Damon Wilson is in his 11th year at the helm of the Bowie State University football program. Wilson, who was an all-conference tight end for the Bulldogs (1998), did his first tour of duty as an assistant coach from 1999-2003. As the Assistant Head Coach (Running Backs and Special Teams Coordinator) during those years, BSU’s special teams and running game consistently ranked at the top of the conference. During Wilson’s first run at Bowie State, the Bulldogs combined an overall record of 26-24 and they were able to bring home a CIAA Eastern Division Championship in 2002.
Led by reigning CIAA Coach of the Year Damon Wilson, Bowie State finished 2019 with an 11-1 overall record (7-0 in the CIAA) with their lone loss coming in the first round of the NCAA Division II playoffs against Carson-Newman. Fayetteville State, coached by Richard Hayes, also posted a 6-1 conference record (8-3 overall), finishing 10th in Super Region Two for the second straight year in 2019.
The 2021 team features 21 returning players from the 2019 All-CIAA team, including 12 first-teamers, led by Bowie State quarterback Ja’Rome Johnson, Bowie State defensive back Demetri Morsell, and Virginia Union placekicker Jefferson Souza. All three players earned CIAA Player of the Year honors for their respective units during the 2019 season.

We all grew up with something to worry about. Will the person I like, like me back? What will I wear on the first day of school? Who will I sit with at lunch? At 15 it seemed like we had a new worry each and every day.
Imagine, among all of those worries, if one included being publicly humiliated while going through airport security.
At 15, Jamii Erway experienced just that when a TSA agent at Raleigh-Durham International Airport asked her to expose her genitals in a strip search to confirm her gender.
When I read this, I was HOT! The research I did following this discovery only made me hotter. This episode of Culture Flash, I get into this country's lack of protections for trans youth, and how people who participate in this type of heinous discrimination are often backed by state and local legislation.
With the time I had, I could only scratch the surface but we made sure to include some resources you can check out to see your rights as a queer or trans person in your state. Check them out if you’re interested, and share with others! Knowledge is power, y’all!

No stranger to creativity, artist Braylyn "Resko" Stewart has independently gained success that most self-made artists spend lifetimes striving for. Born a natural artist in the city of Youngstown, OH, Braylyn eventually found himself in Louisville where he has lived for many years as an artist. Braylyn holds no boundaries to artistic medium - easily transitioning from paint, to pen, to spray paint, working both on a small scale and on large murals. Braylyn is also one of the creators of the "Say Their Names" mural located on 11th and Main in Louisville Ky. The mural has been featured world wide including NY times and Hulu documentaries. Painting a painful history. Sandra Bland, George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and many others. This mural is meant to capture the attention of those who walk or drive by it. The mural stands for the past and what he and so many others want for the future.
