Many of you will remember the article that went viral earlier this year detailing the everyday 'petty tortures' inflicted on NHS doctors. Dr Jo Poole, an anaesthetic trainee, recounted her experiences of being treated poorly in a blogpost that went gained traction and then went on to form that article. After she shared her blog, she received hundreds of stories from junior doctors with a wide variety of horrific experiences.
These included not being able to visit dying relatives, having to work after receiving cancer diagnoses during work & not being able to guarantee time off for your own wedding. She put these case studies together in a shocking (but relatable) dossier & has since worked with NHS stakeholders to improve the wellbeing of doctors.
Listen to Dr Amile & Dr Suba sit with Jo as they discuss her story and the direction we need to go in to supporting our nations young doctors.

In this episode, Amile sits down with the accomplished (and very cool) Dr Seema Yasmin. She grew up in East London, studied Medicine at Cambridge and has since found herself working across the world in various capacities.
Though a doctor by name, she is a storyteller by nature. Her CV reads like no other. She worked as a CDC Epidemiologist during the Ebola Crisis, a News Anchor in the USA & a University Professor. She has done TED talks, written books, poetry & cares about social justice. In her most recently published book 'The Impatient Dr Lange' she details the life of her brilliantly eccentric mentor whose life was sadly cut short in the tragic MH17 plane crash.
We learn how stories can offer solutions & why we must see our heroes as imperfect. Tune in. You won't be dissappointed!
Connect with her on Instagram and Twitter. Also check out her books, The Impatient Dr Lange (out now) & Debunked! (to be released in 2019). Her poetry and Ted Talks can also be found online.

In this episode, we sit down with our friend Dr Maya Zosmer. Despite having doctor parents, her path to medicine was anything but straightforward. She started out in Architecture before the pull to medical school took its hold on her again. During her time as a doctor, she has found her passion in caring for some of our most vulnerable patients both here and abroad. From working in elderly care to carrying out projects to support the homeless, she has sought ways to affect meaningful change in these environments. At the end of the episode, we share some emotionally striking excerpts from her blog, Beyond The Bedside. Please also make sure to listen to the end of the epsiode to hear Amile's favourite song from Maya's band Pocket Satellite.

We planned this episode, but completely went astray from our outline! The internet has completely changed the health game. We can access services more easily and more affordably. We also have information at our fingertips. Patients have become more empowered & doctors have become better communicators. In this episode, we look at the communities whose health and experiences have been positively impacted by the internet. We look at the usefulness of mobile phone apps & social media for our patients. We do however look at when Dr Google and marketers can become damaging in this space.
