This episode holds so much warmth and beauty - while talking about some very vulnerable areas. Today's guest is a Solution Oriented Hypnotherapist who also works in palliative care, and we talk about how her sensitive superpowers are such a wonderful gift to help people feel seen and held at what can easily be a very scary time.
Louise is a 40-something living in the North of England with her small family and growing menagerie of rescue pets. She grew up worrying about environmental issues and would frequently get upset at certain tv shows or at the end of holidays but never identified as highly sensitive until a couple of years ago when everything began to make sense.
She works as a Macmillan palliative care Occupational Therapist part-time where her empathetic skills are put to use and she finds great purpose in helping others. Having previously struggled with her mental health, she had a course of hypnotherapy after other treatments were unsuccessful. Having hypnotherapy was so life-changing that she went on to train as a Solution Focused Hypnotherapist and now runs Nurture Hypnotherapy and sees clients both online and in-person.
Louise works with a Solution Focused Approach which means that there is no need to unpick the past. Instead, the focus is firmly on the future and the steps that can be taken to get there. Today's guest is Robert Gold who has gone from feeling isolated as a child for his sensitivity and special talents, to designing ways of better understanding our world. What was once experienced as a 'handicap' has become one of his most valued gifts. His passion is helping others appreciate who them are and what they have to offer, others.
Robert Gold is a practicing Ontologist with forty years of experience. As a sensitive, empathic, and gifted child, he was often misunderstood. Among his talents-- repairing home appliances before he could read. To cope with a dismissive and hostile home environment, he figured out how to alter his schedule so he could be awake when everyone else was asleep. In elementary school, he taught himself to overcome undetected learning differences and sensory issues, including ADD and dyslexia.
Fast forward, just four years ago, he discovered that he fit the neurodiverse profile, perfectly. The revelation has enhanced his work as a Communication Specialist and Trust Development Coach.
He specializes in supporting children, teens, and adults stuck in thought patterns known as circular thinking. Clearing them from the mind allows one, at any age, to express wants and needs, effectively and productively.
Robert also happens to be a visionary and an author. His latest work is a fascinating journey into the near future, where everyone is appreciated for who they are, no need for labels. This episode is the 25th anniversary of the podcast, but it is also special because today's guest is the first HSP person I have interviewed who has always felt loved and appreciated for her sensitivity.
Mary Barringer only experienced small pockets of resistance to her sensitive nature when she was growing up, and this to me was such a revelation. And I hope this will become the way future generations of HSPs grow up - naturally understanding that, of course, it's a gift to be sensitive!

Everyone deserves to live and work under nice conditions, but as sensitivities, we tend to be more affected by the subtleties in our surroundings.
Today's guest is a Sensory Interior Designer who possesses synaesthesia. This neurological gift allows her to experience multiple results from a single sensory input. For example, she won't listen to classical music while driving because the images of costumes, architecture or period furnishings, that come to mind can be quite distracting. When seeing colors, they may come with flavors, scents or some other sensation, and so on.
In Carolyn Gold's case, synaesthesia is not only pleasurable and manageable but it's become her Sensitive Superpower. Her specialty is making sure children and adults have balanced and healthy lives. The process includes careful listening and observing. The results invite relaxation and improved sleep. Greater focus during the day is always welcome when it comes to productive learning, working, eating, and even playing. Sensory savvy environments contain customized elements for each person's needs so they can feel nurtured, soothed, or stimulated, at the right time, in the right space.

As sensitives, we are typically all too familiar with the sense of being 'wrong', and how it feels to fail at living up to the expectations we think others have of us. From this experience, today's guest has developed the superpower of being really good at listening to people and validating them.
This is beautiful in all areas of life, but Aubrey Reinmiller has taken her magic power and used it in the field of physical fitness and well-being. I find that especially powerful since many of us have bad memories from gym classes in High Shcool which can make us reluctant to seek out a personal trainer.

What role does culture play in our lives as sensitives? Our guest today is Juri Love who was born in Japan and moved to America where she is thriving as a journalist, producer, model, actress, mom, and philanthropist. That has been a big shift and we talk about how especially women have different roles and opportunities.
Juri has a very full schedule and shares how she learned to focus on doing the things she enjoys doing and how she uses manifestation and Law of Attraction to do so. Juri has a past of violence, abuse, and homelessness which has taught her to be strong and to use her intuition.

Jennifer Parker shares an amazing story of homeschooling her 3 boys, discovering HSP, and building resiliency.
And then we talk about the superpower many sensitives seem to have in common - taking on the role of cycle breakers. It takes a lot of courage, but sensitive people are uniquely equipped to do this work because of our natural introspectiveness and our emotional strength. We know from experience how important it is to be our WHOLE selves, and breaking the patterns of generational trauma is just one of the ways we can leave a sensitive legacy.
Jennifer has been studying personal growth for almost two decades. What she found is this: Much of what is taught in the personal growth world simply does not work for everyone!
Particularly if we have highly sensitive nervous systems and/or nervous systems that have been wired during trauma, pushing ourselves harder only backfires. Those findings inspired her to write her first book, Secrets of the Resilient Empath.
In her spare time, Jennifer enjoys hanging out with her husband and three boys, contemplating the mysteries of the universe, and laughing until her face hurts. If she isn’t at home, she’s likely either hiking in the woods or at the local nursery looking for one more plant.

Being sensitive often means we have a lot of focus on others - what they need, what they expect, and how they feel. Sometimes so much that we lose our own sense of identity.

