discomfort—at work, at home, and even in our bras.

Julie Sukosd, the Chief Revenue Officer at EBY (which stands for Empowered By You), has set out to change that. Why? Because as she says in our conversation, if we don’t put ourselves first, then who will?

Julie covers the all-so-common ways women feel uncomfortable at work, whether it’s giving or receiving feedback, advocating for ourselves, and even what we choose to put on our bodies first thing in the morning. We talk about how this impacts our personal empowerment and well-being, and how women can reclaim their self-worth and prioritize themselves once and for all.

EBY is an intimate apparel brand that is anti-metal underwire. Instead, their innovative bras offer gentle, poke-free support using a nylon thread that’s 3D printed inside a line of silicone and then coated with their signature slip-proof flocking. You no longer have to compromise your comfort!
They also have a mission of helping a million women in Colombia, Nicaragua, Haiti, and India transition out of poverty and into business through micro-loans that come from every purchase.

This conversation reminded us that comfort is not a luxury—it’s a necessity.

This conversation is unlike any other we’ve had on Girlboss Radio. It’s raw, it’s vulnerable, and it’s quite emotional. We talk about addiction, depression, and PTSD. If your heart is feeling up for it, we hope Alexa’s story will help you feel less alone—if not, save this for when you’re ready.

If you believe you need to have it all figured out from day one, you’ll want to hear from this week’s guest, Alexa Suter, the founder of Huha, a brand of breathable, ultra-comfy underwear made from mineral and tree-derived fibers.

Alexa has always felt like she was unhireable. She thought she was too emotionally unstable to sustain a 9-5 job. And this unshakeable feeling shaped her entrepreneurial journey. She never even had a full-time job and knew early on that a traditional career path was not in the cards.

In this episode, Alexa shares her journey dealing with grief and its profound impact on her career, reflecting on how those challenging moments shaped her perspective as a leader. She opens up about the personal work she did to navigate her Dark Night of the Soul and the moment she made her first million—and had a mental breakdown. Through navigating hardship, she turned her experiences into fuel for her entrepreneurial spirit.

Now, as the head of a multi-million dollar company, Alexa truly embodies resilience and authenticity. She shows us that embracing vulnerability can spark incredible growth and success.

  • What if taking a career break was the answer to recovering from burnout, reigniting your creativity, and achieving a better work-life balance?

    It was for Dani Nelson!

With over 10 years working in the marketing industry, Dani transitioned from a full-time corporate gal working at Shopify and Canadian telecommunications company TELUS to full-time entrepreneurship as a content creator, marketing consultant, and Liberty Leave™ coach, dedicated to empowering women to take their own mini-retirements and explore the world (or rediscover what lights them up outside of work).

Dani shares her concept of "Liberty Leave," a term she coined to describe the transformative power of stepping away from work to recharge and reflect. During her first sabbatical, she spent six months solo traveling in Southeast Asia, and now, she’s on her second one, living in Malaga, Spain.

In today’s episode, Dani recounts her own journey from a demanding corporate career to a life filled with travel and self-discovery, highlighting the often-overlooked signs of burnout that can creep into our lives.

But why aren’t career breaks normalized? How will you explain that gap in your resume to future employers? And what will your family think?!

Don’t worry! Dani covers it all while offering practical advice for those considering a sabbatical. We discuss the importance of financial planning and the emotional courage it takes to embrace the unknown, no matter what stage of your career. Spoiler: You have to be risk-averse!

Dani inspired us to rethink our relationship with work and to understand that rest isn’t a luxury; it’s a necessity. And 2-3 weeks of vacation per year just isn’t cutting it. Curious about how to give yourself permission to take that much-needed break? You won’t want to miss this conversation.

  • Have you ever noticed how women are often told to stay humble, downplay their achievements, and avoid sharing their successes? When we do share our wins, we’re labeled as cocky or self-obsessed.

Stefanie discusses her journey with self-promotion and why she is passionate about changing the conversation. We cover practical ways to celebrate your achievements, how to promote yourself online (again, it’s not cringe to brag!), and why you shouldn’t hesitate to ask friends to brag about you too.

This conversation is perfect for anyone who has struggled with sharing their successes or felt hesitant to own their worth.

AI is everywhere. So what does that mean for jobs? Are they all going to be obsolete in the next 10 years? And how can we prepare ourselves—and our careers—for the future?

