    When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. So he began teaching them many things.

    By this time it was late in the day, so his disciples came to him. β€œThis is a remote place,” they said, β€œand it’s already very late. Send the people away so that they can go to the surrounding countryside and villages and buy themselves something to eat.”

    But he answered, β€œYou give them something to eat.”

    They said to him, β€œThat would take more than half a year’s wages! Are we to go and spend that much on bread and give it to them to eat?”

    β€œHow many loaves do you have?” he asked. β€œGo and see.”

    When they found out, they said, β€œFiveβ€”and two fish.”

    Then Jesus directed them to have all the people sit down in groups on the green grass. So they sat down in groups of hundreds and fifties. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to his disciples to distribute to the people. He also divided the two fish among them all. They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces of bread and fish. The number of the men who had eaten was five thousand.

At sila’y tinuruan niya ng maraming bagay. Nang dapit-hapon na, lumapit sa kanya ang mga alagad at ang sabi, β€œIlang ang pook ng ito at malapit nang lumubog ang araw. Payaunin na po ninyo ang mga tao sa mga karatig-nayon at bayan upang makabili ng pagkain.” Ngunit sinabi niya, β€œKayo ang magbigay sa kanila ng makakain.” β€œBibili po ba kami ng halagang dalawandaang denaryong tinapay upang ipakain sa kanila?” Tanong ng mga alagad. β€œIlan ba ang dala ninyong tinapay? Nang tipunin ng mga alagad ang lumabis na hati-hating tinapay at isda, nakapuno sila ng labindalawang bakol. Sa mga nagsikain, limanlibo ang mga lalaki.

    When Jesus heard that John had been put in prison, he withdrew to Galilee. Leaving Nazareth, he went and lived in Capernaum, which was by the lake in the area of Zebulun and Naphtaliβ€” to fulfill what was said through the prophet Isaiah:

    β€œLand of Zebulun and land of Naphtali,
    the Way of the Sea, beyond the Jordan,
    Galilee of the Gentilesβ€”
    the people living in darkness
    have seen a great light;
    on those living in the land of the shadow of death
    a light has dawned.”

    From that time on Jesus began to preach, β€œRepent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.”

    Nabalitaan ni Jesus na si Juan ay dinakip kaya't pumunta siya sa Galilea. Nilisan niya ang Nazareth at siya'y nanirahan sa Capernaum na nasa tabing-dagat, sa nasasakupan ng Zebulun at Neftali, upang matupad ang salita ng Diyos sa pamamagitan ni Propeta Isaias:

    β€œAng lupain ng Zebulun at ang lupain ng Neftaliβ€”
    daang patungo sa dagat, sa ibayo ng Jordan, Galilea ng mga Hentilβ€”
    Ang bayang itong nasasadlak sa kadiliman
    ay nakakita ng malaking tanglaw,
    Sa kanilang nakaupo sa lilim ng kamatayan
    ay may liwanag na sumilang.”

    Mula noon ay nagsimulang mangaral ng ganito si Jesus, β€œMagsisi kayo, sapagkat malapit nang dumating ang kaharian ng langit.”

    SUNDAY, JANUARY 5, 2025Solemnity of the Epiphany of the LordGOSPEL OF THE DAY: MATTHEW 2: 1 - 12

    After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, β€œWhere is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.”

    When King Herod heard this, he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him. When he had called together all the people’s chief priests and teachers of the law, he asked them where the Messiah was to be born. β€œIn Bethlehem in Judea,” they replied, β€œfor this is what the prophet has written:

    β€œβ€˜But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah,
    are by no means least among the rulers of Judah;
    for out of you will come a ruler
    who will shepherd my people Israel.’[b]”

    Then Herod called the Magi secretly and found out from them the exact time the star had appeared. He sent them to Bethlehem and said, β€œGo and search carefully for the child. As soon as you find him, report to me, so that I too may go and worship him.”

    After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen when it rose went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. And having been warned in a dream not to go back to Herod, they returned to their country by another route.

Pagpasok sa bahay, nakita nila ang bata sa piling ng kanyang inang si Maria. Lumapit sila at nagpatirapa at sinamba ang bata. Binuksan nila ang kanilang mga sisidlan at inihandog sa kanya ang dala nilang ginto, kamanyang at mira.Nang sila’y pabalik na, sinabi sa kanila ng Diyos sa pamamagitan ng panaginip na huwag na silang babalik kay Herodes.     The next day John was there again with two of his disciples. When he saw Jesus passing by, he said, β€œLook, the Lamb of God!”

    When the two disciples heard him say this, they followed Jesus. Turning around, Jesus saw them following and asked, β€œWhat do you want?”

    They said, β€œRabbi” (which means β€œTeacher”), β€œwhere are you staying?”

    β€œCome,” he replied, β€œand you will see.”

    So they went and saw where he was staying, and they spent that day with him. It was about four in the afternoon.

    Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, was one of the two who heard what John had said and who had followed Jesus. The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and tell him, β€œWe have found the Messiah” (that is, the Christ). And he brought him to Jesus.

    Jesus looked at him and said, β€œYou are Simon son of John. You will be called Cephas” (which, when translated, is Peter).

    SUNDAY, DECEMBER 29, 2024Feast of the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph GOSPEL OF THE DAY: LUKE 2: 41 - 52

    Every year Jesus’ parents went to Jerusalem for the Festival of the Passover. When he was twelve years old, they went up to the festival, according to the custom. After the festival was over, while his parents were returning home, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem, but they were unaware of it. Thinking he was in their company, they traveled on for a day. Then they began looking for him among their relatives and friends. When they did not find him, they went back to Jerusalem to look for him. After three days they found him in the temple courts, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. Everyone who heard him was amazed at his understanding and his answers. When his parents saw him, they were astonished. His mother said to him, β€œSon, why have you treated us like this? Your father and I have been anxiously searching for you.”

    β€œWhy were you searching for me?” he asked. β€œDidn’t you know I had to be in my Father’s house?” But they did not understand what he was saying to them.

    Then he went down to Nazareth with them and was obedient to them. But his mother treasured all these things in her heart. And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.

He has raised up for us a mighty Savior, born of the house of his servant David. Through his prophets he promised of old that he would save us from our enemies, from the hands of all who hate us. He promised to show mercy to our fathers and to remember his holy covenant. This was the oath he swore to our father Abraham: to set us free from the hand of our enemies, free to worship him without fear, holy and righteous in his sight all the days of our life.
