This episode continues our quest to learn about The Vitality of Prayer. Grab your Bible, a pen, and some paper and join me as we look at how Moses prayed on Mt Sinai for the sins of the people..

Exodus 32 is major event in between Israel being in captivity in Egypt and the promised land of Canaan. God is giving Moses the law, written by His own hand, on tablets of stone. Then God tells Moses there is trouble in the camp and God wants to focus on His anger against the people. He tells Moses He wants to create the nation again from Moses because He is going to destroy them all. Moses now pleads the case for God's plan for mankind. It is a logical prayer based on God's promises to Abraham. God hears Moses and changes His mind. THEN Moses goes down to the camp and actually sees with his own eyes what the people have done. Now Moses is emotional. He directs the Levites in executing God's punishment on the people and then Moses prays again. This time his prayer is more emotional. He is begging for mercy and forgiveness for the people. If God says their lives are forfeit, he would rather go with them (remember God offered to create a nation from him just a bit before when he was on the mountain) to death. Logic and emotion. Pleas or an orderly case laid out for God. All are proper in prayer when directed toward God in a way that acknowledges His sovereignty and glorifies Him. Your messy, muddy prayers are just as worshipful as the ones said in an orderly fashion at another time. God just wants you to PRAY. Take the time to study prayer so you can be more diligent about prayer. This is your conversation with God! Make it a good conversation.

Season 4 of The Diligent Woman Podcast is going to be all about The Vitality of Prayer.

First Thessalonians 5:16-18 says, "rejoice, always pray without ceasing. In everything. Give thanks for this as God's will for you in Christ jesus." It's God's will for you that you are able to rejoice, pray, and give thanks.

This episode is the first in our new series on The Vitality of Prayer. Grab your Bible, a pen, and some paper and join me as we look at how Jesus taught His disciples to pray. Luke 11 and Matthew 6 both share Jesus' teaching how to pray. Both instances show how prayer is personal and emotional while also being worshipful and purposeful. This lovely "template" for prayer gives you a place to start. When you study other prayers in the Bible you will see the same themes Jesus covers here, but you also see how many different ways prayer can be offered. Take the time to study prayer so you can be more diligent about prayer. This is your conversation with God! Make it a good conversation.

Over in Acts 17:24 through 28, we're told that he needs nothing. But he wants you to reach for him and to find him. God reveals himself to you all the time through the created world around you. But he took the effort to speak to you, to share ideas with you, to connect with you through the written word, gathered through the centuries, so you would want to know him and want to talk to him.

Now it's your turn. The Vitality of Prayer is the connection it keeps open between you and God. You can pray to him because you know he is the faithful, loving creator. You can trust him with your good days and bad days because you know he cares.

Prayer is meant to be personal.

Join me for 12 weeks as we study prayers in the Bible and learn how to develop the capacity to grow and live in relationship with God through prayer.

  • The Bible uses lots of patterns. God shows us He had a plan for mankind before He created the Earth. He tells us to follow the patterns set out by faithful brethren. He gave Noah a pattern to follow for the Ark. God gave Moses a detailed pattern for the Tabernacle. Using God's word to establish a path for you to follow is a good thing. Today's episode looks at how to study in a way that you can find those patterns. Then it shows how to use the pattern for yourself or for others you may be trying to teach.

  • When you study your Bible you will sometimes come across a verse that is hard to understand on its own. The phrasing may be different from what you are used to. The verse may be talking about things normal for ancient times or first century time, but not at all normal for modern times. The words may just be weird!

Good thing God prepared His word to be timeless!

In today's episode Angela looks at several contexts that some have described as "being hard to understand what is meant". she walks through exploring the context to see how God fills in the blanks that may seem to be in one verse. Learn how to use the context to explain hard to understand verses or concepts. God is the best author and His own best commentator. Trust the context He has provided.

Scriptures looked at in the episode are:

  • Join Angela as she walks through how to see and note different layers in one context. This allows you to build layers into your own Bible study each time you come to the same context.

Angela looks at where Peter validates that there are some things in scripture that are hard to understand. That means you are not alone AND God understands that you may find it difficult sometime. Isn't that amazing?!

Study talks about how to use scripture writing to help you better comprehend what you are reading. Bible marking is explained as a way to help you retain what you have learned so when you come back to a scripture you start with a foundation of what you've already learned before.

Do you trust that the Bible is meant to be approachable and understood? I do!

Over the next 12 weeks we will explore different ways to approach Bible study - without the need of a degree from a Bible college, a huge library of commentaries, or the ability to read Ancient Hebrew or Greek.

God wrote it so could be understood by those who come seeking understanding. You should be able to trust that God is faithful in this way so you can be confident about being a Christian woman. Explore the scriptures that show this is what God intended, then dive in to learn how to learn about God the way God's people did.

Examples of what will be covered -

how to study the "noble Bereans" did in the book of Acts explore how God told the kings of Israel to learn His word how to study the way Jesus taught how to study using God's "outlines"

    and much more.

We will be diligent together about growing in grace and truth!

  • Take a #DiligentMinute to consider...

In Psalm 102:18 a promise is made to the afflicted that the message in the Psalm "will be written for the generation to come, that a people yet to be created may praise the Lord."

God was thinking of you, as part of the "generation to come" back then.

In John 17:20-21 we can read where Jesus prayed for you too.
He knew you, and other believers like you, were coming. He knew you needed God's word to find unity.

How precious a gift that Jesus would think of you enough to pray for you while He prayed for the disciples right in front of Him.

Live today like you are something worth mentioning by Jesus Our Lord.
Put away your doubts, and trust in His love and care for you.

    Enjoy!

Psalm 103:13-14 says that God shows compassion on those who fear Him and He is mindful that we are "but dust" (NASB).

He knows of your struggles. He always has. There is no mystery for Him.
Ephesians 3:11 tells us how Paul (ad you) fit into God's eternal plans.

    You are not an afterthought.
    He prepared for you.

So take a minute and thank God for His awareness and ask Him to help you as struggle through learning to walk in His ways one day at a time.

    Enjoy!

  • Whilt The Diligent Woman Podcast is on a break, take a #DiligentMinute to Know Your Value to the Lord.

Matthew 10:29-31 Jesus shares how the sparrow, which mankind doesn't value very much, is known to the Lord. He knows when EACH sparrow falls. And if He knows that about this tiny bird you can KNOW He is aware of what is happending to you and He cares.

Take a #DiligentMinute and meditate on what it means for you to trust that God truly does know and care about YOU.

Then give thanks to Him for the care and protection.

Be confident about God's care makes each day easier as you walk in His word. Knowing you matter to Him makes diligence a loving response instead of a burden to carry.

    Enjoy!

  • While The Diligent Woman Podcast is on a break, take a minute to appreciate God's everlasting love.

Jeremiah 31:3 held a glorious promise to a nation who had been rebellious against God. God shows that them that even now - after their turning away from him and their being sent into captivity to chastize them - God is working FOR them because He LOVES them.

We may fail God, but he NEVER fails us.

Trust in the One who is faithful.

Take a #diligentminute to praise God, seek forgiveness if you need it, and to rejoice in the love that allows you to do both.

    Enjoy!
