The frontrunners continued their dominance, as well, with UNLV putting up a 50 burger on Utah State, and Boise State cruising to a 21 point win over Hawaii, courtesy of another 200+ yard performance from Heisman favorite Ashton Jeanty. We’ll break down all of the week six action, and we’ll end the show with our game of the week, with UNLV traveling to Corvallis to take on Oregon State! Big time episode this week, so let’s dive in!

  • Welcome back everyone to the Hike’s Peak podcast, thank you for coming back to the mountain! Finally, we have a week without realignment news, so we can focus on football for the whole episode! UNLV lost a heartbreaker to Syracuse in overtime, potentially putting their College Football Playoff hopes on ice. Colorado State had a similar fate, falling just short of an upset of Oregon State in double OT. We’ll break both of those losses down, and then we’ll dive into Ashton Jeanty’s latest masterclass, running for another 160 yards and 3 scores in one half of play against Utah State. I’ve pulled some ridiculous stats about his start to the season, along with an update on his Heisman campaign. Then, we’ll end the show by going over our game of the week, with Fresno State hosting Washington State. Lots of stops to make today, so let’s dive in!

  • Welcome back to the mountain! After a very stressful two weeks, the Mountain West has officially survived to see another day. UNLV announced they are staying in the conference, paving the way for the remaining seven members to sign a new bill of rights. We’ll talk about the financial reasoning behind UNLV staying home, as well as introduce the newest Mountain West school in UTEP! That wasn’t it for this week’s Vegas drama, oh no, far from it, with the Rebels starting QB Matthew Sluka stunningly announcing he was done for the season and redshirting due to not being paid his NIL wages. We’ll dive into the available information to figure out what the heck happened, who’s to blame, and what’s next for him and UNLV. As for the football talk this week, we got some time for that too, with UNLV and their new starting QB demolishing Fresno State to get their first AP ranking ever. Not to be outdone, Boise State got a statement win against Washington State, led by Ashton Jeanty, who has not only played his way into the Heisman race, but is on pace for maybe the greatest single season in the history of college football. We’ll end the show with a preview of our game of the week, with UNLV taking on Syracuse in Allegiant Stadium. Huge show this week, as always, so enjoy and bring a notepad!

  • Welcome back to the mountain! Week two of the realignment wars had more twists and turns than a condemned roller coaster. To summarize, the Mountain West was 15 minutes away from safety, but Utah State’s departure for the PAC 12 leaves the future of the whole conference in jeopardy. We’ll break down all of yesterday’s craziness, why those decisions were made, where the Mountain West went wrong, and how they can survive. Oh yeah, football is still played weekly! San Jose State fell just short of an upset, losing 54-52 in double OT to Washington State, but they still did more than enough to show that the Spartans are legit! Wyoming and Utah State’s woes continued, as both Jay Sawvel and Nate Dreilling are struggling to reach their program’s status quo. We’ll end the show with previews of two mammoth Week 5 matchups, with Boise State hosting undefeated Washington State and UNLV aiming to take revenge on Fresno State.
