  • A precious time having one of my best friends, Dallas James Pritt, on the podcast the week of his first single's release!! Dallas is a very vulnerable mental health advocate on top of his action-packed career as an actor, choreographer and singer.
His song, "Somehow (Beautiful to Me)" - composed and written by Joey Contreras - inspires hope while providing a vessel of emotional release and relatability. Dallas made sure that this song would be honest about the pain and insecurities he's faced along the way; and how those wounds became steps guiding him towards breakthroughs of joy and self-acceptance. Cannot wait for you all to enjoy this gift of a pure heart's truest expression through music.
There's also his short film "A Heart's Calling" that illuminates the experience of queerness in an often close-minded Christian environment. It is available to stream on YouTube.
I am so proud of you Dallas!

  • What a gift of time & presence with Valerie Jane Parker 💚
Valerie has a tangible exuberance for life! In this episode, she shares that her heightened expressions of joy were found after the deepest valleys of pain. As she puts it, “we don’t always get to choose in life what breaks us down, but we do get to choose how we rebuild.” And I can attest that Valerie is a marvel when it comes to rebuilding and choosing to focus on the good she wants to see, and in response, also creates 🤩🌟✨
Thank you Val for sharing your light with @thisistemporarypodcast 🥹💚

  • We live in the gray area. In uncertainty. Even though cognitive distortions may try to convince us, or have us trying to convince others, that things are black or white, it's really all shades of gray. This episode was filmed on a darker gray day, but it still was gray. It was a very tough, panic stricken day - but it was not all bad. I still went on a walk with my husband and enjoyed the company of my dog and some saltine crackers and sprite to calm by anxious stomach. Gray. And temporary, of course.

  • Happy Mental Health Awareness Month!
Showing up as you are in the present moment is enough. Your worth transcends any form of measurement. We are enough. In this episode, I share the past 6 months journey with transitioning back to living in the states, navigating panic disorder and anxiety and a newfound reassurance through the Human Design systems. I discovered I am a 3/5 reflector and also quite the introvert. We can handle what is in front of us. It helps to understand ourselves better so we can better advocate for our needs.
    You are not alone.

  • Meet Holly Zajur (ig: @hollyzajur )! She is a potter, a wellness educator, the creator of @ConnectWellness_ and sister to our previous guest Austin Zajur! Holly has been teaching and practicing yoga and mindfulness for over 7 years. In this episode, we talk about her experiences with stress, anxiety, learning to accept the things we cannot change, understanding the enneagram and wholeness. This episode was a joy to record because Holly is the real deal and she radiates the positivity, awareness and compassion that she practices. Embrace her phrase, "stop should-ing yourself" and "trust that you are more important than the work that you do." You're more than enough as you are!

  • Meet Anjelika Washington (@anjelikaw) & Blake Spears (@blake.tv)! Anjelika is a passionate actor, producer, director, activist and humanitarian. Blake is a producer & CEO at @scattv and the hilarious Granny B (character actor). In this episode, we dive into Anjelika and Blake's personal mental health experiences and their advocacy for therapy, as well as mental health in the Black community, BLM and more! This was an enlightening conversation to destigmatize all the areas of life that beg for more understanding, communication, accountability and compassion. Anjelika and Blake are wonderful examples of the vulnerability, kindness and courage required to be and see the change this world deserves. I am so grateful these two beautiful humans took the time to share their empowering and honest insight with me and all of you!

  • Meet T.C. Matherne (ig: @t.c.matherne)! He is an extraordinary actor, co-creator of the @latco_comedy improv school and theatre and host of his new captivating podcast @passion.buffet . T.C. and I met at a director's callback for a film (that he booked!) and his talent stood out to me more than anyone's. In this episode, T.C. opens up about growing up with a good life but feeling like a sad kid without many interests. He's always wrestled with depression and anxiety, but he found what would help him cope when he discovered improv comedy. Improv teaches us to face our fears/anxieties, to express and accept ourselves authentically and to be present. These are all things that help with our mental health! T.C. mentioned that as adults, we forget how to embrace our childlike hunger to learn and play because we're too afraid to fail; but it's the courageous action of confronting our fears where we find healing, trust, growth and fun.
P.S. Catch him now in @Antebellumfilm that just came out!

  • Meet Charlene (IG: @Iamgcharlene)! She is a mental health advocate and the founder of the platform @WeAreSelfHealers! This episode and time with Charlene was so precious and healing. Charlene opened up about her life experiences with depression, grief, joy, traveling the world and empowerment found in inner child healing work. She even shared with us an exercise that helps to connect us with our inner child! Her healing journey has taught her to challenge the negative thought processes - to notice the internal cycle of judgment and shame, then gently set kinder thoughts into action. Charlene emphasizes our choice in what we want to do in response to the hardships we face. If we can start to trust the process, then we gain the perspective that our circumstances exist to help us grow. She is a beautiful soul and an inspiring example of hope, forgiveness, compassion and grace. Here is a link to Charlene's ebook, gratitude workbook and more: https://linktr.ee/weareselfhealers

  • Meet Aaron Mirtes (IG: @aaronmirtes)! He is an independent film writer and director as well as a wonderful artistic collaborator and dear friend of mine! In this episode, Aaron opens up about everything from his anxiety (which fixated on his health) and his struggles with phobia disorder and emetophobia (fear of vomiting) to his valid frustrations with social media shaming culture and what overall coping mechanisms help him best. What’s served Aaron’s journey towards healing is his practice of actively showing up and simply expressing himself. After all, experience yields confidence and trust in ourselves and our ability to persevere, while talking and processing through our emotions produces a deeper understanding of ourselves and others. I've loved seeing how Aaron takes power over his phobias and anxiety through humor and by implementing elements of them into his films!

  • Meet Johnny Webster (ig: @JustJohnnyWebster)! He is a talent manager and facilitator of dreams. Johnny exudes JOY and he's created @JustBlackBoyJoy - a fun space dedicated to celebrating that joy with others! Great joy comes from knowing great pain. In this episode, we talk about Johnny's journey with depression, anxiety, addiction recovery and mental health in the Black community. This wild year forced Johnny to ask himself, "What fear am I living in that is blocking me from being my authentic, loving and joyful self?" Life is especially uncertain right now - but that uncertainty doesn't have to be negative. We have to live less in fear and more in excitement, risk and hope. To find your joy in the midst of it all, Johnny suggests doing what you love to do just to enjoy your own laugh and smile!
