We're smack dab in the middle of the NFL and college football seasons. Why are we still seeing players drop the ball before they reach the end zone? How has this happened more than once in the history of football?
Plus, Joey gets unexpected guests at the house, a fun fact about those tall skeletons you may have seen in people's yards, and a rude trash talker during rec league basketball.

Astute American listeners may have noticed there was an election last week, with the President all the way to local politicians up for office.
Trying to talk about sports after the chaos of the past week feels like a silly endeavor, but we're gonna try our best! After all, the dumb moments don't stop.

First things first: If you're in the U.S., please vote!
Now, for the episode: Mookie Betts makes a catch in the crowd, and fans try to break his wrist to wrestle the ball from his grasp. Jason Kelce gets asked a homophobic question. Why do fans think they can treat players so poorly and not face repercussions?
Thankfully, in both cases, the offending parties were punished — in the latter, Jason Kelce smashed the guy’s phone on the ground, which you love to see. But still, this is not the behavior anyone needs.
Plus, outfielders losing track of outs in an inning and prematurely throwing the ball into the stands, throwbacks to both How I Met Your Mother and Sister, Sister and the best way to respond to trash getting thrown on the field.
We hope those fans don’t read this part, but we hope you do! Sports R Dumb on Instagram or give the show a rating or review on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or Goodpods. And check out Burning Years anywhere you’re hearing this podcast. Thanks for listening!

It’s a spooktacular of dumb sports moments! We’re covering the Boston Celtics playing angry basketball, load management already being a thing one week into the NBA season, Chicago Bears safety Tyrique Stevenson taunting fans while a Hail Mary was happening, Sean’s Dallas Cowboys, and lackluster coverage around the World Series even though it’s got the two most popular teams in it.
We’re also dissecting underrated Halloween candies and relating to each other’s lack of conditioning in our respective shorts leagues. Luckily, the two pair together quite nicely.

It was a busy weekend of dumb moments in sports, but Sean doesn’t remember perhaps the dumbest of them all - by the time Texas Longhorns fans were throwing trash on the football field, he was already blacked out. Oops.
We’re also discussing Cheryl Reeve criticizing officiating after her Minnesota Lynx lost to the New York Liberty in the WNBA Finals, why it’s okay to boo football players when they’re not good people, and an awkward moment when someone gets injured during a pickup basketball game.

Picture this: You’re enjoying a nice baseball game, and the best player from the opposing team hits a home run. It’s soaring through the sky and lands directly in your hands. Wow, what a memory you have! Until everyone in your section tries to coerce you into throwing the ball back, because it wasn’t your team that hit the dinger.
Plus, Sean and Joey attended the same housewarming party, but only one of them did wine shots at the party and then got a Krabby Patty on the way back. Can you guess who?

Sean was very sick the day before we recorded, but he’s thriving now. Surely, he’ll be good for the rest of the year, right? That’s the mindset of many teams, who look ahead and assume everyone will be healthy and at peak performance by the end of the season. That is often wishful thinking.
Plus, Joey did a foolish thing after Miami’s wild comeback win over Cal. Don’t be like him. What a wacky weekend of chaotic football and delightful upsets, including one that ended with goalposts in a river 2.5 miles away from the stadium. Nice victory, Vanderbilt! We’ve also great a guy idea for a Halloween episode of The Price Is Right.

Joey is back after an east coast adventure, and quite a bit happened! He went to an Orioles game, a Phillies game, made a few friends, had some laughs, and went to a Miami Hurricanes watch party in New York City. Never has there been so much anxiety in one room!
Miami won on a Hail Mary that was overturned, and people got enraged. They yelled things like, "How could you say there was indisputable evidence?" or suggesting the NCAA is rigged. These same folks seem to conveniently overlook other elements from the game like Virginia Tech failing at a fake field goal or being extremely casual with time management on the final drive.
As it turns out, a game consists of more than just one play. And this is hardly the only context where it's happened. So, try not to overreact too much to one moment, yeah? It's a good rule for life in general.
Since we recorded, we also lost sports legends Dikembe Mutombo and Pete Rose. Our thoughts are with their families, and we hope you do a finger wag or make a graceful slide in their honor.

Joey has attended MANY baseball games in person over the past month or so. He's noticed a trend at some of these stadiums: People standing in the way, completely unaware of other fans around them. Sean has seating gripes, too. It all boils down to the simple lesson of having just the littlest bit of compassion for your fellow human.
Hopefully your teams are still doing well! Follow Sports R Dumb on Instagram or give the show a rating or review on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or Goodpods. Thanks for listening!

Sean’s car got broken into — that is DUMB. But it’s not about sports, so it only gets an honorable mention in this episode.
The rest of his ire is directed at the copious amounts of streaming services that offer live games. Trying to keep up with everything is an impossible task when you need to subscribe to approximately 194 different platforms—and you still often don’t get all the advertised games. As always, greed and money play a significant factor.
We hope you get to watch your favorite games without issue. Follow Sports R Dumb on Instagram or give the show a rating or review on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or Goodpods. Thanks for listening!

