For several years, the Regional Economic Development Center (REDC) at Yavapai College has submitted local price data to the organization that publishes cost of living figures for cities across the US. Ryan Jones, an economist at the REDC, highlights a notable trend from the Cost-of-Living Index (COLI): grocery prices. Over the last five years, grocery prices in Prescott have seen record increases, rising to a rate that’s six times higher than the average over the past 40 years. A portion of State Route 89 in Prescott, is closed following significant damage to the roadway from an underground water line break, between the Watson Lake and Phippen Roundabouts. Traffic is being diverted to Old SR 89 to go around the damaged roadway, however, alternate routes are advised to avoid the area entirely. Repairs are expected to take at least two weeks. The Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers to plan for overnight closures of Interstate 17 at J.W. Powell Boulevard in Flagstaff from Monday, June 24, to Thursday, June 27, as crews continue work on a new bridge at the interchange.
