[Rebroadcast] Hello friends! Thank you so much for joining us on this episode of 2 Dads 1 Car. Our very special guest today is Scott Young, a Wall Street Journal best-selling author of âUltralearning: Outsmart the Competition, and Accelerate Your Careerâ, and his new book, âGet Better at Anythingâ. Not only is Scott an influential thought leader in productivity and learning, but he is also a dedicated father to a young boy and girl! I would also like to give a huge shoutout to Cal Newport for helping make this connection and this episode a reality.
Drawing upon his research in learning and productivity, our conversation centers around the importance of understanding the unique and distinct ways in which our children approach learning. Whether it be building fundamental skills or taking an organic approach through discovery, Scott shares his own childhood experiences, and how they nuance his mindful approach towards fatherhood. For the parents, Scott also offers insights into parent guilt, and how parents can use those emotions to build better systems of life management and problem-solving. Ultimately, Scott emphasizes the value of encouraging his children to intrinsically enjoy what they do, and develop enthusiasm not only in the practice of their craft, but in the process of getting there.

âI became an Indigenous status member around 35, and thatâs when I started to really appreciate my identity. Iâm very thankful for it now seeing my daughters who are a quarter Indigenous, a quarter German, and half Chinese, growing up and not struggling with that identity at school.â
In this weekâs episode of 2 Dads 1 Car, we speak with Thomas Claus, husband of a good friend of mine, and father to three young daughters.
In our conversation, Thomas begins by discussing his intersectional experiences growing up half-German, half-Indigenous, and how navigating his identity through childhood has both allowed him to take a more thoughtful approach to his growth as a person, and to his childrenâs growth and cultural journey today. On the parenting front, Thomas speaks about the collaborative nature of effective parenting with his wife, and about striking the correct balances when we speak about love, discipline, and leadership.
