  • This episode was based on the following micro blog Megan wrote recently. It sparked some interest, so she decided to make it a quick solo show!

    Networking working.

When I googled the definition of networking, the following came up: "the action or process of interacting with others to exchange information and develop professional or social contacts." And then when I looked on Dictionary.com, it said this: "a supportive system of sharing information and services among individuals and groups having a common interest."

I think the second definition is closer to the mark. Perhaps it still doesn't fully get there (for me) because it doesn't include the words consistently or regularly. Maybe in my brain it should also include - then what? But perhaps that is another word. What's a word for what you do after you have made those contacts? Working your network... Communication? Relationship-building?

You see, I think if we have regularly or consistently continued to "work our network" or kept up with people, then folks are top of mind when opportunities come about.

This week I (almost) simultaneously got a reach-out from a former colleague to catch-up and a message from a friend who has been looking for a job for a bit. The former colleague had a potential advisory/consulting opportunity for me... and my job-seeking friend was reminding me she was still out there looking.

The timing of this caused me to look and see if the colleague's company had any job openings that might work for the job-seeker, and they did. Bingo! Now, I'm not saying that means this will be a perfect match and she will get hired, but we wouldn't know if I hadn't looked.

Perhaps there is some serendipity involved here, but my point is that keeping in touch with former colleagues is a great idea - and not just when you need something. The more we stay top-of-mind, the more potential we have to help others and ourselves.

Keep building those relationships by the random reach-out, by commenting on their posts, sharing their content... and always keep an open mind about how we can help each other! Work that network.

And... This one hurts for one of our hosts. Having to produce episodes where we talked so much about football... when your team has lost (with seconds left in overtime)... is a little painful!

It's a bonus episode where Jen and Megan not only talk about the BIG game (revisit of this 4 years ago), but we also compared the social media accounts of the 49ers and the Chiefs! Taylor's boyfriend has influenced those Chiefs numbers a smidge...

Both teams have great social media presence! We will both fight another day.

  • Short-form video is all the rage! On this episode we talk with a Meta Ads expert who is using short videos to teach.

The enemy of done is perfection and that is one of our biggest takeaways from our chat with John Loomer -- just start.

    Learn about...

    - The importance of getting started and not overthinking: John emphasizes the key to creating effective short-form video content is to simply get started without worrying too much about perfection. The goal is to learn and improve with each video, so it's essential to not overthink the process and just start creating.

    - Consistency and long-term trust are crucial: Consistency is super important with short-form video content. Focus on your brand's messaging and create content your ideal audience will find interesting. Building long-term trust with your audience should be more important than chasing short-term gains.

    - Find the right tools and workflow for you: John uses the editing software ScreenFlow for creating short-form videos.