The NFL is back! And thankfully, there was no shortage of dumb moments both on and off the field. From Tyreek Hill getting handcuffed on his way to the game to Will Levis's truly baffling interception, we're diving into our favorites.
Sean is also free from fantasy football, and he's never been happier! Now he just needs to watch out for giant American flags.

During terrible tragedies, such as the recent death of Johnny Gaudreau and his brother, people across the Internet offer their condolences. Many of those fans will also share that they’re fans of another team. “As an Islanders fan, this is so sad,” for example. No, folks, as a human being, this is so sad. We don’t need to make it about us.
Plus, we talk about The Mole with Anderson Cooper and MadTV. Nothing like reminiscing on shows that have been off the air for approximately 16 to 23 years! And the Buffalo Bills know quite a few obscure NBA players. You love to see it!
Note: We recorded this before the Gaudreau tragedy happened, which is why it’s absent from the episode. It’s an awful event. Give your loved ones a hug.

It’s Joey’s birthday celebration, and he’s already been distressed by a cake promotion at his local grocery store, but we’re powering through! Unfortunately, today’s topic is also powering through sports, and that’s real dumb.
We’re seeing just about every player doing the “too small” taunt to opponents. And people are referring to everyone as “him,” or, even worse, saying, “I’m him” after making a play. A person in Joey’s rec league did this. As Sean notes, if you are paying to play in a league, you are, in fact, not him.
Plus, Joey sent a sternly worded email that actually got a result! And tell us this Relient K song isn’t a banger from an album with a beautiful punny title.
Whether you’re him or not, we love having you aboard! Follow Sports R Dumb on Instagram or give the show a rating or review on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or Goodpods. Thanks for listening!

What do the Little League World Series and a puddle of drool have in common? They both feel sort of icky to see on your TV. Yet, year after year, people watch these children play baseball, sometimes getting mad when they make mistakes. You know, because they're not even teenagers, and none of us were graceful back then.
Joey and Sean both went to separate Texas Rangers games within the past week. Beyond that, Joey had a weird dinner experience, and Sean has a hot take about live baseball.

The 2024 Olympics are in the books! And now we're already previewing Los Angeles 2028, which feels highly premature. Let's appreciate the good (and occasionally dumb) stuff that happened during the Olympics.

The Olympics have been a delight—for the most part. We still have people critiquing athletes like Noah Lyles and suggesting Sha'Carri Richardson should boycott the race she's been training for eight years to run to prove a point about Parisian etiquette.
As Simone Biles noted, many people are asking what Olympians do after winning a medal. Maybe those Olympians can enjoy their wildly impressive accomplishments?
Here's the fun podcast with American Idol contest Kate Watson that we chat about during the show!

The 2024 Olympics are in full swing, and there’s lots to cover! We’re chatting about why winning any medal is an impressive accomplishment, the greatness of sports like rugby and badminton, the fantastic story of the Canadian women’s soccer team, and some of the silliest discourse around various sports and teams. Plus, a tangent into the surprisingly deep meanings behind Hanson's lyrics.
Here’s the video Sean and I made many moons ago where we tried to play the 1996 video game Summer Olympic Games on a MacBook emulator. It goes about as well as you’d expect.

We’ve had a lot of major events happening over the past year or so. President Biden just dropped out of the presidential race. Donald Trump survived an assassination attempt. Willie Mays and Queen Elizabeth died. And in all of those instances—and more—Nick Castellanos has hit a home run. Here, have a montage!
Also, Sean apologizes for getting a couple of facts wrong, like this latest dinger coming in a losing effort in the bottom of the ninth when it actually happened during the top of the ninth in a Phillies victory.
Plus, Team USA basketball is narrowly beating teams in their practice games, Sean is sore from diving and slam dunking at a pool party, and Joey has a cousin in the Olympics! Keep an eye out for Ryan Held in the 4 x 100 men’s swimming freestyle relay.
Finally, here’s the clip of James Harden slamming the ball into his face, plus Josh Hart’s delightful reaction.

We're in the lazy days of summer, which means there isn't a lot of sports news going on. So, let's reminisce about those times when we were kids and played games and practiced when it was well over 90 degrees outside!
Plus, stupid rules Joey's high school basketball team had, the ideal temperature for your AC unit, and where the term "the dog days of summer" comes from.

We're in the dog days of summer. That means we're wondering whether the members of Team USA can spin a basketball on their fingers and trying to fool coworkers with a fictitious shark petting zoo in honor of Shark Week.
It's also a great time to look at the dumber rules of different sports and offer various ways to improve them. This strategy probably won't work, but the first step to affecting change is to speak it into existence.
