“I've been documenting tattoo culture and contemporary tattoo history with a series of paintings, The Tattooed Portraits Series.
I started painting tattooed artists in 2005, obsessively documenting the men and women that have pioneered the genre of contemporary tattoo art and the history of modern tattooing. My dedication and enthusiasm for the art form gradually opened doors for me to learn the craft from some of the greatest tattoo artists in the world. My life is consumed with tattooing, the art of tattoo and documentation of tattooing through painting works on this subject. Presently, over four hundred works have been made in this series. “

Shawn earned his B.F.A from Ringling College of Art in 1999 and A.A.S. from Cazenovia College in 1997. His paintings are held in private collections throughout the United States, Canada, Asia, Europe and Australia. His paintings have been exhibited in diverse solo and group venues including: Somerset House Museum, London, UK; Craft and Folk Art Museum, Los Angeles, CA; Halle Saint Pierre Museum, Paris; Pinnacles Gallery, Queensland, Australia; Mesa Contemporary Arts Center, Mesa, AZ; Museum of Latin American Art, Long Beach, CA; Artspace, Shreveport, LA; Joshua Liner Gallery, NYC, NY; Southern Illinois University Museum, Carbondale, IL; and the University of Houston, Houston, TX.
Among his extensive achievements, he has taught drawing, painting and the business of art for 20 years at various art schools throughout the country. After years of documenting the art of tattoo, it was a logical progression to pick up the tattoo machine and add tattooist to his resume.
In 2009, Shawn and his girlfriend Kim Saigh, opened Memoir Tattoo in Los Angeles, CA. His most recent fine art book, 'Memoir : The Tattooed Portraits Series' a 256 page hardcover visual tome, published by Last Gasp Books, was released in July 2012.

“I have been creating fantasy and science fiction art for over 40 years. After receiving a BFA degree from Western Kentucky, I married Betty Clemons and was drafted into the army almost at the same time. After two years in the service, I got a job at Fort Knox, Kentucky as an illustrator. In addition, I started freelancing at home and was published in a few magazines, including Heavy Metal and National Lampoon. During this time I produced my best work with my wife, our two children, Jennifer and Jeremy.
Eventually, I was contacted by TSR Inc., the company that produced the role playing game Dungeons & Dragons, and I went to work there from 1981 to 1987. While at TSR, I helped set the standards of gaming art in the role-playing genre. Besides creating covers for Dungeons & Dragons, AD&D, Star Frontiers and other gaming books, I created SnarfQuest Tales for the company’s Dragon Magazine. I may be best known for my work with the world of Dragonlance, exemplified by the covers of the DRAGONLANCE book series.
Since 1987, I’ve been working as a freelance illustrator, creating covers for comics, computer games, magazines, fantasy and science fiction books and many other projects. I have worked for other publishers such as BAEN books, Bantam, Warner Books, ACE/Berkley, Doubleday, and Del Rey. I am also the co-author of Runes of Autumn and creator of the Sovereign Stone series. In the gaming and comic industries, I have freelanced for TSR, Inc, FASA, Mayfair Games, Game Designer’s Workshop, White Wolf, Iron Crown Enterprises, Dragon Magazine, Amazing Magazine, Wizard Press, D. C. Comics, First Comics, Eclipse Comics and Frank Frazetta’s Fantasy Illustrated. Miscellaneous credits include LJN Toys, Mattel, Lucas Films, Tonka, Monogram Models, Western Publishing, Sony Entertainment’s EverQuest, and various computer game covers.”

Allie is a freelance fantasy artist located in the North East coast of the US. Growing up in a small wooded kingdom between the great cranberry dunes and the deep thorny swamps, the wonder of adventure and the magic of the every day discovery replaced the blood in her veins. The seeds planted in those young years grew into the heroes and dragons that are created today. Her journey followed an academic path, shortly pursuing a graphic design career in college till the call for whimsy pulled her back, graduating with a BFA in illustration. Continuing along a conventional corporate route, she entered unrelated fields of work for five years. Her art hibernated. At the end of 2017, that all changed. The beast was woken from it's slumber, and the path of freelance illustration began. Since then she has traversed a different road; brushing of rust, attuning, discovering, relearning, and unapologetically telling nerdy and fantastical stories.

“My name is Daria Aksenova and I'm a visual narrative artist known for my suspended paper, shadowbox-like ink work based on mythology and folklore. Each piece tells an elaborate story about interpersonal human behaviors rooted in the human condition, such as growth, emotionality, aspiration, conflict, and mortality. I use traditional mediums with a preference for black and white.
For my linework, I use a mix of Sakura Microns, Rotring Rapidographs, and inking nibs. Dozens of ink washes layered on top of each other create the shading gradient. Once finished, the illustrated layers are precisely hand-cut with a mix of scalpels and Excel blades and suspended against each other to create an illusion of movement and depth.”

During this episode we talk to Beth about her choice to take the path of teacher and mentor. We talk to her about her passion to nurture young minds and help keep the creative spirit alive during a time when young people will feel powerful external forces pressing on them: Highschool.
We discuss the relationship between students and teachers and what each can do to maximize the positive outcomes in the relationship. Having been in each role at various times in her life, Beth brings a valuable insight for anyone who finds themselves in either.
Lastly, we talk about the temptations that teaching can have for the ego and how to avoid becoming over-zealous when given the opportunity to shape impressionable minds.

David Petersen was born and raised in Flint, Michigan where he climbed trees, built forts, and made up stories in his mind and on paper. Later he graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a BFA in Printmaking. David's New York Times Bestselling and award-winning Graphic Novel series Mouse Guard is published in 15 languages and has a popular Role-Playing Game based on the comics. He's done comic covers for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Usagi Yojimbo, The Dark Crystal, The Locke & Key, and The Muppets.
