  • OUTWEIGH: Amy and Leanne are back for our final episode of this series where they dive deep into the science of (what feels like) food 'addiction' within your own brain. They'll explore the role of the ACC, your "social brain," and its powerful need for oxytocin, the love and connection hormone. Learn why your brain might crave sugar, Netflix, or other "drugs" when it's really seeking deeper connection. This episode dismantles the myth of willpower and exposes the emotional root of your struggles. Discover how to replace the "fake connection" with genuine connection and emotional support, leading you towards lasting change and true nourishment for your soul.

  • Amy first met Nada Taha 11 years ago during Nada's time on The Bobby Bones Show...so it's fun to catch up with someone that longtime listeners will know! Nada is a fellow cat lady that is outspoken about everything — marriage and divorce, being a female entrepreneur, mental health, and more!

    Amy & Nada chat about:

Nada's TEDx Talk: Why "What do you do?" is the wrong question

Marrying young (Nada got married at 18) and divorce

Will either of them ever get married again?

Nada's trip to Egypt to better understand her roots

The work Nada has done to be vulnerable, real, authentic

Crying is good (Nada's infamous airport bathroom breakdown)

    Evolving, energy & manifesting

You don't have to pick a lane (pursue all your passions, at once, despite societal norms)

Using anger and strength to build your story

Working through the past to strive in the now

Still figuring it out (it = this whole “life” thing)

    4 Things Gratitude

Since Nada's time on the BBS, she's started two creative services agencies, hosted Soundcheck Radio and The Country Chart Show for Apple.

  • A listener named Val sent us a great email full of amazing quotes that guided Amy's chat with Kat for this episode. Val divided them into 2 categories: serious & funny...we appreciate both (they're all listed below) and in addition to the quotes Kat played a round of "Make It Or Break It" with Amy (to see what she's down with when it comes to dating!)

    SERIOUS:

    - The tighter we cling to an identity, the harder it becomes to grow beyond it.

    - I have already lost touch with a couple of people I used to be

    - You will find that it is necessary to let things go; simply for the reason that they are heavy.

    - Buy less, choose well.

    - We all eat lies when our hearts are hungry

    - Just because you don't look like somebody who you think is attractive doesn't mean you aren't attractive. Flowers are pretty, but so are Christmas lights and they look nothing alike.

    - Everyone you meet always asks if you have a career, are married or own a house as if life was some kind of grocery list. But no one ever asks if you are happy.

    FUNNY:

    - I've moved past having a depressive episode. I am actually having a depressive series. Season 8 available now.

    - I'm not a licensed interior designer but I just figured out you can make a room look 30% bigger if you put away the 14 loads of laundry on the floor.

    - Neighbor said hi again...I'm just gonna move.

    - Lucky for me, I don't have enough friends for an intervention

    - I don't understand your specific kind of crazy, but I do admire your total commitment to it.

    - My room is not dirty. I just have everything on display...like a museum.

    - Some of you youths are going to be really disappointed when you discover that turning

    - 30 just means that you still have all the same weird interests but you can't turn your head all the way to the left anymore.

    - Hey, sorry for being so anxious earlier, I had no idea that everything would be fine.

    - I keep telling people that a vanilla soy latte is technically a three bean soup, but nobody understands. They just nod and smile like I'M the crazy one.

    - I found out why I'm still single. Apparently, you have to go outside and let people see you.

  • OUTWEIGH: Amy and Leanne are back for Part 4 of Binge-Free Brain where they explore the mind-blowing connection between emotional and physical pain. Did you know a key area of your brain, the ACC, houses a large number of receptors for both? This means emotional hurt can literally feel like physical pain, which can trigger us to seek comfort in food. We'll delve deeper into the concept of "sensory mismatch" and how it relates to fibromyalgia and other conditions. This episode will unveil the surprising reasons why emotional distress might manifest as cravings, helping you develop more effective coping mechanisms for lasting change.

