  • Do you have a son and are wondering how you can raise him to become a man?

Are you looking at the statistics about boys who are born to single moms and are wondering if your son will be ok?

Do you wish you had more tools to help you to better support your son?

I received a number of questions from single moms over in the Phenomenal Moms Facebook Group who were concerned that since they are single moms they couldn't raise boys who would become amazing men. These moms had questions about what they needed to do to make sure that their boys grew into strong men who thrived. Therefore, I decided to invite Barry White, Jr. to the podcast to answer their questions. Barry serves as a mentor to boys and works with them to help them to develop the character and skills they need in adulthood. Barry also speaks to parents about how to better support their boys.

In this episode, Barry White, Jr. and I have an amazing conversation about the things that single moms can do to help their sons, better support them, and help them to grow into amazing men with good character who thrive.

    In this episode we discuss:

How communicating your financial situation with your children can help them to understand the difference between wants and needs, finding contentment, and to determine what is important and what isn’t Why you shouldn’t tell your son that he is the man of the house and what you can say to encourage him instead Creating responsibilities, rules, chores, and boundaries for your son Simple things you can do to help your son develop common sense and critical thinking Why finding mentors and positive role models for your son is important and how to find those people How to vet potential mentors, staying vigilant, and talking to your son about safety How to help your son express and identify healthy emotions How to teach your son financial literacy Listen to the podcast episode below or check it out on iTunes, Google Play, and Stitcher.

  • Last week was Thanksgiving and November, in general, tends to be a month where we focus on giving thanks.

This is so important because the more you look for gratitude, the more you will find it and then the more you start looking for what is right, then the less you will focus on what is wrong.

Then when you make that shift you will find so much peace and may even see a change in your spending which leads to healthier finances.

But what if you don’t feel like finding gratitude? Then what? How do you find gratitude if you’re going through a lot, money is tight, there is trouble at the job, etc. and gratitude seems out of reach?

Today, we will talk about 7 Ways to Find Gratitude Even When It Seems Impossible.

  • One of the things that I love to do is community service. I constantly look for ways and opportunities to give back and to organize groups to serve the community. I truly believe that engaging in service is critical to living a full and complete life. Therefore, as my twins get older, I've been asking myself:

What can I do to start to plant the seeds of community service into the hearts of my children?

How can I begin to talk to them about community service?

What is the right age to start to encourage my children to participate in community service and what projects can they work on?

To help me to get the answers to these questions, I invited Marjorie Moore onto the Phenomenal Moms Podcast. Marjorie has 15 years of professional nonprofit organization management experience and has tons of experience helping families find the right service projects for their children.

In this podcast episode we discuss:

How to find service projects and volunteer partners Community service ideas for families with children of all ages How to talk to your children about the importance of service Life lessons that engaging in service will teach you The dos and don’ts when working on a service project The surprising things you need to ask about or know before you attend a service project How to help your child choose a service project for school community service hours

  • Have you ever felt like you were alone in your single motherhood journey?

Sometimes, does it feel like there isn’t anyone who you can just be real with?

Well... I had been praying and asking God how I could help to show single moms that we aren’t in this by ourselves. During one of my prayers, the Lord told me to interview RJ Rendon, one of the moms in the Phenomenal Moms Facebook Group.

Matter of fact, one day in the Facebook Group RJ gave me an amazing word of inspiration that helped to motivate and encourage me when I confessed to the ladies in the group that I had been crying. At the time, I felt so alone not because I was alone but because I didn’t think anyone understood what I was going through.

The thing is, sometimes we need to just tell someone how we feel to allow someone else to pour back into us just as we pour out every day into our children and others. Therefore, I decided to invite RJ on the podcast so she can share what she has learned during her single motherhood journey and how she has overcome obstacles and setbacks.

This isn’t just an interview. When you listen to this episode you will get to hear the real talk and encouragement that I pray that more of us get to have each and every day.

Here is a preview of what we will discuss:

Finding joy during the challenging moments Balancing your passions and desires with motherhood Building community How to handle life when your dream gets deferred The importance of serving others and how it can bless you

  • Welcome to Season 2 of the Phenomenal Moms Podcast!

Have you ever found yourself in a situation where you:

Avoided paying a bill or bills? Delayed a repair (home, car, appliance, etc.)? Ignored something about your health? Desired to change your diet or exercise habits, but never got around to it?

So often things pop up in our lives that we need to deal with, but for many reasons, we put them off. We put off these things because we may not have the time, money or energy to deal with it at that moment. Or, it may not seem like a big deal at that moment, because there are other more pressing things that demand our attention.

