In this episode of the Kendra Maya Podcast, we dive into the ultimate purpose of being on Earth according to Himalayan Yoga. This episode of the Kendra Maya podcast is part of a series on the fundamentals of the human mind and its environment. Kendra Maya is a Himalayan Yogi from the ancient school of Yoga called Trilok Akhada.
She delves into the following questions:
What are the questions you can ask yourself to find your purpose (inspired by author Mark Manson)
What does death have to do with this?
What is the ultimate purpose?
Basically, some people are saying that its OK to kill yourself while obsessing over your purpose (in fact, it is one way to find what you truly want). While that is true, that we should do what we willing to kill ourselves for (and that which offers value to the world), it is important to note that you can't offer this value once you are dead.
So, if you want to sustainably pursue your purpose, your mental and physical well being should be the foundation. However, to get healthy, you got to ask yourself, what am I getting healthy for? What can I offer to the world once I have got this sorted?

In this episode of the Kendra Maya podcast, we cover the dynamics associated with making good decisions for oneself and those we care about. Kendra Maya delves into the following questions:
What is the effect of putting off a decision until later?
What is the most optimal approach towards making a good decision?
When is the best time to make key life-changing decisions?
At the core of optimal decision making is the ability to use logic, emotions and gut feeling in a way that will bring the best results for an individual and their community. It is easy to be biased towards pure logic or pure feelings, whereas in Yoga, meditation teaches a balanced approach towards optimal decision making by connecting to all three (and its divisions - what we know as the 9 chakras).
It is also crucial to know with certainty what one truly wants - not what your friends, family or your ancestors want of you - but what you want. And this clarity comes when we get in touch with our inner voice by terminating our brain chatter.

In this episode of the Kendra Maya podcast, we cover the role boundaries play in different kinds of relationships at home or at work. She delves into the following questions:
What are boundaries defined as ?
How do we know are boundaries are being violated?
How do we communicate these boundaries?
In so far as making boundaries are concerned, lack of them creates misunderstandings and can destroy relationships. When boundaries are crossed, one person maybe feeling entitled to something, for e.g. parents may feel entitled to the choice-making for their children. Boundaries are necessary to define clearly the role of each individual in the relationship. This can be based on domain expertise. For e.g. one person takes lead in the emotional reins of the relationship whereas the other manages the financial aspects.
In order to communicate boundaries, it is important to be open to understanding each other's perspectives as to why the boundary was crossed and how the other person's feeling were hurt.

In this episode of the Kendra Maya Podcast, Kendra Maya delves on how to stop negative self talk in a consistent and effective way. She specifically shares insights on:
What are the different approaches towards halting negative self-talk?
Why they don't really work?
What is the key to getting consistent and effective results ?
There are different ways that mindset coaches, psychologists and neurologists talk about halting negative self-talk. Ultimately, what has worked for me, and that I am inviting you to try for yourself, is the Yogic approach that goes to the root of the issue, instead of addressing the symptoms to ensure consistent results - a relaxed mind.

In this episode of the Kendra Maya podcast, the importance of honest communication with oneself is delved into. Kendra Maya specifically covers the following:
Where does great creative potential stem from?
What does communication have to do with creativity?
Why to honestly communicate with oneself?
Most of us are busy ignoring our emotional and/or physical pain. It is staring at us right between the eyes, but we ignore it, at the cost of not learning anything and staying "stuck" in life. The inability to communicate gently but firmly with ourselves about the pain that we are experiencing (to be able to do something about it) is killing our creative potential.
If you want to learn how to do that, with Himalayan Yoga, find me on Facebook at Yogasiddha Meenakshi, and lets have a chat. :-) We will soon be starting regular meditation courses focussed on Yogasiddhi - the Yoga of Accomplishment - in this case, for mastering honest communication with oneself.

The questions we discuss in this episode:
(00:00) Introduction
(1:01) What exactly is co-creation?
(3:25) In the context of Yog, how does co-creation happen?
(7:43) How does one get into the state where one can attract other people?
(12:30) What is conscious co-creation?
(20:45) How does co-creation occur in a relationship?
The basic foundation of being human is co-creation. The way to reaching is by looking beyond oneself and orienting oneself towards others. We can do this by asking ourselves, "who or what do I care about?" Once we go beyond "I", "me" and "myself", we are able to holistically contribute to others' lives in a genuine and sustainable way. The sustainability of the co-creation is dependent on a value exchange between the parties both ways.

In this episode of the Kendra Maya podcast, we talk about how to get out of the survival mode that is, in other words, feel a sense of connection with others as opposed to competition and fear. We cover the following questions:
What is the survival mode?
How does one stop living in survival mode?
What does a sense of purpose have to do with it?
Kendra Maya shares research done by psychologists at Cornell University and their insights on a sense of purpose as a resource or a positive asset. She also talks about the Japanese concept of Ikigai and finally, the Himalayan Yogic perspective on cultivating a sense of purpose.
In order to stop feeling isolated, we have to stop caring about "me", "my" and "myself" and instead orient ourselves towards others. Ask ourselves, who or what do I care about beyond myself. If you are interested in doing that in a guided way, you can get in touch with me at [email protected].

(26:26)What are the steps of the recovery journey?

So, moving on requires the individual to realise the old Sanskrit adage "Om malam gatah, akalikam prachalati", as Guru Pashupati says, which means, "shit happens, immediately move on." In this episode of the Kendra Maya podcast, we dive into the neuroscience behind meditation and the corresponding terms in Sanskrit for those brain states. Kendra Maya specifically covers:
Why is it important to meditate?
How does one meditate to improve brain state aka happiness?
"A wandering mind is an unhappy mind" is the conclusion of a study published in Science that conducted a study on 2200 adults (Killingsworth and Gilbert 2010). They demonstrated in this research that more than 50% of the respondents were unhappy and their feelings were disconnected to their actions throughout the day. The only time, they were happy were when they these two (feelings and doing) were connected i.e. when they were making love. This is where meditation can help; it can assist individuals in being present to what they are doing.
Meditation involves different parts of the brain that are collect, control and interpret data from all parts of the body. These brain parts can be altered depending on the type of meditation practice to improve memory retention, attention, focus, and overall cognitive function. Meditating consistently for as less as ten minutes can alter neural circuitry for long-lasting positive effects on mental and physical health.
Yogasiddhi meditation cultivates this skill-set.
In the next episode we will cover the types of meditation that enable relaxation, creativity and sleep. Stay tuned! Send us your questions about this at [email protected]. In this episode of the Kendra Maya podcast, we talk about the first steps towards cultivating emotional cleanliness. Kendra Maya delves into the following:
How are emotional triggers reinforced?
What is the most dangerous weapon used on the human mind?
In order to cultivate emotional well being, it is important to understand why things happen. For e.g., "why did this (=insert bad event) happen to me?" Having a true understanding of the cause helps in building resilience. This resilience built over time, ensures that we do not have to go through uncomfortable emotions (guilt, fear, anxiety) every time things change in life!
Yoga provides the know-how to control the mind.
Himalayan Yoga principles from the ancient 17,000 year old school - Trilok Akhada- are introduced in this podcast episode to better understand the meaning of mental and physical well-being and where illness stems from.
The next few episodes will go deeper into Yoga for mental and physical well-being. Please send us your questions on [email protected] on this topic.
