  • "The Case For..." - a series within a series where I break down Black Sci-Fi and Fantasy to see if it is indeed Afrofuturism!

"Sleight is a 2017 American film about a young street magician with unique abilities trying to survive the tough streets of Los Angeles. Directed by J.D. Dillard the film follows a young man named Bo (portrayed by Jacob Latimore) who is left to care for his younger sister Tina (Storm Reid) after losing his mother a few years earlier to unknown reasons. The movie picks up during the day with Bo working as a street magician showcasing his amazing skills with card tricks."

  • Peace and light melanated earth beings, welcome to the Afrofuturist’s Podcast! The premiere podcast for Afrofuturists! I am your host PT Stardust coming to you live and in technicolor from the third rock from the sun!

In this extra special episode, we get down to the basics, on what Afrofuturism is and why I am making a podcast about it! Now let’s start the show!

    What is the Podcast about?
This podcast was started because I haven’t found any specific outlets that were discussing Afrofuturism on a consistent basis. I got inspired to create a platform to showcase Afrofuturism media and highlight its use in pop culture. Every week I will produce content reflecting every possible aspect of Afrofuturism!

    What is Afrofuturism?
So if you have been paying attention you can probably guess that I am extremely passionate about Afrofuturism! Afrofuturism is the matching of futuristic aesthetics with African and African-American culture. It is a subgenre found in art, literature, music, and more recently television and film. The most notable Afrofuturists are musicians like Sun-Ra, Parliament, and Janelle Monae. However it is incorporated in nearly every artists work. Additionally, I classify projects that revolve around horror and fantasy tropes in it as well.

Why is there a need for the podcast?
Like I stated before, there hasn’t been any consistent coverage of this topic. Sure there is the Black Nerd or “Blerd” movement, however it's a very broad movement where they discuss mainly mainstream content and hardly cover any content centered around Blackness. So I decided to create a niche platform to really get into detail of Afrofuturism.

What to expect from the podcast?
Each episode of the podcast will be split into different segments, the first being the weekly recommendations on what Afrofuturist media to consume for the week (give an example), as well as the superhero of the week, and lastly the Afrofuturist topic of the week!

Not only that, I will be producing mini-documentaries, movie reviews, as well as curating playlists centered around Afrofuturism. This podcast will be available on Itunes, Google play, Soundcloud, Youtube and Anchor.fm and you can follow the podcast on social media @AfroFuturePod and the website will be launching soon!
