  • That we are the "bride of Christ", this thought can get us confused and uneasy, as in "why would He want to have anything to do with me?" Chad once again meditates on these encouraging scriptures. When we are in trouble, we cling to God's love. As this episode is being uploaded, our beloved Lutheran brother Kris Lewis lies in a coma in California after suffering a severe stroke. If our faith left out the glorious love of the Bridegrrom, the lover of our soul, we would give in to despair. But no, we are loved now and into eternity, and loved so deeply that God would call us His bride. We cannot lose, when are hope is in Christ. The talented Marvelle Figueroa sings "My Perfect One".

    Song of Songs (Ch 6:1-10)

    Lyrics to "My Perfect One"

“Who is this who looks down like the dawn,

Glorious beauty, as the moon, bright as the sun,

My perfect one, in love divine
Turn away your eyes, for they overwhelm me—

Your eyes are formidable, like an army

My perfect one, and I am Your bride

    Chorus:

Together, together in the garden of love

Our eyes meet together, but I want to run

Turn away, You are too beautiful

Look away, I am not worthy

But You are my Savior, and I am Your bride

You ask me where my Beloved has gone,
Would he hide his face away

My perfect one, in love divine

My beloved has gone down to his garden
and there he will gaze into my eyes
My perfect one, and I am Your bride

    Chorus:

Together, together in the garden of love

Our eyes meet together in the garden of love

Turn away, You are too beautiful

Look away, I am not worthy

But You are my Savior, and I am Your bride

Lyrics to "One Night As I Lay Sleeping"

One night as I was sleeping

My heart awakened, in a dream

On my, door my love was knocking

    Saying open my beloved

Swing open wide the door to me

But I felt naked, and ashamed

    So I waited…

    For a better time

    I waited…

    For a better way

    And the waiting

    Was my undoing

    My great loss

    In my heart

    Rain will fall

    In my heart

    Dark clouds gather

But You hold the key to open the door

I fall in your arms, to praise and adore

    My Lord and my lover

    My God and my Savior

    Lovers forever

    Lovers forever

    Amen

All the things that haunt me

All the empty spaces, I tried to fill

    only your love can redeem

By your mercy, by your grace

    United in paradise

    My redemption

    By your sacrifice

    But I waited…

    For a better time

    I waited…

    For a better way

    And the waiting

    Was my undoing

    My great loss

Won’t you tell, tell my beloved

    I am sick with love

    Tell my beloved

    That I’m sorry

    Tell my beloved

    My soul failed

    My ways failed

    And its my great loss

  • We live in a world that has so grossly perverted the idea of love, so its easy to avoid thinking about God's love for us, because that could be a little gross and uncomfortable. Thankfully scripture gives us beautiful readings on love, and Chapter 4 of Song of Songs is a great love poem. Chad meditates and encourages us all, and Chris Lizotte and Jamie Eichler sing "Come to the Garden, My Beloved"

This is Caleb Keith, director of the 1517 Podcast Network. Today, as many of you may know, is Giving Tuesday. On this special day, I have a question for you: Does this podcast bring Jesus and His Gospel of peace into your life on a regular basis? At 1517, our mission—and the mission of the 1517 Podcast Network—is to declare and defend the Good News that we are forgiven and free through the death and resurrection of Christ alone. Because of Jesus, God has made peace with you and continues to actively give you His peace. You can give by visiting 1517.org or by following the link in the show notes.

  • Chad meditates on the salvation story found here in Chronicles 16. We are blessed beyond belief, for eternity. God brings everything together in His perfect time, and we can become dismayed when our timetables don't line up. Still He knows what is best and His mysterious ways bless us for eternity. Lyrics to "A Millionfold"

    You are faithful

    For a thousand generations

    To a covenant You made

    With Abraham, Isaac and Jacob

    Our inheritance was paid

With no strength in our hands

We travel a cross the sands

    With Your protection

    Wandering the desert

Our only hope is Your direction

    A millionfold

A thousand times a thousand souls

    Undeserving, here we stand

    upon this land

    Because of Your love

    Because of Your faithful word

    Oh Jesus

    We give glory and thanks

    Unto Your name forever

    Unto Your name forever

    You guard Your beloved

    With Your outstretched arm

You say “Don’t touch my anointed ones,

    do my prophets no harm!”

    In the lonely desert places

    You multiply Your grace

And You feed us at Your banquet

Spread out a table in this place

    A millionfold

A thousand times a thousand souls

    Undeserving, upon this land

    Here we stand

    Because of Your love

    Because of Your faithful word

    As beloved children

    We give You thanks

    Unto Your name forever

    Unto Your name forever

    Lyrics to "Tied Down"

    When I was a child

I ran after things I cherished

    Things I desired

    Led to my soul despairing

When I was lost in my own little town

    You sought me

    You found me

You came to me, when I was tied down

    Chorus:

    I was tied down

    By my own hands

    Charms had their way

    I was enslaved

    I was tied down

    You untangled me

    To Your great name

Glory and honor Lord for eternity

    To Your great name

Glory and honor Lord for eternity

Your yoke is easy your burden is light

You Opened my eyes then You gave me sight

When I was lost in my own little town

    You sought me

    You found me

You came to me, when I was tied down

And I will sing your praise

In my heart I’ll give you thanks

In my heart I seek your presence

And I live in Your love and grace

    Under Your mercy

    Under Your mercy

  • A great recounting of the mercies of God throughout the journey on earth. Izzi Ray sings "Honor and Glory".

    Lyrics to "Honor and Glory"

You turned the sea to dry land

So we could cross the river

    delivered us by your hand

    And we rejoiced together

So we give thanks through all the earth

For You alone command the waters

And You have heard my desperate prayers

For You alone save Your sons and daughters

    Chorus:

    Honor and glory

    From every nation

    Every generation

    Is Yours O God

    This day of blessing

    Hearts now confessing

Your saving power and glorious work

    Forever and ever, Amen.

You O God have tested us

You trapped us in your net

Laid heavy burdens on our backs

Let men trample on our heads

But then You brought us to your house

    You refined us like silver

You brought us into freedom land

    Through the fire and water

    Bridge:

Your Cross covers the whole earth

    And points to everyone everywhere

    From one man

    One crucifixion

    One resurrection

    One life for everyone

  • This scripture passage is so interesting and complex. A real cautionary tale. Chad sorts it all out for us, pointing us to Christ and His forgiveness, and warning us to resist taking matters of retribution into our own hands.

Lyrics to "For Want of Forgiveness"

Let me go, and leave my heart of stone

    I’ll walk away

    From getting even

For the times I was betrayed

    And thought revenge

    My only solution

    Sunlight

    flooding into darkness

You hold me up, and I’m letting go

    Jesus, walking on the water

You come for me, and I’m letting go

    Chorus:

    But Abner;

    Your hands were not bound;
    your feet were not fettered;

    No man showed you mercy

    Forgiving his debtor
as one falls before the wicked
    you have fallen.”

    For want of forgiveness

Deliver me from seeking my revenge

    At the shrine of retribution

And I trust that Lord You have forgiven me

    And I received Your absolution

    Sunlight

    flooding into darkness

You hold me up, so I’m letting go

    Jesus, walking on the water

You come for me, and I’m letting go

    Chorus:

    But Abner;

    Your hands were not bound;
    your feet were not fettered;

    None showed you mercy

    You were the debtor
as one falls before the wicked
    you have fallen.”

    For want of forgiveness

Don’t want to live a lie

    Empty and alone

    For want of forgiveness

    A fool without friends

    Take my heart of stone

    I have been forgiven
