  • Psychologists call it contamination theory. When something pure comes into contact with something threatening — even at trace levels — we consider the whole thing spoiled. Researchers are now finding the same response in how audiences value creative work that involves AI.

In this episode, I walk through a recent University of Chicago study where participants bid real money for art prints at different levels of AI involvement: 100% human, 1% AI-assisted, 30% AI-generated. The result was striking. The penalty for 1% AI involvement was nearly identical to the penalty for 30%. The contamination response isn't proportional. It doesn't respond to information. And across multiple studies spanning 2023 to 2026, better AI technology didn't change it.

We also get into what this means practically for creators. Audiences consistently pay a premium for work that carries evidence of irreplaceable human time and effort. Those same audiences now expect a level of polish that AI tools produce. Both things are true at once, and there's no clean way through it.

What are we actually protecting when we resist AI in creative work? Quality? The studies suggest probably not, since the work can be identical. Something harder to name — proof that a specific person chose to spend finite time on something they didn't have to.

This episode doesn't resolve the tension. It tries to name what's underneath it.

  • "I Was Breaking the Internet. Then My Brain Broke First."Why is everyone generating so much content than ever before?

Today, millions of creators are using AI to produce content faster than humans can consume it, leading to "Content Shock."

Episode Description: I Was Breaking the Internet. Then My Brain Broke First.

We are currently living through the loudest, fastest, and most saturated era in human history. Every second, millions of determined creators, powered by AI, are frantically churning out infinite content, all competing for a shrinking slice of your attention. They are shouting louder, optimizing faster, and yes, "breaking the internet."

But while content might be infinite, human capacity is not. In this episode, we explore the quiet catastrophe occurring on the other side of the algorithm: a profound, physical failure of the audience to keep consuming.

I’ve been on both sides. I know the seductive, frantic energy of chasing that "break the internet" moment. I know how it feels when your output is unstoppable. But I also know what happens next. My brain broke first.

This isn’t a forecast about a future "apathy"; it’s a post-mortem on the "Maxed Out" audience of 2026. Join me for a contemplative, deeply personal, and ultimately empowering look at "Content Shock."

    We will discuss:

The "Loudness War": Why creators are shouting into a void that is already full. The Physical Limit: Why a single human brain simply cannot process infinite churn. The Great Retreat: Inside the silent, powerful, and necessary audience flight from the noise.Finding Sanity: Practical strategies for rebuilding your own attention filters and reclaiming your mental sovereignty.

The frantic race to out-produce the machines is a race to the bottom. In an age of infinite automated clutter, the winners of the next decade won't be the ones who produced the most; they’ll be the ones who dared to stay human.

    In this memo:

The "Type 3" Distraction: Why some public behaviors feel like a "system failure" rather than a simple annoyance.Unclosed Loops: The psychological reason why we remember a rude encounter from 15 years ago.Shared Scripts: How the lack of explicit rules in public spaces is changing the way we interact with one another.

The Goal of All Things Human: To explore the quiet rules of how we are with each other—even when those rules get broken.

  • Have you ever had an automated system deny your loan, flag your social media post, or change your work schedule without explanation?

In this episode, we dive into the "talk of the town" in tech circles: AI Governance. What is AI Governance?. While it sounds like a dry topic for lawyers, it’s actually a deeply human issue that impacts our daily lives and livelihoods.

We explore the growing "accountability gap" where decisions are made instantly and at scale, yet no single human feels responsible for the outcome. From the workplace to customer support, we break down why the current lack of clear ownership is eroding trust—even when the technology is working exactly as designed.

Key topics covered in this episode:

The Black Box Effect: Why "the system flagged it" is becoming the ultimate shield against accountability.Human Speed vs. AI Scale: How the transition from manual audits to instant, automated decisions has broken our traditional feedback loops.Ethics vs. Accountability: Why having an "ethics team" isn't the same as having someone empowered to stop or reverse a system. The Future of Trust: What leaders must do to bridge the gap between human responsibility and machine efficiency.

Join us as we pull back the curtain on AI governance and discuss why the most important question in tech today isn't "What can AI do?" but "Who is responsible when it does it?".

