Welcome back to Between Shifts Podcast — Episode 3.5, the second half of our conversation with Karina Walker.
We pick right back up and get into the good stuff: whether she'd redo her 2021 COVID wedding (spoiler — she'd go to Italy), why destination weddings in Europe can actually be cheaper than one in Winnipeg, and the Paris wedding that might be in the works. Karina breaks down her now-signature "shoot through the bus" shot, the intentional-vs-overused debate around motion blur, and why she always shows the back of the camera.
Then it gets real on motherhood and the hustle — editing weddings two weeks postpartum, shooting four months after giving birth, setting boundaries on sneak peeks, and how an unconventional schedule actually means more family time. Plus wedding trends for 2026, the photographer sewing club, and a closing round of Would You Rather that gets surprisingly philosophical about emotion over perfect lighting.
If you're juggling a creative career with everything else life throws at you — pull up a chair. This one's for you.

Welcome back to Between Shifts Podcast — Episode 3, and our first ever guest.
We sit down with Karina Walker: longtime ringette veteran, photographer, videographer, and a mom since 2023. Karina turned a 2020 pandemic layoff into a full photography and videography career, and she walks us through the whole climb — starting with video for small businesses, joining a styled shoot, shooting her first wedding for $500, and building the early connections that got her booked.
We get into why she shifted from video to photo (less time-intensive, easier to manage without full-time childcare), how she keeps a consistent editing style, and the real talk on shooting harsh sun versus overcast — and why adaptability on a wedding day matters more than perfect conditions. Karina also opens up about what she loves about weddings, setting workload boundaries, and her recent leap into off-camera flash to better capture venues.
Plus: the standout Italy wedding, chasing occasional destination work, TikTok reach and viral mishaps, and the messy reality of cancellations and double/triple weekends.
If you're a creative figuring out your lane, your pricing, or your boundaries — pull up a chair. This one's for you.

Welcome back to Between Shifts Podcast — Episode 2.
We're catching up after Jheike's trip to BC, running on no sleep thanks to dad life, and getting into the thing every creative and every nurse has felt but nobody wants to admit: imposter syndrome. What it actually is, how it shows up in photography, the social media comparison trap that makes it worse, and how it hit Jheike early in her nursing career too.
From there it's a real talk on pricing. Why photography costs what it costs, the plumber-and-electrician parallel that finally makes it click, all the hidden work behind a wedding nobody sees, why your prices belong online, and how to raise your rates without the guilt. We also get into why couples should book their photographer early — and what actually matters more than perfect lighting.
Plus a round of Would You Rather, and the nursing-vs-wedding scheduling conflict that keeps things interesting.
If you've ever felt like a fraud or undercharged for your work — pull up a chair. This one's for you.

Welcome to Between Shifts Podcast — Episode 1
This is our pilot, so we figured the right place to start was with Jheike's story: full-time nurse in acute care, somehow also a booked wedding photographer, and the wild balancing act in between. We get into how COVID lit the fuse on her side hustle, the immigrant-family pressure that pushed her toward nursing in the first place, what gear actually costs when you go pro, and the worst day she's ever had on the job.
From there we get into why we're making this podcast at all — why we wanted to film it, what we actually want to talk about, and the stuff no one tells you about going pro. Pricing, working for exposure, reading a room, why your nursing skills (yes, really) make you a better photographer, and the uncensored advice we wish someone had given us when we started.
If you've got a side hustle simmering, or you're a creative trying to figure out if you can actually pull this off — pull up a chair. This is for you.
