The daily routine of a person with diabetes is anything but ordinary. I'm still learning new things about it every day. Most people with diabetes go to great lengths to keep their blood sugar levels under control. Let's be real: diabetes is no joke. It can be a pain to manage daily, especially when you're juggling work and social life. But it's also something that we have to deal with and learn to live with. Spoiler alert: it's not all doom and gloom! Sure, there are some challenges to managing the condition, but I've also learned how to work around them and make the most of my situation. Diabetes is just one part of who I am. But for funsies, here's a peek into my day-to-day with diabetes.

Food Police, Shame, and Diabetes. What if we stopped shaming people for how they manage their diabetes? It seems like everyone is worried about my diabetes. But why? What's the big deal? Lots of people with diabetes feel like they're under a microscope. But why should we have to explain ourselves? There's a lot of debate around what the "right" way to manage diabetes is, but at the end of the day, it's up to each individual to find what works best for them. My guest Mila Clarke drops some knowledge on the misconceptions, guilt and shame that comes with living with diabetes, especially as an influencer. It's clear that we need to stop judging and shaming each other, and start supporting one another instead.Do you feel like everyone is always watching how you live your life with diabetes?

I'm having a lot of trouble with this question. I've been sharing what type of diabetes I have for years now, and it's been really helpful to me to see that people are willing to share their experiences. But there's still a divide because of the stigma that comes with living with type 2.
So I'm wondering, is it really necessary? Of course aside from medical staff and employers but do we need to always indicate what type of diabetes we have all the time?
Let's talk about it.

There is a stigma attached to type 2 diabetes.
A stigma of shame. A guilt and embarrassment. It can make us feel like we're broken or defective in some way. We might even start blaming ourselves for our circumstances...or worse yet think that it's our fault that other people are so unkind to us.
The truth is: there are many reasons why type 2 diabetes has become stigmatized-and fighting back isn't easy. I chat with Dex Geralds to get his take on changing the narrative about those living with type 2 diabetes.

There are a lot of misconceptions and misinformation about type 2 diabetes. And there are also a lot of outdated beliefs that we just don't question anymore. I explore possible medical bias when it comes to type 2 diabetes and how we treat people who have it.

What if you are living with a chronic illness and it's making everything else in your life difficult? How can we put ourselves first when there is so much to do, such as taking care of our families, going to school or work? In this episode, I chat with health coach and fellow podcaster Lissie Poyner who has diabetes and Crohn's. She shares her journey of balancing the demands on her time and how she learned that putting herself first was not selfish but necessary for her health. She now coaches others living with diabetes on how to do the same.

Now, Lissie helps overwhelmed type one diabetics gain more predictability in their blood sugars so they can finally take their plans off hold and welcome new life experiences. Do you have diabetes? Are you a person of color? If you answered yes to both of those questions, then there's a good chance that you don't see yourself reflected in mainstream diabetes conversations and resources. When my blood sugar drops I have a really hard time controlling my eating.
For many living with diabetes this is common. Some of us, myself included, will also over eat to try to prevent low blood sugar later on.
I talk about how low blood sugar can trigger me to binge eat- even though I'm not actually hungry. It's been helpful for me to understand that feeling low blood sugar is just as much of an emotional experience as it is physical. I share insights on how the fear of low blood sugar affects the diabetes community thanks to my friends at dQ&A.
Low blood sugar can be scary but if we take half a second to slow down while we're treating we can prevent over eating.

With type 2 diabetes being so stigmatized, it can be difficult to find other people to connect with. The main reason why I started this show and my company is because I saw a gap in representation and community for those living with type 2 diabetes. Being diagnosed with it often comes with a lot of guilt and shame. It makes it hard for people to be open about their condition and share their experiences to others.
That's where the Beyond Type 2 community comes it. It is a safe space to share your stories, tips, or anything else you can think of with those that understand to a degree what you're going through. I sit down with Beyond Type 2's Senior Community Manager T'ara to talk more about how it came to be.

Life with diabetes can be overwhelming. Sometime it feels like you have no control over your body. Add to that everyone has an opinion on how you should manage it. Especially when it comes to what you eat. As someone who grew up with southern cooking AND Thai cooking, the idea of letting go of my cultural favorites is heartbreaking. Many people across the world experience the same.
But what if there is a way to enjoy your cultural foods and still manage your blood sugar? That's where Dione comes in. As someone who has lived with pre-diabetes previously and is a registered dietician, she asked herself, "there has to be a better way right?"
I sit down with Dione to learn how she's helping so many people become Blood Sugar Bosses and you can be too!

Sugar has taken over the world. It's literally been compared to being just as addictive as hard drugs. So how do we combat the impact of sugar yet still feel like we can enjoy it in moderation?
That's where Scarlett comes in. As the Co-founder and CEO of Sugar Break, her team has worked hard to create a lineup of products that help reduce the amount of sugar you absorb, promote stable blood sugar, or curb that sweet craving.
I had an amazing chat with Scarlett and she was gracious enough to offer all listeners a discount for trying Sugar Break. Use code TAYLOR15 at checkout and tell us what you think!

I've been living with diabetes for over 6 years.
Diabetes Burnout is a real thing. There are many symptoms of diabetes burnout but it can mean different things for each person. I share my personal story about my battle with burnout and how it affects the community as well. For me sometimes it's the CGM alarms or trying to eat enough. Or sometimes it's the diabetes community itself.
It get spicy in this one!

For many people eating low carb has change their life. But for others the low carb options available don't provide the same quality taste vs when they have the original.
That's where Amazing Lokarb comes in. Inspired by different cultural cuisines from his world travels, Founder and CEO Danny, took on the challenge of making low carb pastas, noodles, and rice without the noticeable difference in taste that most other brands haven't quite gotten down yet.
