  • It was a ton of fun on the Top Cheddar podcast as Shaun Peet joined Lolly and Mooner to chat about his hockey journey from the BCHL to the Calder Cup and how that journey led to his new career in Nascar Racing!

Shaun Peet played in the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) with his hometown Nanaimo Clippers and the Penticton Panthers.  From there, he secured a scholarship to Dartmouth College and played four years.  After he graduated from Dartmouth, Peet played 7 years of professional hockey.  He played in the Western Professional Hockey League, East Coast Hockey League, Central Hockey League, Southern Professional Hockey League and the American Hockey League.  That included a run to the Calder Cup (AHL Championship) with the Wilkes-Barre Penguins in 2000-01.

While on a hockey suspension, a chance meeting led to an opportunity to tour the inner workings of Nascar. Well, one thing led to another and soon a new career path was on tap for Shaun. That work also led to being in the movie Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby

In addition to coaching in NASCAR, Peet is also an author, motivational speaker, and business consultant with DECK Leadership, who inspires the modern workplace through pit crew strategies.

  • Kevin Sawyer played 8 years of professional hockey, including time in the National Hockey League with the St. Louis Blues, Boston Bruins, Phoenix Coyotes, and Anaheim Ducks.  He also spent time in minor pro, playing in the American Hockey League and the International Hockey League.  In junior, he played with the Spokane Chiefs of the Western Hockey League.

After his playing career came to an end due to injury, Kevin got into coaching.  He went back to his junior team and became an Assistant Coach with the Spokane Chiefs.  When coaching came to an end, broadcasting became a new opportunity.  Kevin started with some Spokane Chiefs television broadcasts and that eventually turned into working with the WHL on SHAW TV.  After a few seasons of doing WHL games across Western Canada, he landed his current job on the TSN broadcasts of the Winnipeg Jets.

  • Mooner goes Top Cheddar! This episode, we dive into the behind the scenes of how Cam Moon, our beloved co-pilot of the Top Cheddar show, became the new radio voice of the Edmonton Oilers.

He paid his dues for over 20 years in the WHL as the voice of the Red Deer Rebels and finally got his well deserved big shot. And that shot came in a hurry.

Along with what the first couple weeks have been like, Cam shares the story of being traded multiple times his one year in Junior in a way that some call it the Cam Moon rule. A great story you’ll want to hear.