  • Amy starts off with '4 Things Gratitude' sharing with you 4 things she's currently thankful for & hopefully through her gratitude you'll learn about some things to check out & then she shares some words of wisdom from Ally Fallon that will lead living life with more purpose & confidence.

FIRST THING: She's selling her house & here's the YouTube video she references "Declutter Your Home: The Ultimate Guide to Selling Fast | How to Get Rid of Your Stuff." (this is helpful for anyone...not just if you're selling your home!)

SECOND THING: Amy changed the energy of her home to an 8. What does that mean?? Well, read this Address Numerology blog that Amanda wrote and listen to this episode where Amanda told Amy about why she needs to change her home from a 2 to an 8 and it will all make more sense!

THIRD THING: Amy has felt so pulled together lately thanks to her new Yellow Rose by Kendra Scott jewelry. All of the pieces are so cute, cowgirl vibes & ranch inspired because 'country is cool again!' Girls trip to Austin anytime soon? Go by the Yellow Rose store hat bar and get custom hats to always remember the trip....so fun!

FOURTH THING: Ally Fallon's book launch party was on Tuesday night, so Write Your Story: A Simple Framework to Understand Yourself, Your Story, and Your Purpose in the World is officially out in the world and ready for people to read. Donald Miller read his forward for the book at the party and I loved his opening lines: "Years ago, I met a psychologist who gave me some advice about choosing friends. She said this: 'choose people who have a story to tell, rather than those who tell stories.'" Such a good quote. Ally feels strongly that writing our stories helps us understand ourselves so we can live with more purpose and confidence.

FUN FACT: Ally's Write Your Story Podcast is on Amy's network, so she's highlighting an episode that Ally put up last month that further dives into why writing our stories is so helpful....even if we never plan on anyone else reading it. This is such a good listen If you feel like you’re telling the same story over and over again....like the details may change (new boss, new partner, new hometown) but the cycle of the story keepings repeating itself.

  • OUTWEIGH: Ready to understand Binge Eating from the perspective of the female brain specifically? Part 3 of Binge-Free Brain dives into the fascinating science of the female brain. Did you know the Anterior Cingulate Cortex (ACC) plays a crucial role in our desire for connection, and when that need isn't met, it can lead to bingeing? We'll explore the key brain regions that differ between men and women, explaining why women are actually MORE susceptible to emotional eating. This episode will empower you to see binge eating as a response to unmet needs -- NOT a personal failing -- paving the way for a more compassionate and effective approach to healing.

  • There’s no such thing as having it all. Every success takes sacrifice. Amy’s guest today is actress, singer, song-writer, wife & brand new mom, Mackenzie Porter! With her packed career and being in entertainment, Mackenzie definitely asked herself: “Can I have a baby and continue my work?” (a thought none of us should have, but we most certainly do!) This leads to a quote from Shonda Rhimes that we love: “Whenever you see me somewhere succeeding in one area of my life, that almost certainly means I am failing in another area of my life.” Her point being there’s no balance or “having it all” because perfection is impossible and we need not have those standards or be expected to do it all…just work hard and do our best where we are in each moment.

Mackenzie grew up on a bison and cattle ranch in Canada….so obviously Amy asks her if she knows the Bison Storm Analogy! They also talk about how Mackenzie started taking piano, violin and singing lessons at just 4-years-old, her acting career (Amy loved the show Travelers she was in on Netflix a while back), what it’s like to work with actors and other singers, shooting her shot with Walker Hayes, her new album ‘Nobody’s Born With a Broken Heart’ + songs on it, how writing is therapeutic, not comparing ourselves to others on social media & 4 Things Gratitude: Mackenzie shared 1) what she’s thankful for today, a show she’s obsessed with, a song she loves and a drink that’s been bringing her joy during this season of life!

  • Amy & Kat share recent highs & lows from their lives...this leads to convos about grace, humanity (the light & dark side of it), cookies, 'The Gayle Tuck', how Amy's daughter wants a flip phone (so Gen Z of her) and more!!

