What comes to mind when you hear the word hypnotherapy? Relaxation, a deep sleep, or perhaps you're more of a sceptic and imagining being taken into a trance like state? Well in this episode, I'm joined by experienced Clinical Hypnotherapist, Sally Garozzo, and we're going to explore the practice of hypnotherapy and hear about how it could ease menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes, anxiety and sleep disturbances. Sally will help us to bust some myths about hypnotherapy, help us understand the benefits and learn exactly how it can help during the perimenopause and menopause years.
As well as being an award winning clinical hypnotherapist and an advanced rapid transformational therapist, Sally Garozzo is also the founder of the Menopause Mindset Hypnosis collection, the world's only powerful set of hypnosis recordings, specifically for menopause symptoms. She also helps people with insomnia inside her Sleep Superpower Academy.
In this episode
01:36 What is hypnotherapy and how does it work?
06:53 What happens to the body during hypnosis
08:33 The benefits of hypnosis during menopause
15:33 How to know if hypnotherapy is for you

Too often women living with disability are left out of the menopause and midlife women's health conversations, and as a result put their symptoms down to pre existing health conditions, not realising that they could be entering perimenopause or menopause.
In this episode, I’ll be talking to Emma Livingstone about navigating the menopause with a disability.
Emma Livingstone was born with cerebral palsy and had to give up work having seen a significant decline in her mobility in recent years, leading to several surgeries. It was her frustration at the lack of knowledge and understanding of cerebral palsy as a disability affecting adults that spurred her on to begin campaigning. And she founded Up, the adult cerebral palsy movement, to campaign for better support and services and give a voice to the adult cerebral palsy community. In this episode:
01:46 Why Emma founded Up
08:09 The impact of aging on Emma’s health
12:56 Experiences of the CP community with menopause
21:48 Untangling diagnoses
25:43 Recognising CP as an adult condition

Your pelvic floor is an incredibly important part of the body that very often doesn't get the attention it deserves. Incontinence, painful sex and constipation are all embarrassing symptoms of a weak pelvic floor. But on occasion, poor pelvic floor health can result in more serious issues such as prolapse. All of these issues are extremely common, particularly after pregnancy and childbirth. And they're absolutely treatable, but aren't openly discussed often enough. And many women suffer unnecessarily in silence rather than seek help. So I'm delighted to be able to speak today to author pelvic floor specialist and creator of the ABS system Kim Vopni.
Kim Vopni is a speaker and women's health educator known as the Vagina Coach. She is a certified fitness professional who became passionate about spreading information on pelvic health when she was pregnant with her first child.

Why is resistance training so important as we age, and how can we fit it into our busy lives?
In today's episode, I’m talking to personal trainer Kate Oakley, about how we can increase strength and protect our bones and joints and midlife, as well as finding ways to fit it into our day. Even if you only have five minutes to spare, we'll find out how the right kind of training can do more than just help you get through the challenges that come with menopause, but also be empowering and totally change your outlook on life.
Kate Oakley is the founder of Your Future Fit. She's always loved fitness and training, but it was a passion. She only turned into a career at the age of 50, after a 25 year career in HR, to help peri and postmenopausal women who are going through similar challenges to her. As a fully qualified personal trainer, Kate focuses on encouraging women to start with small habit changes to their exercise, gradually building up the consistency that is sustainable for the future.

So this episode is all about taking half an hour or so to give you the essentials on bone health and osteoporosis, so you know exactly what it's all about, and how we can reduce our risk of getting osteoporosis with some really practical tips. Joining me is Dr. Kate Bunyan.

Is it possible to slow down ageing? And how can we give ourselves the best possible chance to live a long and healthy life?
That's the topic I discuss in this episode with TEDx speaker, GP, lifestyle doctor and coach Dr. Alka Patel.
I first met Dr Alka two years ago when I interviewed her for our first ever Midlife Festival. What stuck with me is her mantra that our health is a ‘skill’ - she explained to me that health is not something we’re just given, it’s something we have to work at.
Join me as we dive into that more closely and hear Dr Alka’s tips for how we can all make compassionate lifestyle changes for a happy, healthy and long life.

In this episode, I'm going to be talking to menopause expert Dr. Emma Ping. The perimenopause and menopause can be a very turbulent time particularly for women with ADHD. We'll be talking about how the symptoms of ADHD can be exacerbated by fluctuating hormones and why so many women are diagnosed in midlife.
Dr. Emma Ping is passionate about offering women holistic, evidence based advice and support. She's a member of the British Menopause Society and International Menopause Society, and as a midlife woman herself has experienced symptoms of the perimenopause. She appreciates what a positive difference good advice and treatments can make to how you feel about your quality of life. Dr. Ping has a special interest in ADHD, particularly in women and how hormones influence symptoms. She works at Menopause Care with Dr. Naomi Potter.