  • Many conversations about AI-driven job losses frame entrepreneurship as “freedom.” But what if you don’t want to start a business? In this episode, I talk honestly about why not everyone is wired to be a solopreneur—and why that matters as AI reshapes work.

This episode is for people who have been laid off or displaced and are quietly overwhelmed by the pressure to “figure it out” on their own. There's the idea that they can do that, armed with a bunch of AI tools. Even though it may be theoretically possible, I don't think this is an accurate portrayal of the situation people find themselves in. I share my own accidental path into solopreneurship, the support that made it possible, and why my experience doesn’t generalize to everyone.

I don’t offer a neat solution. Instead, I sit with the discomfort of a system that celebrates independence while ignoring uneven risk, caregiving realities, and psychological cost. There has to be more than one path forward. I cover some possibilties in my Substack substack.com/@adelewang

Q: What happens when AI layoffs push people into entrepreneurship? What if people don't want to be business owners?

A: Not everyone benefits from becoming a solopreneur. While some thrive with autonomy, others experience increased stress, financial insecurity, and emotional overload—especially when they didn’t choose this path.

I explore this topic more deeply on Substack, where I write longer essays on work, AI, and meaning. Visit me at substack.com/@adelewang

  • What Solopreneurs Need To Understand About the Attention Game

What is the Visibility Industrial Complex?

The Visibility Industrial Complex is a system where solopreneurs are pressured to remain constantly visible in order to be seen as credible, relevant, or legitimate — even when that visibility no longer leads to connection or meaningful work.

Why does marketing feel exhausting for solopreneurs?

Because visibility practices have become a requirement rather than a tool, turning self-promotion into ongoing emotional labor.

Why doesn’t more visibility lead to more buying?

Repeated exposure without relevance creates noise, not trust, and buyers disengage.

Is this a personal branding failure?

No. It’s a system problem driven by incentives that reward attention over alignment.

This episode is cultural critique exposing how the visibility-industrial complex has convinced an entire generation that being seen is survival. This conversation reveals the lore and accompanying machinery behind the pressure to be visible all the time, in order to be successful. The Visibility Industrial Complex is profitable, but not for many of the actual participants.

Take a look behind the curtain to notice who's profiting while business owners scramble for attention, validation, and relevance on platforms designed to extract, not serve.

  • Why performative networking is failing and how to reclaim real connection in the age of AI

If you’ve ever stood in a room of 50 people, clutching a coffee cup and waiting for a 29-second countdown to pitch your business to a room of people who aren’t actually listening, you’ve felt the "Chamber of Commerce" exhaustion. We have replaced real relationship-building with "Identity Flashcards"—a phenomenon I call Brand Warmth Simulation. In this episode, we dissect why this extractive style of networking is hollowing out our professional lives, the heavy cognitive cost of "performative vulnerability," and why the rise of AI is about to make these polished, hollow scripts even more obvious—and more avoidable.

  • We are living with a quiet internal split — and most of us feel it, but few can name it.

On one side of us is the part that uses AI, productivity tools, and digital systems to stay relevant, visible, and competitive.

On the other side is the part of us that longs for what feels real. Presence, trust, effort, and genuine human connection.

In this episode, Adele Wang explores the growing emotional and relational tension of these two parts of us in the AI era. People use these tools to be more productive, and so much content now “looks fine”. But feels off, and it's why trust is quietly eroding. Even business owners themselves feel uneasy when AI is used on them. Because they they feel the same tension about AI when they experience it while they also use it towards others.

    In this episode:

‱ The invisible trust fracture that's happening

‱ Why people can sense when something wasn’t created by a real person

‱ The quiet exhaustion that comes from living inside algorithmic noise

‱ Why authenticity has become more valuable — and more fragile — than attention

This is not a tactical AI episode. It’s a human one.

  • What is the one word that makes corporate leaders more squeamish than "taxes" or "sex"?

    Power.

In the coaching and development world, people are allergic to the word. It sounds dirty. It sounds like corruption. So, the word got rebranded to "Empowerment" because that feels safe. It feels internal. It feels like yoga.