Amy shares 2 quotes in this episode:

    1. “Twenty years from now, the only people who'll remember if you worked late are your kids.” ―Unknown

    2. “Even if you’re on the right track, you will get run over if you just sit there.” —Will Rogers

  • OUTWEIGH: Feel like your mind and your thoughts are holding you hostage when it comes to eating when you're not even hungry? Part 2 of our Binge-Free Brain series tackles the surprising truth: your beliefs about food are shaping your habits, not the other way around. • Changing up small habits in your day can create big changes in your life (this is the power of conscious neuroplasticity) & that's the first thing that Amy gets into with her guest (who is also her cousin) Amanda Reiger Green.

Then the second thing they get into is wild...Amanda explains 'Address Numerology' (a way to change the energy of your home through numbers. i.e. Amanda tells Amy what number to use to sell her house since she's about to put it on the market, and then what number to use to make her new house feel more organized!)

Speaking of organization...the third thing is about cleaning out closets (and making space in your mind) because Amanda was finally able to go through her mom's clothes (she passed away over a year ago) and donate them to the right person.

Fourth thing is CONNECTION (and the importance of it) so if you're in Austin...check out Amanda's Live 'Soul Sessions' Podcast Event (May 7th) for an evening of empowerment, connection, inspiration, and healing! Amanda will be doing live psychic readings, answering Q&A, and helping people gain clarity on their purpose and meaning.

  • Do you believe in signs from the other side? Amy does & her guest, Gracie Moakler, has a powerful story about a message she recently received from the other side. It's so clear that God was using this sign (from Gracie's sister) as a way to bring comfort and peace when it was very much needed. Amy also shares a message she got from her mom a few days ago (via a cardinal) that was very comforting as well. Side note: Go listen to Kacey Musgraves' song Cardinal ASAP if you haven't listened to it yet...it's so good!! If you don't believe in signs...well don't worry...they chat about other things too!

Gracie is the founder of Emergency Confetti, a mom of 2, and wife to her sweet husband Steve...she wears a lot of hats and at times she wonders what she's gotten herself into. Being a small business owner comes with challenges...but if you want the garden...you've got to pull the weeds (fave quote from the episode!) Gracie has had to learn to expand + to not make her business her identity (i.e. separating herself from hard situations like taking out a big loan to make aforementioned expansion possible) + to not compare herself to other moms/business owners on social media.

Gracie & Amy also talk about they're attempt at little to no clothes shopping this year + joy vs. happiness + 4 things gratitude (Gracie shares a book, a show, a drink and an IG follow that she's thankful for...so maybe there's a 'recommendation' in her gratitude that you'd enjoy!)

  • OUTWEIGH: Leanne is back to continue the conversation from last week and dives deeper into the question of "Does it ever get easier?". She argues that restrictive diets and intense exercise plans create a cycle of difficulty and ultimately fail because they train your brain for "hard work" instead of training it for"ease."

This week Leanne literally shares a step-by-step checklist for how you can make sure your brain is focusing on creating "ease" by practicing behaviors that are enjoyable, sustainable, and create a sense of freedom. You can take this "checklist" of practices that cultivate ease (flexibility, consistency, happiness) contrasted with practices that reinforce difficulty (control, pain, guilt) to make sure that YOUR brain is set up for success.

By understanding these two categories (when your brain is practicing EASE vs. when your brain is practicing HARD), you can choose the path of least resistance which leads to lasting change and a more peaceful relationship with food and your body.

  • OUTWEIGH: On this week's episode of Outweigh, Leanne tackles a question on every woman's mind stuck in the diet-and-weight-loss cycle: "Does it ever get easier?" Leanne challenges the idea of quick-fix diets and restrictive plans, arguing that they simply create more of the yo-yo effect that you're desperate to break free from AND leave you feeling like a prisoner in your own body.

Instead, she proposes a different approach: focusing on the "why" behind your struggles with food and body image. By becoming a master of your thoughts and habits, you can break free from the "diet mentality" and start creating sustainable change. The episode offers a seed of hope, suggesting that true ease comes from changing your thinking, not through sheer willpower and deprivation.