In this episode, Dr. Joy Buolamwini answers all of your most pressing AI questions. She is the founder of the Algorithmic Justice League, an award-winning researcher, and a “poet of code.” As the author of the national best-selling book Unmasking AI, Dr. Joy has dedicated her career to uncovering and addressing racial and gender biases in artificial intelligence. With degrees from both Oxford and MIT, and recognition as one of Forbes’ Top 50 Women in Tech, she shares invaluable insights and advice for navigating the complexities of this ever-changing technology.

In the age of AI, protecting ourselves starts with knowing our rights and options—like the right to refuse facial recognition technology at airports and identifying which AI tools are ethical (and which ones aren’t—looking at you, ChatGPT).

In our conversation, Avery and Dr. Joy dive into the positive sides of AI and the future of work, exploring how it can enhance feedback, boost efficiency, and streamline summarizing information. But she also emphasizes the importance of being cautious about how we adopt AI, both in our workplaces and beyond. Dr. Joy shines a light on the real consequences of flawed systems, particularly for marginalized communities, leading to wrongful arrests, misidentifications, and discriminatory hiring. She highlights how crucial representation and storytelling are in raising awareness about the limitations and biases of AI.

So, while AI isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, we hope this conversation eases your anxiety, and offers you the knowledge and perspective needed to engage thoughtfully with the technology shaping our world. It’s better to prepare for the future than try to avoid it.

Who says you can’t have it all? Alli Webb proves otherwise, having seamlessly transitioned from a stay-at-home mom to a powerhouse entrepreneur who truly does have it all right now (her words)—and with great hair, too. Keyword: seamlessly. Don’t be fooled—it hasn’t always been easy.

Alli Webb is the founder of the iconic blowout salon chain Drybar, a New York Times bestselling author, a successful businesswoman, and a mother of two. She expanded Drybar beyond the salons with a successful product line available in major retailers like Sephora and Ulta and sold the brand for a staggering $255 million in 2019.

In today’s episode, we chatted about  Alli’s latest book, The Messy Truth, her mindset shift from managing a single location to scaling Drybar to over 160 salons nationwide, and discussed the signs of burnout that ultimately led to what she calls “her great depression.” Plus, Alli pulls back the curtain of what was really happening behind closed doors during the peak of her success and she shares a sneak peek about what’s next for her (spoiler: a new haircare business!).

This is the last episode of the season, but we’ll be back very soon after a short summer hiatus. We couldn't think of a more perfect guest to end things off with than multi-hyphenate Kamie Crawford.

She has quite the CV. She’s a producer and creator, the host of MTV’s Catfish: The TV Show, Are You The One? *and* Ex on the Beach, a Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model, and the former Miss Teen USA 2010. She also has her very own relationship advice podcast, Relationshi*t.

Kamie originally wanted to be a dermatologist, but quickly pivoted to communications after taking biology in college and hating it. She did local red carpet interviews and sent her reel to different news stations. She even moved to New York and modeled while trying to land TV hosting work that never came.

Things changed in 2018 when someone in casting for Catfish reached out to see if she’d be interested in guest hosting with Nev Schulman. She was a natural and landed a spot as a full-time host.

In today's episode of Girlboss Radio, Kamie talks about lying on her job application to land her first job at American Apparel, when to know which career opportunities to say "yes" to, and how being delusional is the reason she got to where she is today.

We’ve all felt like an outsider at one point—Ciera Rogers wants you to use it to your advantage.

Ciera grew up houseless on the streets of Houston, Texas, in her mom’s Jeep. Then, with just $10, she moved to LA, lived off of her friend’s couch and started posting her thrifted and vintage clothes for sale on Instagram.

And this is how Babes was born in 2012. She pivoted from vintage to curve-friendly basics when she noticed a gap in the market. Yup, this was way before Skims was even a thing.

Today, Babes has hit seven figures and has been worn by Kim Kardashian and even championed by Beyoncé. Ciera has been featured as "the designer to watch" in media outlets including Galore, Black Enterprise, Elle South Africa and others.

Ciera is now a homeowner, and her debut memoir, called The Outsider Advantage, tells her story of resilience, determination and entrepreneurial grit.

Have you ever wished that you started a TikTok in lockdown? Wish you could make money from brand deals like your fave content creators? We get it, tbh. After 50 percent of Gen Zs list influencer as a dream career—a higher percentage than any other age group.

