Welcome back to Sitting In Jams!
The boys are still down to two this week, but fortunately, thereâs a brand new, chilled, but exciting episode ready for your ears! This episode is aimed at the gearheads! Rhys and Jack sat down this week to talk (fangirl) over their mutual love for a new reverb pedal that Rhys bought, the Ventris by Source Audio. Among other things, this episode touches on some useful gear advice for those who are just getting their first pedal or building their board.
Perhaps youâre looking for some new ideas to get you back into the practice rooms or new sounds to help those creative juices start flowing again! Investing in new pedals and small gear additions to your setup can be an ideal way of jump-starting a new interest in composition, performance, or curiosity!
What new pedals have inspired you recently? Comment below!

When guitarists start to get serious about the instrument, it often leads them to explore the crazy world of technique.
This episode is about picking techniques and how guitarists can pinpoint their right-hand weaknesses. Touching upon advice from Yngwie Malmsteen and Eric Johnson, we explored some of our own weaknesses and how advice from the pros can go a long way!
We hope that you enjoy the episode and pick up some of the technique golden nuggets that were shared. Let us know in the comments what technique tip helped you the most?

In our discussion today, we break down all of the ways that weâve found it helpful to learn music for gigs, for enjoyment and for the challenge of it! Each of us comes from a different musical background so it was an interesting conversation where we all share our various approaches.

Welcome back to Sitting In Jams!
Weâre back with a brand new episode for your un/caffeinated ears!
his week, weâre discussing what self-reflection is like for musicians. For a lot of creative people, itâs highly important that they have an outlet for deeper thoughts, feelings, and debriefs on their creative experiences. Sometimes, itâs about capturing concepts or ideas to work on at a later date.We started by discussing famous musicians & artists, the necessity of their self-reflection for their artwork, and exploring how we each journal our experiences, both musical and non-musical reflections.
How important is it for you to document your own self-reflections on your creative journey?
We would love to know your thoughts in the comment section below!

Welcome back to Sitting In Jams!
This week we were without Callum! So, we thought that it would be a nice opportunity to talk about the state of social media and musicians. Weâve been meaning to have this conversation for some time as social media is a big part of our business and personal lives. Connecting with like-minded creatives, musicians and a new audience is the biggest positive of using social media. Knowing how to start or what to post can become an infuriating and confusing process. We want to remain true to our artwork and persona but itâs easy to get caught up in battling the magical algorithms, driving engagement and audience traffic. It can quickly become a wild goose chase.
Our conversation covers a wide variety of topics concerning musicians and social media. This was a fun chat for both of us but we would love to know your thoughts in the comment section!
Tell us, what do you like/dislike about social media and the music world?

Welcome back to Sitting In Jams!
This week, we took a step back from music to talk about some of our current favourite books and writings that have been inspiring us. From philosophical daily readings to books on improvisation and neurology. Books can be a great resource to help generate new ideas or help us develop; positive habits, thoughts around music, ideas for life, and discipline. This conversation had some laughs and was a lot of fun to have. We hope that you thoroughly enjoy it!

Welcome back to Sitting In Jams!
This one is a gear talk episode.
We thought that it would be fun to dive into a conversation about the gear weâve been using most recently and some of our revelations around amps, picks and general gear setups. Coming from varying musical backgrounds, this was a fun topic for us to get started with. As youâll hear in the episode, each of us had different approaches and views on how important gear is. Whether youâre a hardcore gear nerd, or more conservative with your management of gear, this episode is goldilocksâ setup. Itâs just right for you!

Welcome back to Sitting In Jams!
In episode 5, we explored a cool concept that Jack shared in his blog this week titled, âGuitar: The Problem Solving Instrumentâ. Here, we primarily talk about what it means to be a guitar player in the 21st century. From the diversity of music education, new and exciting technologies appearing on the big stages, to the insane and fresh guitar playing techniques that are blossoming on the scene today. We chat about everything guitar-shaped, including the future!
This topic was so much fun to dive into and we all had something different to share on the subject of guitars, and what it means to play this ever-evolving instrument!

Welcome back to Sitting In Jams!
This week, we took on a question from one of our listeners asking about the worst trainwreck situations that weâve each found ourselves in. This opened up some interesting conversation talking about everything from performance nightmares, anxiety-provoking experiences on and off stage and studio mishaps. This episode is packed full of funny moments, learning curves and a hilarious video documenting one of these trainwrecks! Tune in and listen as we each break down our worst musician moments and talk about the learning points that we all came out with.
If youâre a musician or performer who has had a similar (or worse!) experience, weâd love to know what happened to you and how you bounced back! Drop a comment below and weâll be sure to read through them all.

Welcome back to Sitting In Jams!
This week, weâre back again to talk about the bogeyman under every musicianâs bed.. Music theory.
In this jam, we each break down our thoughts on how useful music theory can be for the average musician, and whether it is worth investing in music theory to further your musicianship. As improvisers, composers and teachers we explore the conversation around music theory and where itâs not so useful. This segment also dives into some of the ways that we draw back from theoretical concepts and use other means to influence our creative process. We all found this a fun concept to explore as each of us had different thoughts and ideas that led to interesting avenues of discussion. From understanding how history has viewed music theory to chats about our own experiences abandoning and embracing music theory. If youâre a musician who wonders about how important music theory is to your creative process, weâre sure that youâll love this episode of Sitting In Jams. We hope that you enjoy the episode and our discussion on the topic.

Welcome back to Sitting In Jams!
A couple of weeks ago, we received a great question about going to music school and whether itâs worth investing in.
Instead of quick-fire answering this in our Q & A episode, we decided to break it down in a Jams episode. Perhaps youâre a musician whoâs contemplating going to music school and canât decide whether you think itâs right for you?
In this episode, youâll hear all 3 of us break down our thoughts on going to music school.
By sharing our individual experiences of; the journey through music school; What we enjoyed about our experiences, what music school doesnât tell you about when you graduate, What we wished we would have known. We hope that our discussion can provide some insights and open doors for anyone struggling with this decision.
We hope that you enjoy the episode and our discussion on the topic.

Welcome back to Sitting In Jams!
This week, we all decided to explore the subject of âmaking practice personalâ. As all of us are professional musicians/guitarists, this topic was especially close to home. It was a fun discussion to recollect on our own experiences and methods to explore how each of us learned how to practice.
In this episode, we break down what practice means, and some applicable methods for personalising practice. This will be especially useful for musicians who have ever felt stuck in a rut or who feel directionless when sitting down at their instrument. We hope that you enjoy the episode and our discussion on the topic. If youâd like to get involved with our other Sitting In listeners, find us on the links below!