But in this episode, I argue that this semantic shift is actually dangerous. By confusing the feeling of empowerment with the physics of power, we are accidentally training a generation of leaders to be abrasive, isolated, and blind to their own impact.

    We cover:

The Semantic Trap: Why we love "Empowerment" but hate "Power"—and why the distinction matters. The "Jerks" Paradox: How standard coaching advice ("Don't care what people think") can turn a well-meaning leader into a toxic boss. The Two Types of Power: The critical difference between Internal Agency (Self-Empowerment) and External Physics (Power Over resources and people). The AI Factor: Why Artificial Intelligence is about to make this power dynamic even more volatile.

If you’ve ever wondered why so many "empowered" leaders seem to lack basic empathy, this episode unpacks the mechanism behind the behavior.

Note: My use of the term “brain damage” in the epsidoe was as a metaphor, not a literal sense of physical brain damage.

Key Quote: "We have a generation of leaders who think they are 'empowered,' but they are actually just abrasive because they don't understand the tool they are holding." #PowerDynamics #LeadershipPsychology #CorporateCulture #ExecutiveCoaching #AbrasiveLeadership #ThePowerTrap #NeuroscienceOfLeadership #EmpowermentTrap #FutureOfWork #AILeadership

  • The irony of this was not lost on me. It's frankly embarassing to see this.

It's obvious, once you know how to look.

Maybe you can relate. Maybe you're already feeling that disembodied feeling when you encounter vanilla smooth AI-generated content. It looks fine. It looks great. But doesn't actually really say anything.

Why? Because there's no distinction. There's no point of view.

It's all just very smooth and vanilla.

The AI detector tool told me:

This article has extremely high probabilities of being AI-generated, or at the very least, heavily assembled using AI templates. Abrasive people often use AI to polish their tone because they know their natural voice is too aggressive for marketing.

    We live in strange times.

  • Did you know that of all the possible uses of AI, the one that's the most popular right now is therapy? People are using AI as their own online therapist to work out their issues. What does that mean, for our mental health?

This episode challenges what you believe about connection, AI, and human emotion. I sat down with Dr. Marlyn Wei, a Harvard and Yale trained psychiatrist who has been at the forefront in exploring the connection between AI and psychology. Listen in as I asked her whether AI can ever replace the power of being truly seen, and what role, if any, AI might have in the field of therapy. I expand on this conversation further on my Substack: https://substack.com/@adelewang. Hope to see you there!

  • Most business leaders think they know how to profit from AI. Even though no one actually says it out loud, a lot of the push is coming from the desire to become more efficicent, reduce staff, and enjoy the jump in profitability. Those are certainly true. But by looking at AI with the lens, it's likely many business owners are also, at the same time, likely to miss the real opportunity worth millions.

In this episode, AI consultant and leadership coach Adele Wang explains why the companies firing half their workforce might make short-term gains, but the companies keeping their people will dominate the market long-term. It's the story of two companies, similar to a gold rush analogy. By merely reducing staff and giving everyone better tools, it still presents some of the same assumptions that many business owners have about work in general.

It's time to re-evaluate basic assumptions on "productivity". Through the story of two companies and a powerful gold rush analogy, you'll discover how business owners of the future will need to focus more on leadership than management.

In other words, smart leaders of the future will look beyond mining gold with better tools, and be more interested in using their people to tap into the mother lode of opportunity.

Perfect for: Business owners, executives, team leaders, and anyone implementing AI in their organization. Or if you just wonder about human nature, psychology and what runs through the minds of business leaders amidst a gold rush of AI...

  • 🎙 Is AI Better at Being Human Than We Are? đŸ€Ż

Why is it so hard to have conversations with people who fundamentally disagree with us?

If you're like me, it can make you anxious and stressed. But at the same time, maybe you actually DO want to understand how and why someone feels the way they do. Because you care about them...but...

Maybe you're absolutely baffled at their world viewpoint. How and why do they feel the way they do??

    Especially now...

