  • Iā€™m not a poet. Iā€™ve never taken a poetry class or really studied it much at all. (That said, I do have a small poetic claim to fame: I once had a haiku about coffee published in the Heartland Society of Women Writers. So, technically, Iā€™m a published poet!) But poetry isnā€™t something I consider a regular part of my creative repertoire.

Still, Iā€™ve always been intrigued by it. Thereā€™s something so powerful about capturing a thought, a feeling, or a moment in just a few words. And as a busy mom, I love the idea of expressing creativity in a way that doesnā€™t take a lot of time. Thatā€™s why I decided to dedicate todayā€™s episode to something I think youā€™ll find inspiring and accessible: one-liner poetry. Even if youā€™ve never written a poem in your life, this might just spark a creative interest you didnā€™t know you had.

  • I guarantee you donā€™t remember what you got for Christmas when you were like.. 6 years old. But I bet you have some strong memories of baking cookies or going to see the Nutcracker that year. Sketch a memory, take the picture at a new angle, write a poem about how the Christmas cookies smell. These things are what make life beautiful.

Let's quickly talk about capturing memories.

  • It's been 3 years since I last had Jenny on the podcast!

Jenny Mouse is a mom of three from Ontario Canada. She had a hard time focusing on school and assignments when she was young and found learning about the brain very helpful. She wrote her first book Brian the Brain Head Space when she struggled to find high quality material about the brain for young kids. She believes that teaching children about their brain from an early age can help them reach their full potential.

  • When was the last time you tried something new in your creative life? And I donā€™t mean just switching up your routine or tweaking something you already do. I mean trying something totally different. A medium youā€™ve never touched, a style thatā€™s not ā€œyou,ā€ or even just a bold, scary idea that youā€™re not sure you can pull off.

If itā€™s been a whileā€”or if the thought makes you feel nervousā€”you are not alone. Comfort zones feel... well, comfortable! Theyā€™re our safe spaces. And honestly, thereā€™s nothing wrong with leaning into what youā€™re good at and what you love. But staying there too long can leave you feeling stuck or uninspired. Thatā€™s why today, weā€™re diving into why stepping outside your creative bubble is so important and how you can do it without feeling overwhelmed.

  • After 17 years as a stay-at-home mom, Laura Rittman felt a bit lost when her daughter went off to college. Her husband reminded her of her dream to write a childrenā€™s book, and here she is, getting ready to launch Lucky Ruby! With a background in PR and event planning, sheā€™s excited to be on this new path as an author.

In this episode, Iā€™m chatting with the debut author of Lucky Ruby, a childrenā€™s book all about celebrating both Hanukkah and Christmas. The story follows Ruby, a little girl with both traditions, and her classmate Violet, who finds it a bit strange at firstā€”but then realizes just how lucky Ruby is. Inspired by her own life with her Christian-Jewish family, the author hopes this book will help kids learn to appreciate and respect different family traditions and see that, at the heart of it all, itā€™s about family and love.

Join us as we talk about her journey with Lucky Ruby, the beauty of blending traditions, and finding new purpose in this next chapter of life.

  • How far are you into your 50k words? Let's talk about how we can KEEP GOING!

Itā€™s that time of year again. And no, Iā€™m not talking about the holidays, Iā€™m talking about something very special that happens in November. Iā€™ve attempted it myself yearly since 2019. And that goal is writing 50k words. In 30 days. And before you freak out too much, itā€™s not the finished, polished novel that youā€™re going to have done by the end of the month, rather just ugly, beautiful first draft. Novellas can range between 17-40k words, a lot of cozy mysteries I read are also in the 50k range, and if youā€™re writing a historical fiction or fantasy especially, you can be upwards of 150k words. But to set some sort of parameters for this, 50k is the goal.

  • More proof that you can be a mom and do ALL the things!

"Genevieve LeDoux is an Emmy-winning producer and a true visionary in the world of content creation. Sheā€™s worked with big names like Mattel, Hasbro, WildBrain, Amazon, and Disney, and her creative touch has brought to life some of the most beloved kidsā€™ shows like Tumbleleaf, Baby Einstein, Yo Gabba Gabba, and Barbie. Her background in performing and managing bands, along with watching how her own kids discovered music, led her to notice a gap between preschool music and whatā€™s available for adults. That inspired her to make music a core part of the amazing content she creates.

Genevieve has a special gift for blending whimsy with meaningful stories that connect with people of all ages. Sheā€™s the creative mind behind Star Forest, an exciting world where music and imagination come together, and this project is all about her belief in the power of dreams and the magic of imagination.

Outside of her work, Genevieve loves spending time with her family, collaborating on projects with her husband Chris, a talented VFX artist, and finding inspiration in her kids. From playing in the backyard creek to family road trips, she believes in staying connected to her inner child, and it shows in everything she does.

Sheā€™s also a huge advocate for Georgiaā€™s creative economy and is deeply involved in building up local talent. Her production company, Silver Comet Productions, works with some of Georgiaā€™s best artists and thinkers. Genevieve also serves on the Board of Film Impact Georgia and is a member of WIFT, the Television Academy, and the Creatorsā€™ Society.

Her passion for storytelling and creativity drives everything she does, and her goal is to create experiences that entertain, inspire, and uplift audiences everywhere."

A new Star Forest album, Let Me Be Real will be released on September 26, 2024.

  • You know what Iā€™m talking aboutā€”the projects that got set aside when the demands of motherhood took over, and now theyā€™re just waiting, maybe even gathering a little dust, for us to find the time to get back to them.

Iā€™m calling this episode ā€œReviving Old Projects: How to Rekindle Your Passion for Past Ideas.ā€ Because letā€™s face it, as moms, our creative energy often gets put on the back burner. But today, weā€™re going to talk about how to reignite that spark and turn those unfinished projects into something that brings you joy and fulfillment.

So grab your coffeeā€”or letā€™s be real, that cold cup thatā€™s been sitting out all morningā€”and letā€™s chat about how to breathe new life into those creative endeavors.
