In this last episode of Whiskey Noobs, I go out on one of my favorite types of episodes: listener Q&A. And then, of course, I explain the ending of the show, where to go from here, etc. Thank you all so much for the journey these past few years. Cheers.

Finding the right pairing for a cigar or whiskey is no small task. Sometimes the pairing turns out to be exactly what you expected, but that is often not the case. In this episode, I walk through all of the lessons I have learned so far from having three pairings per week over the course of the past few months. If you'd like to listen to me discussing those pairings in depth, check out the Perfect Pairing Podcast! Finally, I walk through a pairing of Dewars 12yr and a Brickhouse Maduro Cigar

I am a big fan of French Oaked bourbons. Such a fan, in fact, that I currently have three of them: Maker's Mark No. 46, Penelope Architect, and Nulu French Oak. I wanted to know which one I TRULY liked the most, so I put them head to head in a blind tasting.

Whiskeys such as Bourbon, Scotch, Rye, and Irish Whiskey are often made from some combination of four main grains: barley, wheat, corn, and/or rye. Each of these brings their own flair in terms of the flavor profile, so what exactly should you expect? In this episode I walk through four examples, and give my experience with each.

Chase Hazelbaker from Prohibition Craft Spirits knows a thing or two about the sourced whiskey industry. While PCS may have started with mostly clear spirits, Chase's love for bourbon hunting made him want to get into the bourbon game. In this episode we break down the roots of Prohibition Craft Spirits, NULU Bourbon, and using sourced whiskey to create a high quality flavor profile.

The most honest possible whiskey review: a blind tasting. In this episode, I walk through my honest thoughts about Jim Bridger Bourbon, and let me tell you, I was SHOCKED at the big reveal. This whiskey is far more unique than I realized, but what is it worth? You'll have to listen to find out!

It's one of the most common questions I get about whiskey: what is the best palate cleanser for a whiskey tasting? In this episode, my guest noob, Justin, and I put yet another one to the test: coffee. We do a full review of Bowman Brothers Small Batch, and then we try out some peaty scotch followed by some coffee to see if it fixes our palates - listen in to find out what works best!

Ah, yes. The timeless debate: does water make whiskey better? Should you add it? If so, HOW do you add it? What type of water should you add? In this episode, I break it all down. From what is chemically happening when you add water to whiskey, to what changes with the experience, to an actual whisky tasting with Ardbeg 10yr, both with and without water.

Yes, this episode is about spitting vs swallowing. Yes, I know how that sounds. But seriously... does spitting out a whiskey tasting change the flavor that you get from it? Or, in order to provide a proper review, must you swallow the whiskey? For years, folks in the spirits tasting industry have claimed they can get a good review without actually swallowing the whiskey. In this episode, I put that to the test with a full review of Dalmore 12yr Single Malt Scotch Whisky (while spitting out the whisky), followed by a re-review without spitting.

Bourbon whiskey has a rich history in the United States. Walk along the bourbon timeline with me as I break down some of the major events that have impacted the landscape today, from the first pilgrims bringing over their distilling techniques, to the whiskey rebellion, to prohibition, to the cause of the massive bourbon bubble/explosion/renaissance we are seeing today.

Since it's Dry January, let's talk about a different hobby: movies. Well... movies AND whiskey. Troy Bolotnick and Charlie Flint are two long-time friends who started as movie writers and actually did what so many of us like to talk about - they started their own whiskey brand, after years of dreaming about it while touring the Kentucky Bourbon trail. Their brand, Filmland Spirits, has a very unique take on whiskey: each bottle has it's own movie. Stick around to hear all about whiskey, favorite movies, and more. Follow Filmland Spirits on Instagram at @filmlandspirits.

The age old cousin of whiskey - cigars. Since we can't have whiskey during Dry January, Justin and I walk through a full tasting of the CAO Brazilia as well as the basics of cigar smoking. Tune in for everything from lighting the cigar to licking (?) the cigar to flavor notes.

Have you ever wondered what whiskeys go the best with Christmas cookies? In this episode, my guest Noob, Zack, and I, put in the hard, grueling work to find that out. We taste a bourbon, scotch, rye whiskey, and finished rye (and even a surprise Irish Whiskey) along with Christmas cookies in order to see how different cookies affect the flavors of the whiskey. In the end, we draw some conclusions about what you can do to avoid wasting your whiskey with a bad pairing.
