Who could go to Europe and not drink wine?! It is something that seemed impossible to me years ago when I started considering sobriety. Now, after almost 3 years sober, I can't believe that silly thought stopped me so many times.
I recently visited Italy with my husband, and I'm happy to report that Italy is just as amazing, if not better, while sober.
On today's episode I break down what a sober trip to Italy looked like for me. I'll give you a hint: it was beautiful, adventurous, care-free, and a memory I will *clearly* remember for the rest of my life. It's amazing how much you can experience when you aren't hungover!
If you're sober curious, I hope today's episode encourages you to take the leap of faith and just DO IT! You can do it and you will be so glad that you did.

*If you haven't already, I encourage you to listen to â â Part 1 of our Six Human Needs Episodesâ â before diving into this one.
Today's episode is a deeper dive on the fifth & sixth human needs: Growth & Contribution. Everything in existence is either growing or dying. Humans need growth in every capacity: spiritually, intellectually, physically, and emotionally. Development in all four areas is key to a healthy life. And contribution is the act of looking beyond oneself, going beyond one's own needs, and giving to others with no hopes for or expected personal gain. It's contributing to other people, a cause, or to a movement. It's a way to leave a legacy, a mark on the world, to make a difference.
Join me as I discuss the positive and negative ways I fulfill my need for growth & contribution as a mother of 3. I hope this brings perspective to the way this need is (or is not) being filled in your life.

Today's episode is a deeper dive on the fourth human need: Love & Connection. We all hope and strive for love - to give and to receive. All humans need to feel connected with themselves and others with whom we can share our love. We all know you're giving, giving, giving love to your children every single day. But are you giving that same love to yourself? Are you receiving it from others?
Join me as I discuss the positive and negative ways I fulfill my need for love & connection as a mother of 3. I hope this brings perspective to the way this need is (or is not) being filled in your life.

Today's episode is a deeper dive on the third human need: Significance. This is our need to feel special, significant, or important to another person or group of people. Often times in motherhood we are pouring everything we have into everyone else (without recognition). It's easy to lose your sense of self in the trenches of motherhood, but I'm here to tell you that it is possible (and SO important) to find significance not just as a mother, but as a woman too.
Join me as I discuss the positive and negative ways I fulfill my need for significance as a mother of 3. I hope this brings perspective to the way this need is (or is not) being filled in your life.

Today's episode is a deeper dive on the second human need: Variety. We all want and need variety in our lives. It's all about going outside your comfort zoneand trying something new and different. And let's be honest, in the depths of motherhood the repetition of daily tasks doesn't give us the variety we need.
Join me as I discuss the positive and negative ways I fulfill my need for variety as a mother of 3. I hope this brings perspective to the way this need is (or is not) being filled in your life.

Today's episode is a deeper dive on the first human need: Certainty. Certainty is the desire to feel safe, to be comfortable in your environment, and to experience pleasure while avoiding pain. With a great amount of certainty, you feel stable, grounded, protected, secure, and can predict certain necessary safeguards in your life.
Join me as I discuss the positive and negative ways I fulfill my need for certainty as a mother of 3. I hope this brings perspective to the way this need is (or is not) being filled in your life.

Welcome to the Truth Be Told Series, where Motherload contributors Lauren & Kayla, and I will be discussing anonymous truths of motherhood, submitted by our listeners. You know, those things that we're all thinking, but nobody is saying? Today's episode covers the question that so many stay at home moms dread: "What do you do?" It's not because we don't love spending this time with our children...of course we do! We know it's a privilege to be able to choose, but it's hard to find words to express what we actually "do" on a daily basis, and it often feels less exciting than those who are able to talk about their careers and accomplishments. We discuss what comes up when we're asked this question, how we respond, how people respond to us, and all the unspoken thoughts and candor that surround it.
All this and more and today's episode of The Motherload.