So maybe you've tried to have a thoughtful conversation online, only to watch it turn into a dumpster fire of misunderstandings, personal attacks, and outrage. No fun.

We all like to think we’re open-minded, but the truth is, most people struggle to engage in real conversations about the things that actually matter—politics, social issues, values. The second emotions get involved, things go sideways.

💡 But what if AI could help?

I honestly feel it can. It has, for me...

In this episode, I explain how a wild idea: AI might actually be better at guiding nuanced, meaningful conversations than we are. Not because it’s smarter, but because it doesn’t get defensive, emotional, or shut people down. Humans, right now in history, lack the leadership, communication and emotional stamina for what's needed when trying to resolve issues that involve a lot of complexity. We just haven't been built for it, and now we must lean into it. I think AI can help us.

In this episode I dive into:

✔ Why we’re losing the ability to handle complex conversations

✔ How social media has rewired our brains to crave outrage

✔ A simple way to use AI to explore perspectives you disagree with—without the usual emotional minefield

✔ How AI can teach us to listen, think, and communicate more effectively

🎧 If you’ve ever found yourself wondering, Why can’t people just talk to each other anymore?—this episode is for you.

  • As a former perfectionist, I spent years on personal development, leadership growth, therapy, and coaching—but I still felt stuck. If this is you, you’re not alone.

In this episode, I reveal the fundamental flaw in the coaching industry and why two dominant coaching approaches—emotional processing and mindset work—often keep people spinning their wheels. You could say I'm the anti-personal development coach.

✅ Why mindset shifts, reframing, and subconscious work don’t always lead to real transformation (this is my biggest pet peeve...)

✅ The hidden trap of emotional processing (and why it sometimes makes things worse)

✅ The missing piece in most coaching models—and how it unlocks real clarity

✅ What insight coaching is and how it helps you break free from endless self-work

I hope this gives you something fresh to ponder. Especially if you’re tired of working on yourself but still feeling like something is missing.

It's not you. You've processed and worked on yourself plenty. Maybe it's time for insight. Simple, powerful, with no work.

  • We’ve been told to “build a better relationship with ourselves” as if we’re two separate people. But what if that’s the very thing keeping us stuck? In this episode, I explore a profound idea from The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle: the illusion of self-improvement. Basically, when we try to “fix” or “improve” our relationship with ourselves, we unconsciously create a split—one part observing, one part being judged.

The pop psychology idea behind this is that if we have a good relationship with ourselves, (ie "I love myself") then we can have good relationships with other people.

But what if this misses the point? What if we don't need a relationship with ourselves at all? What if the only thing that this whole thing in life is really about is to just be?

There's a lot of freedom with that. Imagine -- you don’t need to negotiate with your mind. You don’t need another layer of self-help. Maybe you don't even need a ton of positive affirmations to convince your "self" that you are a good person.

You just need to be. Not "be good" or "be loving", which sends everyone back into the judging and evaluative lens. But just be.

This was one of Eckhart Tolle's main messages in his book,"The Power of Now", which I discuss.

Share this with someone who could use a different perspective on personal development. You might make their day.

  • Many people who are stuck are determined to never feel pain because they think it's "negative". But the irony is that the insistence on only focusing on "positive things", and resistance to feeling their whole feelings, even painful stuff, is often why people are stuck. What people resist, persists.

  • In this thought-provoking episode, I share the latest research on the fascinating intersection of artificial intelligence (AI), authenticity, and human connection. From the rise of AI-generated content to the ethical dilemmas businesses face, I explore questions like:

Can you really tell when something is AI-generated?How does AI impact consumer trust and relationships? Is AI therapy a real alternative to human counselors?

Discover the research behind how people feel when engaging with AI. AI is changing behavior. Without understanding this, businesses risk trust by misleading customers with chatbots and what the future of human-AI interaction could mean for customer service. This even impacts industries like mental health.

Whether you’re a business leader curious about AI ethics, a professional navigating the digital age, or simply someone pondering what it means to stay human in a world dominated by AI, I hope you will enjoy these insights and practical takeaways so you can thrive amidst the chaos.
