Arthur returns to Berlin for a late May gallery road trip with Alise, before she takes on a new position as a gallery director in Portugal.
Still piecing together the best exhibitions of Berlin Gallery Weekend, our art drivers head to Haverkampf Leistenschneider, to see Aubrey Levinthalâs exhibition âCloud Coverâ. Itâs hard to overstate the poetry of this show. There is so much to take in â so many stories to unravel in each composition â that it really deserves to be seen in person, before closing on 15 June.
From there, the drive and conversation meander towards KaDeWe, the Frank Auerbach exhibition âThe Charcoal Headsâ at The Courtauld, and a discussion of how exactly the show will continue with Alise no longer in Berlin (spoiler: Arthur will call her on the car phone, and there may be one or two new guest hosts in the passenger seat).

A slight change in programming this week, as Arthur, Kristina, and Rudi drive all the way to London to see Deborah Laidlawâs first solo exhibition, 'Flourish', at Sydney Studios.
Arthur and Deborah (nom de guerre: Debbie) stand in the space itself to describe the works, as well as how they came into being. The conversation covers Deborahâs training as a graphic designer, 'Flourish' as a departure point for the show in both iconographic and emotional terms, and the state of Andy Warholâs socks.
Alise and Arthur are back on the right side of the road next week, with a trip to Haverkampf Leistenschneider, as well as some big plans for the podcast.

Arthur Laidlaw & Alise Careva are back for another Art Drive. Still grappling with the fallout of Berlin Gallery Weekend, Alise & Arthur (& Rudi) check out two iconic Mitte galleries: Galerie Eigen+Art (not the lab!), and SprĂŒth Magers. First, a look at some âold fashionedâ (in a good way!) paintings by Kristina Schuldt, then a beautiful, obliquely political group show titled âterritoryâ, featuring work by Mire Lee, Liu Yujia, Gala Porras-Kim, Tan Jing, Zhang Ruyi. Arthur teases a show opening next week in London by his mum (Rudiâs Oma!), Deborah Laidlaw, and Alise alludes to some upcoming news of her own, which may or may not affect our intrepid, itinerant podcasters.
