The BLTR crew is proud to sit down with New Jersey native and the Lancaster Barnstormer’s bullpen catcher, Robert Rosado. Rosado brings to the Barnstormers not only a baseball background but one that includes degrees in exercise science and physiology and experience as a CrossFit trainer and competitive weightlifter. As a former gym owner and keen on recognizing the many injuries and rehab needs of athletes, Robert sought out a massage therapy license and continued specialization in orthopedic manual therapy. With a meticulous eye on body posture and athletic movement, Robert can detect imbalances and problematic areas long before injuries occur. Rosado is one of the most authentic and genuine individuals in the game and is endowed with a selfless desire to help athletes stay healthy and materialize their professional dreams of getting to the Big Leagues.

BLTR sits down with Jason Sherwin and Jordan Muraskin, founders of deCervo and uHIT Pitch Recognition and Training App. Jason and Jordan’s company deCervo was the main subject of Zach Schonbrun’s book “The Performance Cortex” which examines the neurological aspects of hitting performance among baseball players and how a better understanding of the human brain can provide more insight on proprioception and split-second decision making at the plate. deCervo has been instrumental and pioneering in expanding the conversation from the “mental” aspect of the game to the “neurological” component of athletic performance. In addition to uHIT Baseball their library of training apps includes uHIT Softball and uCall for MLB and NHL Umpires and Officials.

The BLTR crew brings on a polished and professional writer, the accomplished Zach Schonbrun. Zach is currently a senior editor covering business and technology at The Week news magazine and a contributor to The New York Times. Zach is also the author of The Performance Cortex a book that explored and dived into the neuroscience of motor skills in the athlete performance industry. Hailing from Jacksonville, Florida dreams came true for Colby Halter when he donned the blue and orange for the Florida Gators this past spring. During his time as a student at Bishop Kenny HS, Colby participated in some of the most prestigious and highly touted showcase events/tournaments nationally and internationally. In 2019, Colby displayed his talents at the Perfect Game National Showcase at Chase Field in Arizona and was a key cog for Team USA U-18 World Cup Team hitting .419 in South Korea. Colby talks to the BLTR crew about how he prepared himself for high intensity showcases, what it is like to be a baseball player in the Gator program, his freshman season this past spring and more! A Toronto born and Cambridge, Ontario raised, the BLTR crew talks shop with 13 year MLB veteran Rob Ducey. Rob was a journeyman playing for 6 MLB teams that included the Blue Jays, Phillies, Mariners, Rangers, Angels and Expos. In 2004, Rob represented Team Canada at the 2004 Olympics and was later inducted into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame in 2013. He also served as a Coach at the 2006 World Baseball Classic and 2008 Olympics. A two-sport athlete at the highest levels in the amateur and professional setting, Brian Johnson joins the podcast to reminisce and talk about his playing days. Brian entered Stanford University on a full scholarship as a 2 sport athlete, playing QB and catching for the Cardinal football and baseball teams. In 25 games as a QB, Johnson threw for 3,334 yard with a 115.4 PER while also collecting 112 hits and driving in 54 RBIs on the diamond. Drafted 413th overall by the NY Yankees in the 1989 MLB draft, Johnson went on to have a 9 year MLB career playing for the Padres, Tigers, Giants, Royals and Dodgers. Johnson was very instrumental in assisting the SF Giants with their scouting efforts at the MLB level and was described by many in the organization as a key component of the 2012 World Series Championship. The BLTR podcast continues to feature Olympic baseball players with left handed hitter and righty throwing Jeremy Wolf. A Scottsdale, Arizona native Jeremy attended and committed to play at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas after helping his high school team win a state championship. In his 4 years at Trinity University, Jeremy slashed .367/.455/.577 while racking up 249 hits, slugging out 19 homers and driving in 172 RBI’s. In 2016 Jeremy was named an ABCA All American player and helped Trinity capture the Division 3 World Series. Drafted in the 31st Round of the 2016 MLB Draft by the New York Mets, Wolf played 2 professional seasons in the minors before injuries prompted a pause on his career. Jeremy is the founder and director of More than Baseball an organization that focuses on providing minor league players the tools, resources and assistance needed to cultivate a better working experience during the season. A professional ballplayer, entrepreneur and now current Olympic competitor, Alex Katz joins the BLTR podcast. A Long Island native, Alex stayed local when he chose to pitch for the D1 St. Johns Red