  • In this valuable ep, you're going to hear how being an outsider can spur you on to amazing things. How naivety and drive outweighs perfection. How true, fleixible working can transform a business. And what an inspiring human Jason Mitchell is!

Jason was just 29 when he set up the super successful The Connected Set thanks to his outsider-like thinking. And in this conversation with Kimberly he reveals how he has gone from 'wild card' to wildly happy running his production company. Not producing cookie cutter content :-)

But in this frank conversation, Kimberly draws out the vulnerable side of this successful CEO and Founder - how did he navigate the precarious career of a freelancer when you're 'only as good as your last reference'? Are Jews considered an under-represented group in TV? What's running a production company really like?

Features fun stories about The Island with Bear Grylls, buying loo roll for the office and the adrenalin rush of Curious' first paid development money landing in the bank.

  • An absolutely gorgeous episode featuring the breath of fresh air that is Editor Yasmine Almosawi. Hustling, hilarious, and completely herself after years of masking her true identity to be accepted, Yas is a talented, Emmy award winning Editor who has faced blatant discrimination, yet worked harder for it and given back to the industry. In this pod, she generously shares her experiences with Kimberly in the hope that others will feel empowered to call people out in the future, or support those it's happening to.

  • Jenny Popplewell is a huge name in documentary, but in this incredibly humble and revealing conversation, she tells Kimberly of her fight to be taken seriously as a director and how she's only just believing of her own success. This is a strong contender for most-whiplash-inducing episode of noddingly relatable content for Producers and Directors - or anyone wanting their career to move on and feels they are not being heard. Jenny has such important anecdotes and valuable advice, we are very grateful for her wise words.

  • You know those 'making of's on TV we all love so much? Well, adjust your expectations as this is hardly a behind the scenes of 'Blue Planet' ;-) but... Ever wondered how we landed on The Imposter Club as an idea, why we made this podcast in the first place, or who Kimberly’s dream guest would be? You can find out as well as hear some personal take outs from each guest’s story in this bonus, behind the mic conversation between Kimberly and her partner in crime - talent guru and podcast Exec Rosie Turner. You'll discover that some of the episode themes have hit home for very personal reasons, and there are a few laughs along the way too. Mouse or snake phobia, anyone?!

And that's a wrap for series 1! See you after a short break - but not before you've completed this list of easy peasy 2 minute things OK? Thanking you kindly...

  • We LOVE this episode for its pure candour & important themes. Kimberly deep dives into recently departed co-CEO of The Garden Nicola Hill's career which had a hard shunt from Drama to Factual after a bullying incident via unwavering work ethic, the juggle of family life and a cancer diagnosis. We think you will come away from this conversation feeling uplifted and determined to carve out a career and mindset like Nicola's.

  • This episode, Mr Big Brother & Sky Arts Phil Edgar Jones OBE bares his creative soul and lets out his inner imposter with an ever-curious Kimberly. Get to know the insecure boss behind TV landscape-changing-formats like The Big Breakfast and The Word (if you're really old), Big Brother (if you're quite old) and all things Sky Arts (if you're all ages!) - and find out what he would've done differently, and how to 'take it seriously, but wear it lightly'.

And yep, he does have a very famous daughter who acts. And nope, she doesn't get a mention in the podcast. Next time ;-)

  • Ever wondered what it's like to be on the creative coalface of a high profile Netflix access documentary series? This episode Kimberly extracts tons of upbeat take-out from experienced Showrunner and Executive Producer Kari Lia, who landed in London from California in her early career and had to learn how to navigate development, directing and Exec-ing as a 'very American, semi-brown' woman.

    TRANSCRIPT:

    KIMBERLY (HOST):

I dunno what I'm doing. Does anyone know ?

(music plays) 📍 all right. Let's go for this trail.

Hi, you found the imposter club. A safe place for people

working in TV and the creative industries. To finally admit. That we're all

    just winging it.

Phil Edgar Jones, Congratulations on the O B E.

    PHIL EDGAR JONES (GUEST):

I was thinking should I put it on my email signature? And

then I thought, no, you just look like a bit of a dick if you do that.

    KIMBERLY (HOST):

I'm Kimberly Godbolt. And what I've learned from my career,

directing TV series and staffing teams behind the screens is that spoiler

alert. More successful people than you ever realize. Still feel like a fraud.

    OLLY LAMBERT (GUEST)

You just fake it till you make it until you die. I think that's my motto.

    KIMBERLY (HOST):

... but you don't get to hear their stories.  That changes right here in this podcast

    STU RICHARDS (GUEST)

Don't say anything libellous. No, don't say anything libellous.

    KIMBERLY (HOST):

I'm talking to senior TV types about their own moments  of self doubt and failure.

    FARAZ OSMAN (GUEST)

It was a very difficult part of my career I'm never gonna be able to convince these people that I'm part of their club. That's why I might as well just hand in my membership card and get out of here.

    KIMBERLY (HOST):

    How deeply it's affected them....

    OLLY LAMBERT (GUEST):

I would wake up between five and five 30 in the morning with a sense of terror, like literal terror, , I would sob, - “this is too much, this is too big”

    KIMBERLY (HOST):

And ultimately what they've learnt in their pursuit of a successful, but also fulfilling creative career.

    STU RICHARDS (GUEST):

The more out of place, I felt, the more I've enjoyed it, to be perfectly honest.

    KIMBERLY (HOST):

Maybe we can file a thing or two away for future ref.

    PHIL EDGAR JONES (GUEST):

You're gonna make mistakes in your career. You're gonna make mistakes in life. But I don't regret anything because, uh, it, it taught me quite a lot about myself

    KIMBERLY (HOST):

So come and get comfortable being uncomfortable.

    KARI LIA (GUEST):

They want this to be Netflix's biggest documentary series of the year Of course. I mean, God, talk about the fear!

    KIMBERLY (HOST):

I can't wait to let you in to the Imposter Club

    STU RICHARDS (GUEST)

Nobody in this industry is worthy of that much respect. Apart from Alison Hammond

    KIMBERLY (HOST):

    Coming soon.

    PHIL EDGAR JONES (GUEST):

I'm already having imposter syndrome, thinking I'll be the worst guest you've ever had, and it'll be a massive disappointment.

    (both laugh)

-- Music ends. Trail ends --