If you have ever felt unfulfilled on your mothering journey, and then guilt ensued...this episode is for you. Today I am talking about our Six Human Needs. When I first learned about them, it was a huge lightbulb moment for me. Knowing the human needs allowed me to understand the things that were missing in my everyday SAHM life. It allowed me to see precisely why I was feeling like I needed more....I DID! Human needs are just that...for all humans. It's not the needs of an ungrateful mom, or the needs of the mom who wants too much! This is neither good or bad, it just IS.
The 6 needs are:
Certainty
Uncertainty/Variety
Significance
Connection and Love
Growth
Contribution
To be fulfilled we must consistently meet these six human needs. I don't know about you, but I'm like...all 6? Consistently?...in healthy ways?! So much to dig in and learn here.

On this episode, I spoke with Dr. Sue about my journey into motherhood. I use the analogy of a firefighter momma, in hopes that it will help you to identify your own nervous system fatigue.
Imagine this, youâre a firefighter and youâve been called to put out a fire. There are lives on the line, and you know and feel how important your job is on every levelâŠBUT youâre the only firefighter and you havenât been trained yet. Your heart and mind are racing to try to figure out how best to do this job! Youâve seen someone put a fire out before, so you figure youâll try it that wayâŠbut the flames are getting bigger and bigger and itâs not workingâŠthis is YOU momma. Trying so hard to be what you want to be as a mother (a firefighter). You're giving it your all, day after day, by yourself, and sometimes without any sign of progressâŠ.
Maybe you will see yourself in this episode, and realize that your stress and anxiety are natural effects from this all encompassing and most important role. You will feel the validation you need to know that you are doing an AMAZING job today, and everyday. Maybe it will get your mind going in a direction of âwhat tiny step can I take today, to support this amazing firefighter momma.â

Today on The Motherload Podcast I talk to my friend Caitlin Shirock. She is a mother, wife, artist, and the owner of Cash Color. We both give real life examples of how fear comes up in our everyday lives, and how we work through it. Caitlin outlines small obtainable steps for any mother looking to step into her passion or calling. We discuss big ideas like redefining what success looks like for YOU in YOUR life! Getting to know yourself first and foremost as the guiding light to your fulfilled future. This episode is about small steps, individuality, and the complexity of developing and finding these things while being a mother.

How did you chose your child's pediatrician? Was it based on aligned values? A likeminded approach to wellness and overall health? If your anything like me, it was nothing of the sort. I pointed to a random name on a long list, as I lay in the hospital bed after the birth of my first daughter. "Yup, that one will do"!
It wasn't until my needs weren't being met, and questions I had weren't getting the answers I desired, that I had to seek out something different. Insert Dr. Sue.
Today we are talking to mother of three, pediatric physician; Dr. Sue McCreadie.
She is a pillar of health and wellness herself, with two decades of knowledge and experience. She radiates joy, love and energy. Let's ask all the questions, so that we mothers and our children can do the same!

The word PERFECT. What does that bring up for you when you hear it? Does it make you want to push it away? Do you imagine something beautiful, or done just so?Maybe it makes you get antsy and anxious inside. My immediate reaction to the word is; it doesn’t exist. I don’t aspire for perfection, nor do I want it for my children…YET it has plagued me.It has been a part of my thinking for a very long time. No one ever told me I had to be perfect in any way.Actually, I think they might have even told me the opposite.Yet I received a lot of messaging about it growing up.The better the grades, the more A’s; the greater the reward and recognition. The better I performed or did anything really well, the chance of being made fun on by my peers, was much less. The better I looked, the more positive reinforcement I got. The more you can do anything well (aka PERFECT) the better off you are. This messaging mixed with my genetic pre-disposition, let me to a crippling place. A place where doing things got hard…the big things? Even harder and impossible at times. Today I’m diving into my own experience with perfectionist thinking. If you have experienced some of the same, I hope that by listening you might feel less alone, inspired to dig in and maybe learn more about it. Maybe you could start to practice new thoughts and behaviors, and go about your way on a more authentic path of ease and connection.