Storm. In 3 years, Katz compiled a 3.97 ERA in 124.3 innings for the Red Storm including a memorable 13K shutout vs. Fairfield University. Drafted by the White Sox in the 27th round of the 2015 MLB Draft, Alex’s professional career has taken him through multiple organizations and now currently with the Tennessee Smokies, a Double A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs. Off the field, Alex ventured into the customizable shoe/cleat business providing creative, unique and exciting designs for current MLB players. A UC Berkeley graduate, Shane Barclay President of Japan Ball was always drawn to the sport of baseball from a very young age. After graduating college, Shane started off his career working for the Arizona Diamondbacks. Shane then started acquiring international experience when he worked for MLB Commissioner’s office for 9 years, 2 years in the Dominican Republic and 7 years in Manhattan. In 2020 Shane combined his passion for baseball and traveling by assuming the operation and ownership of JapanBaseball from Bob Bavasi of Bavasi Sports Partners. Arkansas Razorback alumnus and newly signed Phillies player, Matt Goodheart joins the BLTR crew in a fantastic conversation that goes beyond baseball. Born into a baseball family, Matt was always driven to play baseball competitively at the highest level. After graduating High School, Matt played at San Jacinto Community College for one year putting up a .355/.464/.574 slash line before transferring to Arkansas University and becoming a Razorback. In 3 seasons at Arkansas, Goodheart slugged his way to 20 HRs, 98 RBIs and sprayed the fields with 137 hits. Matt talks about his upbringing, hitting philosophy, memorable moments at Arkansas, his love for his teammates and what he’s looking forward to next in professional baseball with the Philadelphia Phillies Organization. Dr. David Mann is a Sport Scientist with 20+ years in sport, academia, and clinical practice and
currently an Associate Professor at Vrije University in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Dr. Mann co-authored, “The Success of Sinister Right-Handers in Baseball”, a study published in the New England Journal of Medicine in October of 2017 whose research revealed that that players who throw right-handed and bat left enjoy a biomechanical advantage than those who bat and throw left or bat and throw right. Their study debunked a prior 1982 study by Mclean and Ciurczak, also published in the NEJM, which claimed that lefty hitters and lefty throwers had the biomechanical advantage.
Dr. Mann’s background includes a research fellow in the Faculty of Human Movement Sciences at Vrije University, a Research Assistant Professor in the Institute of Human Performance at the University of Hong Kong; Clinic Director and Senior Lecturer in the School of Optometry and Vision Science at the University of New South Wales (Sydney, Australia); and Skill Acquisition Specialist at the Australian Institute of Sport (Canberra, Australia). -
Drafted in the MLB First-Year Player Draft in 3 consecutive years, Johnny Monell signed his first professional contract in 2007 after being drafted in the 30th round by the San Francisco Giants. Playing professionally for 12 seasons, the game of baseball has allowed Johnny to play with the best of the best at the Major League level and see different parts of the world in Korea and the Caribbean to name a few. Johhny tells the BLTR crew how catching came about for him, his experience catching some of the best pitchers in the world and what he is up to currently after retiring from professional baseball in 2018. Vern Gambetta, the Director of Gambetta Sports Training Systems joins BLTR in a great conversation about strength & conditioning and functional path movement in athletics. Tyson Gillies is an exceptional athlete and professional baseball player but there is more to Tyson than meets the eye. Tyson began playing baseball around 11-12 years old and as he continued to play competitively he soon realizes his talents could take him far in this game. A native and proud Canadian, Tyson was drafted in the 25h round of the MLB draft in 2006 and spent 9 years in the minors between the Seattle and Philadelphia organizations. With the Canadian National Baseball team Tyson was apart of and made key contributions during the 2015 Pan-American Games capturing the Gold and helping his country seal a bid in the 2013 World Baseball Classic. Professional baseball player in the Seattle Mariners organization Bobby Honeyman joins the Bats Left Throws Right crew to discuss his journey and the road it took to realizing his dreams of becoming a pro. A Long Island native hailing from Massapequa, Bobby was a 2x All County selection and NY All State selection in 2014. Bobby had a stellar career at Division 1 Stony Brook totaling 201 hits for the Wolverines in 4 years with the program capping it off with an All-America East First Team selection in 2018. Drafted during the 29th round of the MLB Draft in 2018, Bobby is currently with the Arkansas Travelers the Double A Affiliate of the Seattle Mariners.
