  • Ahead of the UK release of Disney Pixar’s “Lightyear”, the Emmy award winning actress Keke Palmer speaks with Clare Anyiam-Osigwe this Thursday on The Screenlately show – the weekly film and TV talk show hosted by husband and wife team Emmanuel & Clare Anyiam-Osigwe.

“Lightyear” features the voices of Chris Evans as Buzz Lightyear and Uzo Aduba as his commander and best friend, Alisha Hawthorne, with Keke Palmer lending her voice as Izzy Hawthorne who, as leader of the Junior Zap Patrol, has dreams of becoming a Space Ranger like her grandmother Alisha.

“Keke is just a burst of energy—as a performer and as a person,” says director Angus MacLane. “She’s a really creative force of nature.”

According to Palmer, she’s not the only one. “Angus’ imagination is amazing,” she says. “He’s brilliant in his ability to create an amazing world with action-packed energy—all in a very heartwarming story. It’s not just a bunch of gags and special effects. It also has a lot of really deep messages.”

“Keke quickly helped define the character,” MacLane says. “Izzy represents an opportunity for Buzz to reconnect with Alisha after losing so much time with his best friend through his own hubris. This is his chance to get it right.”

Screenlately co-host Clare Anyiam-Osigwe was one of several broadcasters including Vanessa Feltz and Claudia-Liza Vanderpuije who attended a “Lightyear” pre-release screening held at Odeon Leicester Square.

Anyiam-Osigwe said “It was great to take my 2 girls to the cinema for the first time in their lives and see black girls and black women represented”.

Thursday’s Screenlately show will also feature musician and entrepreneur Krept, one half of hip-hop duo Krept & Konan, talking about the release of new skincare line Nala’s Baby and entrepreneurship and actor Femi Oyeniran, award-winning filmmaker and host of the British Urban Film Festival awards.