And in the age of unsteady employment and shaky economy, it's all too easy to daydream about the joining privileged realm of full-time influencers. The reality? A little different.

Last week, Later Media named Girlboss Radio a top influencer and marketing podcast—in fact, they put us in the #1 spot. Inspired by this, we went back to the Girlboss Radio archive to pull the most advice-y clips from our conversations with influencers and content creators—may of which we've never aired before.

Today you'll hear from mega-influencers like Matilda Djerf, Vivian Tu (a.k.a. Your Rich BFF), Jillian Harris and Sarah Nicole Landry of The Birds Papaya and others. They reveal how to reach your dreams, whether influencing is all its cracked up to be and how to successfully climb "cringe mountain."

If you have dreams of revving up your content creation this year, consider this your supercut.

"I'm incredibly persistent. And I have a pretty high threshold for being uncomfortable. And that's definitely what I credit my success with," says Laney Crowell, who founded the natural, clean beauty brand Saie, which is a Sephora staple and viral sensation.
But Laney never thought she'd start a beauty brand. She was the assistant beauty editor at Lucky magazine (and also had stints at ELLE and StyleCaster), she went through seven rounds of interviews (!!!) to be Anna Wintour's assistant, and then started her own blog, The Moment.
Saie Beauty was born out of her modest but loyal following and has grown into a clean-beauty darling.
The brand has nearly tripled its business in the US from 2022 to 2023, and in 2023, Saie’s social community grew 134% year-over-year. Plus, there are more than 2,000 ingredients Saie refuses to use in their products.
On today's episode, Laney talks about the importance of action (even if you don't have all the answers yet), whether or not she experiences imposter syndrome (the answer might surprise you) and why we should all have "expanders" in our career.

Dating apps seem to be the hot topic of conversation as of late—but not for the best reasons.
First, Bumble. After weeks of teasing a re-brand, the dating app’s latest billboard campaign is sparking passionate social-media discourse accusing Bumble of dismissing women’s (perfectly valid) choice to be celibate. They've since issued an apology on their Instagram and said that they will be removing these ads from their global marketing campaign and donating to charity.
Then, there's Tinder and Hinge. This year on Valentine’s Day, six plaintiffs sued Match Group, the parent company of Tinder and Hinge, claiming that they gamify dating and turn users into "addicts.” They also claimed that Match Group isn’t interested in helping users find genuine connections, but instead, they want to keep users purchasing subscriptions and other paid perks to help boost revenue, according to NPR.
If you’re currently single, or have been in the past few years, you’ve probably felt the growing frustration around dating apps. Dating can feel hopeless. So much so that people are ditching the apps altogether in favor of trying to find love the old fashion way. Which is easier said than done.
But are dating apps the problem, or are we the problem?
Today's guest is Stephanie Danzi, the senior vice president of global marketing at Tinder. Avery and Stephanie chat about dating app burnout, what people are getting wrong about Tinder, and whether dating apps will ever go away.

Elaine Welteroth is a bit of a Girlboss legend. She was a speaker at our Girlboss Rally conference for two years in a row, and has been a guest on Girlboss Radio. We’ve been champions of Elaine’s career since her days at Teen Vogue when she became the editor-in-chief at just 29 years old, the youngest in Condé Nast history.
Since then, she’s gone on to write a New York Times best-selling memoir, More Than Enough, and teach a course with MasterClass about designing your dream career.
We're so excited to have Elaine on the pod once again to talk about her latest venture: birthFUND, a non-profit that supports families in the U.S. who can’t afford the out-of-pocket costs of midwifery care. And she launched it with none other than tennis legend Serena Williams.
Elaine and Avery chatted about how her own birthing experience inspired her to start birthFUND, how to advocate for yourself when pregnant, and how she brings big ideas to life.

Learn more about birthFUND at thebirthfund.com and @birthfund on Instagram, and follow Elaine at @elainewelteroth.

"You're not being as intellectually stimulated as you think you are if everyone around you is saying the same thing." These are the kinds of truth-telling one-liners Africa Brooke is known for.
She is an author, consultant, strategist and international speaker with a unique focus: tackling self-sabotage and self-censorship. In her new book, The Third Perspective, coming out on May 14, Africa invites us to return to critical thinking and reduce the pressure we all feel to share our thoughts publicly on social media (where not having the "right" opinion can have damaging consequences).
In this episode, Avery and Africa talk about self-censorship, how to communicate more bravely and the power in changing your mind out loud.
