The origins of the Sicilian Mob, has its roots in a rather unexpected field....Lemons. In the mid to late 19th century, the citrus trade on the island of Sicily was booming. The citrus farmers faced theft, price gouging and minimal support from the government. This was prime conditions for someone to step in and offer protection to the citrus industry...of course at a price!