In this episode I'm speaking to leading rheumatologist Professor Hasan Tahir, about just why we experience joint pain as we age, and what menopause has to do with it. We're going to discuss everything from common aches and pains right through to conditions such as degenerative disc disease, osteopenia, osteoporosis and fibromyalgia. I want to use this episode to help you understand more about how you can get the right diagnosis for you, plus the range of treatment options including standard pain relief and lifestyle measures, and when to know when it's time to seek more specialist help.
Professor Tahir is an award winning specialist in rheumatology, sports medicine and general medicine. He is a consultant at the Royal Free London NHS Trust with several private clinics, and is actively involved in the latest research and the use of new treatments in arthritis. He's been a TV presenter of Life Health Show, and is actively involved in humanitarian work overseas.

In this episode,I'm going to be talking to food coach and menopause expert Meera Bhogal, about how we can all cook our way to a happier menopause. We'll be talking about how many women can develop in midlife or discover they were suffering for years before with allergies and food intolerances, which can affect your quality of life during midlife and menopause. We'll also be discussing how through Meera's own personal journey with food allergies, she created a brand new healthy and nutrition rich food brand.
Meera Bhogal is the founder of the healthy food brand Meera's Made From Scratch, which she created after realising that much of the gluten and dairy free food she needed to eat contained far too much sugar. She's hugely passionate about raising awareness of menopause, especially within South Asian communities where it's often not spoken about openly.

In this episode, I'm going to be talking to yoga instructor, author and founder of Menopause Yoga Petra Coveney about how yoga can help with the symptoms of perimenopause and menopause. Yoga is now recommended by the NHS as there is evidence that it can help us manage mood swings, low mood and anxiety during menopause. So I wanted to speak to Petra to find out more about these amazing benefits and just why yoga is such a special practice. If you've never tried yoga before, or if you're a regular, I encourage you to listen to this fascinating conversation as Petra takes us through how we can incorporate yoga into our regular activity and the sorts of yoga poses that are going to be most beneficial for our symptoms.
Petra Coveney is the author of Menopause Yoga: A holistic guide to supporting women on their menopause journey and a member of the British Medical Society. She created Menopause Yoga and Wellbeing back in 2011, following her own difficult experiences of the perimenopause and based on years of research into yoga, nutrition, HRT herbal remedies, acupuncture, and much more to help her to alleviate painful and disruptive symptoms.

In this episode I'm excited to welcome back to the podcast Neurologist Professor Guy Leschziner. During my last conversation with Professor Leschziner, we looked at sleep issues during midlife and menopause, and this time we'll be taking a deep dive into the female brain, and the impact of our hormones lifestyle and environment on our brain health. I want to find out why so many of us midlife women often complain of developing symptoms, such as brain fog, headaches and migraines during this time of our lives. And stay tuned as we'll also be examining the latest research and evidence on how to protect our brain health and potentially reduce the risk of developing Alzheimer's and dementia, in midlife menopause and beyond.
Professor Guy Leschziner is a consultant neurologist and a Professor of Neurology and Sleep Medicine at King's College London. He is a published author with ongoing research interests in sleep disorders, including restless leg syndrome, and he's presented two series on the brain and sleep for BBC Radio. And you may also recognise him from The Secrets of Sleep on Channel 4.

In this episode, I'm delighted to be joined by celebrity hairdresser Michael Douglas. So many women experience hair loss and hair thinning during our midlife years and during menopause, which I know can really impact on self esteem. So this episode is an important conversation to have. We're going to be discussing what changes happen to our hair as we age and get Michael's expert advice on how to best protect, cut and style our hair. We'll also be discussing the treatment options that will and won't work to save us all wasting valuable time and money on products that don't make a difference and could even make things worse. You may have seen Michael on TVs This Morning, GMB or on The One Show over the years, or perhaps listened to him on his podcast making the cut, which he co hosts with his partner, TV presenter and menopause campaigner Davina McCall. Michael is on a mission to use his 30 years of experience to demystify the world of hair styling for women, empowering them with the tools, knowledge and confidence to style their hair quickly and without fast or hours spent in the salon.
In this episode
01:47 How does hair change in midlife? 4:00 Is hair loss inevitable? 9:00 Seeking professional help 12:00 Do products help? 15:08 Cuts and styling 18:01 Hair extensions 22:08 Going grey and embracing the grey 27:35 Dying hair 30:35 Talking about the menopauseAbout The Latte Lounge:

