One of the world's greatest golf courses, and the world's oldest continually played golf course. Both have a wealthy past when it comes to The Open.
HCEG Murifeld has played host to The Open on 16 occasions with winners such as Nick Faldo, Jack Nicklaus, Walter Hagen and James Braid.
Old Musselburgh was one of the original three venues to host The Open in its early days. The championship was played on the links 6 times between 1874 & 1889.

What’s special about the Old Course? Is it the sense of history as you stand on the first tee? The proximity to the warm, toffee-coloured sandstone of the imposing R&A Clubhouse just behind you or, glancing left, the huge estate of the 18th green and the Valley of Sin, now much deeper than it looks on television?
We discuss everything St Andrews on this weeks podcast as we anticipate the 150th Open teeing off Thursday.

In this episode we found out a little-known fact one in every five courses in Scotland are made up of only nine holes. Going back generations, these short-form layouts were at the heart of villages and town, the lifeblood of the community where people could gather and enjoy a game for all levels of ability. It seems appropriate this trail would be called 'Honest & Short'. We also explore Scotland’s less obvious which are are those venues that perhaps sit in the shadow of siblings, go under the radar or lack the profile enjoyed by bigger names. However, that takes nothing away from their quality, value for money and experience.

While Scotland may be famed for its championship links layouts, the quality of golf within the nation’s major cities is notable. Indeed, the highest concentrations of golf courses in Scotland are around Glasgow (over 90 courses) and the capital city of Edinburgh (over 65 courses). We love a good Ale and a pint of Lager but the choice is yours – just like the golf. And don’t forget the local gin choices too, which continue to grow in popularity. Get Crafty is a trail we can't wait to explore!
