  • In this episode, we’re talking about the profound impact of habits on the course of one's life. The results we experience in various aspects of life, such as finance and fitness, are often delayed reflections of our habits. But the thought of forming new and healthier habits is often very daunting because we typically imagine the herculean effort we're going to have to make in order to form those habits. — However, with the help of James Clear (author of the book ‘Atomic Habits’), I'm going to expose you to a concept that might change the way you think about forming simple habits that will have a massive impact on your future.

  • If you’ve ever traveled to a foreign country, then you may have experienced the manipulative pricing schemes that many people use to take advantage of customers who aren’t familiar with the way things work in that country. In many places, it’s common practice to charge tourists up to 10 times the price that a local would pay for the same products or services, especially if the tourists come from North American or European countries. — In this episode, I’ll speak about the practicality and morality of such pricing schemes, and why I think they’re a bad idea.

  • Being a parent is one of the many things in life that doesn’t come with an instruction manual. So naturally anyone who decides to become a parent is bound to make mistakes with the kids at some point. I don't have kids, but I have to imagine that as a parent, you're making mistakes all the time. — I mean, as a human, we're making mistakes all the time so I'm sure there's no difference.

One of the most detrimental mistakes that I've seen countless times and also experienced myself is what some people might call over-functioning for one’s children.

Over-functioning is basically doing things for your children that they can do for themselves. Some people say they do it out of love, others do it out of fear, but at the end of the day, constantly doing things for people that they can do for themselves isn't always a simple act of kindness. Sometimes you can train those people to be so dependent on you that they can't do anything for themselves. And that's not good for anyone.

So in today's episode, we're going to listen to a short clip from a conversation about this topic and I'll be here to explain all the nouns, verbs, and adjectives and then I’ll leave you with something to think about.

  • One thing they don't tell you about the road to success is that it's full of unforeseen obstacles, and sometimes those obstacles come in the form of people who simply don't want to see you win. However, what's even more surprising is the reason that some people don't want to see you win. Let’s talk about it.

  • There are many great English teachers out there, but the sad truth is that some are just looking to profit off your ignorance and insecurity. Instead of providing the tools you need to reach your goal, they sell you the dream of English fluency without effort. All you have to do is keep watching their videos and buy their overpriced courses.

It’s troubling that many language teachers spend little to no time talking about what languages are actually used for: communication. As a result, many English learners obsess over grammar, accents, and unnatural vocabulary, believing these are the keys to becoming great communicators. They've been misled into thinking that staying in their comfort zones and avoiding the truth is the most effective path to fluency. This couldn't be further from the truth.

In this episode, I want to simplify things for all English learners seeking practical solutions that won't waste their time or break the bank. With the help of Cristiano Ronaldo and Jimmy Carr, I'm going to show you the only thing you need to be fluent in English.

  • If you know me, then you know that I have an extremely dark sense of humor and I love stand up comedy.

As a language learner, being able to understand jokes and cultural humor is a sign that you’ve reached a relatively advanced level because stand up comedy is heavily influenced by culture. So if you can understand not only the words being said, but also the reason that people find it funny, then you’ve got a pretty good understanding of both the language and the culture.

So this episode is for all of my stand up comedy lovers who want to put their English to the test and get more familiar with American culture. This list of comedians is in no particular order, by the way. You can also check the description of this episode for a link to a YouTube playlist with some of the comedy specials I’ll be mentioning today.