Sometimes there are people in our lives that we have to keep a distance from if we want to honor our own well-being. This was true for today's guest, LaMiskey Love, even though some of those people were family.

One of our sensitive superpowers is an increased awareness of what is going on - not just for ourselves, but for others too.
In this episode, Magali Chastaing describes how an unhealthy relationship was the catalyst for her to look back and become an emotional detective to understand what she had felt growing up about this ability to sense - and point out what was happening emotionally in a room.
It might be a superpower, but when we are repeatedly met with criticism from people who are not aware or not capable of handling what we point out, it can cause us to internalize a lot of shame.
Magali was on an intense journey to discover how to turn this sensitive trait into powerful healing by releasing judgment. First for herself and now she uses all her superpowers to hold a healing space for others to help them take responsibility and heal their wounds.
Magali has spent the last decade intensively studying and researching consciousness, energy, trauma, healing, and self-development. She is trained in shiatsu, somatic experiencing, NARM, shamanism, and Reiki. Over time she has refined her own methodology which relies on authentic presence, sharp awareness, and a deep acceptance of the manifold expressions of being human.
Personally, she has experienced major transformations by confronting herself in silent meditation retreats, isolation, and in the dark. Through these experiences, she has transcended what she thought were her limits and acquainted herself with previously uncharted corners of her soul.

Highly Sensitive People often have stories about narcissistic relationships, and most of those stories are heartbreaking tales of suffering and insecurity. Luckily there are also stories with happy endings - like today's guest, Elisa Colangeli is sharing with us in this episode.
Elisa spent 2 years in a relationship with a narcissist, and that was when she learned about HSP and her own sensitivity. She had to find ways to handle her sensitivity so she didn't lose herself in the relationship. That journey transformed her from feeling like a victim to realizing her own inner power.
One of the things Elisa learned, was that she needed to find time for something that was just HERS, not just a hobby, but a PASSION. This is also her advice to other sensitives; find and do something for YOU.
This passion turned out to be paining, and today, Elisa is combining her sensitive superpowers with a psychological understanding of archetypes to paint powerful portraits of women. Elisa's mission is to paint more than the physical appearance. She tunes into the soul and the story of the women she paints - she captures their essence on the canvas and thereby shows them new sides of themselves.
Elisa is from Italy and she is a wife, mother of two boys, and an environmental engineer working full time in a regional environmental protection agency.
She spent most of her life studying, working and taking care of the family, and for a long time, she pulled apart her passion for art because of the lack of time and difficulties in managing an already busy daily routine.
Three years ago she realized that it was time to do something for herself, so she started dedicating time to make art systematically, learning to use different media such as charcoal, acrylic, and oil paints.
Her inspiration comes from people, especially women, and she is interested in interpreting and understanding their inner world made of dreams, fears, hope, rebirth. Being aware, on the basis of her direct experience, that women need to discover themselves and to be seen authentically, beyond stereotypes and labels, Elisa aims to help them to strengthen their identity. By her figurative paintings, set halfway between realism and expressivity, she invites women to be proud of their past, enjoy the present and face the future with joy. A poem, a book, a sentence on a newspaper, a chat with a friend, can all offer Elisa hints on new concepts and ideas for future paintings.

Growing up as sensitives, we easily learn to be ashamed of our emotional and thoughtful nature. Especially for men whose sensitive qualities rarely live up to society's stereotypical view of masculinity.
For Bill Allen, it took almost 10 years for him to accept and embrace being a HSP. Today he is here to share how he found authentic confidence in being a sensitive man by stepping up and being open about his sensitive nature. You might be surprised by how well he has been received by others - even as a corporate manager where his 'soft skills' turned out to be appreciated by all levels of the organization.
William Allen is an author with a writer’s heart and researcher’s mind. After getting a degree in Psychology with an eye on doing psychology research, he recalibrated for a career in Information Technology. He found himself in a thirty-year career as an Information Technology manager at Wells Fargo who enjoyed managing highly intelligent, often difficult staff, many of whom were highly sensitive.
He retired early from his corporate job to start his Hypno-coaching and neurofeedback brain training business, BrainPilots, in Bend, Oregon. In late 2016, he began his blog, The Sensitive Man, about his experiences, as a highly sensitive man. The blog became the genesis of his first book, Confessions of a Sensitive Man. His new book, On Being a Sensitive Man, is the follow-up book, which focuses on how to live in the world as a sensitive man.
He feels that HSP males need to take their keen insights and intuition and make them public. He would like to shed more light on highly sensitive males and the much-needed role they need to take in our society.

As children, most of us had to shut down our sensitive sides - and we might have lost touch with these parts of ourselves as we grew up.
Emma Camble is on the show to share with us how healing gentleness and tenderness towards ourselves can be. When we experience a safe space for all the suppressed sides, we can let them re-surface and become re-integrated.
For Emma, visual intuition is a powerful tool - it gives her insights into what is going on for other people. Even things they might not be aware of themselves. In a way, Emma uses her sensitive superpowers to help people translate what their emotions are trying to tell them.
Emma has three gorgeous children, aged six and over. She completed her career in charities as an international fundraiser in whale and dolphin conservation to become a full-time mother.
As a highly sensitive child herself, she was interested in exploring dreams even in her teens. She started her personal development path as a tai chi student of Alan Peck in the lineage of Chen Man Ching, studying more recently with energy and feng shui master Marie Diamond.
A life-long learner, her studies have led her from physics at university to developing her intuition at the Atmana Coaching Academy. She is now an intuitive life coach guiding mothers to create more joy and harmony with their families by connecting with their own inner child.