From the very first stages of planning this podcast over a year ago, there was one person I knew I had to interview. Professor Michael Baum is a British surgical oncologist who has dedicated his career to caring for women with breast cancer, and was honoured with the St Gallen Lifetime Achievement Award for the treatment of breast cancer in 2007, and the gold medal of the International College of Surgeons. During his career Professor Baum had a key influence on how breast cancer is now treated and manage co developing pioneering treatments, including one that replaces weeks of long treatment with just one shot of radiotherapy in a single 20 to 30 minute hospital visit. He is quite simply an inspiration in the world of women's health. And for regulars of the Latte Lounge, you'll also know that I'm lucky enough to call this wonderful man, my dad, and he's part of the reason I created the Latte Lounge. In this episode we're going to be exploring breast cancer and midlife and just how common it is looking at the latest treatment options, and how menopausal symptoms can impact recovery. Professor Baum is going to share his vast experience with us and explain how diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer has evolved over the years and just why he's optimistic about the future of breast cancer research.
In this episode
2:41 Professor Baum’s inspiration and career 6:16 How breast cancer treatment has evolved during his career 8:37 Current treatments and survival rates 13:20 Screening 22:00 Alternatives to screening 23:30 Advice for high risk women 26:50 Early diagnosis and risk 31:16 Does HRT cause breast cancer? 34:36 Treating breast cancer and menopause 40:53 The future of women’s healthAbout The Latte Lounge:

In this episode, I'm going to be talking to life coach and Olympian Michelle Griffiths Robinson. I first interviewed Michelle for the midlife Festival in 2021, all about self belief and confidence. And honestly, it was such an inspiring conversation that I knew I just had to have her back for this podcast. Michelle represented Great Britain for two decades as a triple jumper competing at the highest level, including at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta. She was the first woman to jump over 14 metres in the Commonwealth. Since then, she has combined her passion for fitness and personal growth and is now a coach and mentor for individuals and organisations. Today, we're going to be chatting all about positive mindset in midlife, how to avoid the comparison trap, how to get yourself out of a rut and feeling great about yourself, and what self care really means for us busy women. I promise you by the end of this conversation, when Michelle, you're going to feel energised, empowered, and excited about the possibilities in life.
In this episode
1:46 Michelle’s confidence journey 5:07 Coaching women through the menopause 8:00 Tools for regaining confidence 10:00 Choosing between acceptance and change 12:00 Committing to fitness 14:47 Embracing your personal style 16:37 Does size matter? 18:27 The sandwich generation 21:00 Avoiding the comparison trap 23:25 Taking care of yourself through difficult times 25:43 Establishing boundariesAbout The Latte Lounge:

In this episode, we're talking about relationships. And I'm so pleased to be joined by fitness coach and presenter Marvin Ambrosius and his wife, Stephanie, an experienced individual and relationship therapist. With the average age of divorce in this country being 45 to 55, we're going to be exploring all of the challenges that come with relationships in midlife, and tips on how to navigate through these to build stronger relationships with our loved ones. From the impact of perimenopause and menopause, on relationships, how to prioritise the relationship amongst the juggle of work, and parents and kids, as well as through life. And we'll also be looking at how men and women approach this phase of life differently, and why communication really is key.
Stephanie is a relationship therapist with over 14 years of experience. After growing up in an environment where marriage appeared to be very hard work, Stephanie became motivated to want to help people to find happiness, both within themselves and also with their partners. She currently works with individual adults and couples at all stages of relationship. Joining Stephanie is her husband, personal trainer and fitness presenter Marvin Ambrosius. You may know Marvin from the hit ITV television series, Eat Shop Save, and Sky TVs Fit in Five series. It was his own personal battle with losing weight that inspired him to help individuals with limited time in their day to still be able to work out and move closer towards their fitness goals.

In this episode, I talk to menopause clinician, author and podcaster Dr. Heather Hirsch, about the role of testosterone for women, especially in midlife, often misunderstood as just a male hormone. Testosterone can actually be the missing piece of the puzzle when it comes to our perimenopause and menopause symptoms. We'll be talking about what we need it for, how and why we lose it, how it can help with boosting libido, brain clarity and energy levels too, but also why it may not be right for everyone. And we'll also find out why it's hard to get it prescribed in the UK right now.
Dr. Hirsch is an internal medicine physician specialising in women's health and menopause care at the Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, USA. Her clinical work and research centres on inequalities or unanswered questions in the field of women's health, specifically menopause education, and she aims to help women experiencing symptoms of perimenopause and menopause to thrive in midlife.
In this episode
2:09 What is testosterone and why do women need it? 4:07 Where is testosterone made? 6:45 What happens to testosterone levels in women during menopause? 10:01 How do you receive testosterone if you need it? 14:08 Side effects and span of treatment 17:39 Problems in accessing testosterone 23:39 Inequalities in women’s healthcareAbout The Latte Lounge:
