oneLife Maps is, at its core, interested in helping people to recognize and respond to God in their stories. There is so much to be said on the topic of life story as a spiritual practice that we recorded a second episode on the topic that moves in a different direction. I hope you enjoy this one, too.
If you have engaged in 'Listen to My Life: Maps for Recognizing and Responding to God in My Story' visual life mapping, you'll see that this conversation relates directly to the bottom line on the 'My Life Story' map, where you are asked to consider how you have noticed God, or viewed who God is over the course of your life. This conversation is a great way to help you sort out what stories you have been handed about who you are and who God is -- and prayerfully decide what to take with you, and what to leave behind.

Host, Sharon Swing, welcomes Keith Anderson to the podcast to discuss his book:
Reading Your Life’s Story: An Invitation to Spiritual Mentoring:
Spiritual mentoring is a particular kind of friendship in which, according to Keith R. Anderson, "two or more people walk together in heightened awareness of the presence of yet Another"―the Holy Spirit. "Spiritual mentoring is not a complicated process that requires technical training and complex protocol," Anderson continues. "It is essential, authentic, and maybe even natural human speech that is focused, disciplined and nurtured by training for one of the hardest natural things we do: listening reflectively to another. It is sacred companionship as life is lived and story told. Available to almost all, it requires deliberate recruitment, preparation and practice." These pages unfold a vision for mentoring that invites us to read our own lives as narrative and to learn how to enter the narrative of another life. The book covers the scope of the mentoring relationship through various seasons, offering helpful and inspiring metaphors for mentoring. All are invited to enter the mentoring story.
oneLife Maps is, at its core, interested in helping people to recognize and respond to God in their stories. The seven lies Darrell talks about invitations to consider how a few shifts in perspective on how we think about God and faith effect our ways of being in the world. You don't have to agree with everything he says to appreciate the deep thinking that has led Darrell and others to a healthy spirituality that prioritizes love as its highest value.

When we gather people for a workshop or a class, we often ask people to participate in a 'one-word checkin' to help people connect with themselves and others. It helps us become more self-aware, God-aware, and other-aware. You may want to use it by yourself, with or around the dining room table sometime soon!

I love Steve Carter. He's a great conversationalist and a good human being. Listen in as Steve and I (Sharon Swing) talk about spiritual formation and life story. He gave plenty of sermons that included encouraging people to dive into their own life stories while he was preaching at Willow Creek Community Church while I was there. I cheered him on from the cheap seats. Life took quite a turn for Steve and his family a few years back that left him searching for next steps in immediate fashion. He heard the Spirit whisper to his soul, 'Go to the desert and wait for instruction.' Little did he know his wife had been longing for a nudge in that direction.
Steve is now an itinerate teacher at many churches -- sometimes multiple churches on a weekend now that church is virtual. He equips teaching pastors from around the globe.
Find out more about Steve Carter at: https://www.stevecarter.org and listen to his new podcast, https://www.hometeampodcast.com.

Are you responsible TO others or responsible FOR them? It's a very useful distinction for all of our relationships. It may keep you out of trouble, improve your relationships, and put words to why having kids grow up messes with us as parents! We have used this important piece of work from the book, 'Listen For Heaven's Sake' in many of our 'Listen to My Life' workshops as we teach listening skills and explore why some of our relationships need a tune up, and help us name why we take more on than we need to, or get frustrated when others seem to want to control us.
We highly recommend this important infographic. You can download it here: https://onelifemaps.lpages.co/lead-magnet-responsible-to-responsible-for-request-form

Sibyl Towner and Joan Kelley join Sharon Swing to discuss Mama Maggie Gobran's wisdom on silence.
“I learned that silence is the secret.
Silence your body - to listen to your words.
Silence your tongue - to listen to your thoughts.
Silence your thoughts - to listen to your heart.
Silence your heart - to listen to your spirit.
Silence your spirit - to listen to his spirit.”
MAMA MAGGIE GOBRAN, Founder and CEO, Stephen’s Children Ministry