However, if we don’t deal with or pay attention to these things then over time, they can get bigger and can cause a bigger problem.

In this episode, we will discuss:

Why the small things matter in your life and finances How to think about and approach these seemingly small things The consequences of ignoring the small things How to find peace when you are dealing with situations that cause anxiousness and worry. • Are you a single mom who is facing burnout?

Are you exhausted from balancing work, motherhood, and everything else that you have to do?

Are you looking to find more balance and peace in your life?

In the Season 1 finale, I discuss the topic, "The Power of "No" On Your Time and Money."

Being a mom is hard work, and being a single mom presents unique motherhood challenges. Being a super dedicated, hands-on mom who gets everything done is important, but it is also important not to wear yourself thin. In this podcast episode, I share the advice that I gave another mom who was nearing burnout. The funny thing is, I actually forgot to take my own advice and recently ended up having to spend a day recovering from being sick because I was so busy being super mom, running FNPhenomenal, and teaching that I forgot to rest. In this episode, I share what I learned and how "no" will help you to manage both your time and money better.

  • I don’t know if it is just me, but this is something I ask myself all of the time. It feels like every time I get new clothes for my kids the next thing I know they are too small, stained, or already worn out.

Kids grow fast and clothing can get a lot of wear and tear. Sometimes it seems hard to replace clothes as fast as children outgrow them and destroy them with stains and holes. As moms, we want to make sure our kids dress nice, are presentable, and are happy. Children can also be conscious of what they are wearing because they want to put their best foot forward, and sometimes even want to keep up with the latest trend.

The question is how do we keep up with the demand and need for new clothing without going broke? This podcast episode will discuss:

5 ways to save money on children’s clothes How to rethink your clothing budget and how this also will teach your children financial literacy The number 1 thing you must consider when purchasing new clothes for your children

  • Do you feel judged on your single motherhood journey?

Are you questioning God's love for you and your children?

Do you wonder if God's promises include you and your children?

It is sad, but true that some people will look at you as if you are wearing, or should be wearing a scarlet letter. Some will automatically judge you as a sinner if you’re not married, and some will judge you if you were married, but are now divorced. Unfortunately, some will judge you without even knowing you simply because you are a single mother. That’s why it’s important for you to know the reality of the world around you, so you can arm yourself with God’s love, and prepare yourself for the negativity that may come on your single motherhood journey.

In this podcast episode, Aisha is joined by Rev. Connie who is a single mom by choice, ordained Reverand, and is responsible for developing the curriculum for her church's youth ministry. In this episode, she shares her experience with being judged by some people close to her, being removed from her responsibilities at church because she is a single mom, how this impacted her, and ultimately how she learned forgiveness. In this story, she also shares God's power and how He has shown up in major ways for her and her son.

In this podcast episode we will discuss:

What forms of judgment can single moms experience How single moms can refuse to allow herself to be defined by the judgment and biases of other people What God says about single moms and her children and how single moms can learn to believe God's promises What is church hurt and how to not allow it to impact your relationship with God What single moms can do to move from brokenness to wholeness and to view herself as God sees her

  • Are you resisting where God is trying to move you?

Are you struggling to do things God’s way because it isn’t popular and you feel alone because you feel like no one understands why you are choosing to follow God?

Do you struggle with letting go so God can become the guide of your life?

These are all questions that I wrestled with in the past and even at times continue to wrestle with. Obedience to God is hard because we are used to self-reliance. People can disappoint us which can make it hard to see just how much we can rely on God. At times we may even like to be in control and it can be frightening let go and depend on God especially when things aren’t going well or they are going slower than we would like. However, think about how many times we block our blessings because we don’t want to listen, we do things our own way, or are impatient.

In this podcast, we look at the story of Noah during the flood (Genesis 7) examine:

Why obedience is important The top 3 things that we can do to become more obedient to the Lord How our obedience will help us and help our children to flourish

  • As a single mom, there can be a lot of pressure on the household finances. Expenses pop up out of seemingly nowhere. Childcare, school field trips, school clothes, and pretty much all aspects of childcare are expensive. Also, there is more financial risk and pressure in a single parent home because you are managing your household on one income. If you lose your job or your hours get reduced, then you could experience financial devastation. Therefore, in addition to reducing and managing costs, it is important that we look for ways to maximize our income to help to minimize household financial risk. This podcast will teach you:

7 ways to earn extra income that doesn't involve getting a second job Why entrepreneurship is something you should consider + ideas on how to do it How to earn more money at your current job Ways to earn extra money without starting a side business
