  • Today's episode isn't just another story—it's a narrative of transformation and triumph with Carnell Smith Jr., or as he's known, Sgt WarDawg. His journey is a mirror to the many soldiers who return home to battles of a different kind—battles with PTSD, with reintegration, with finding a new mission in civilian life. His words are a beacon for the lost, as he passionately discusses his life's new direction: aiding homeless veterans through his organization and the invigorating power of nature.

Keep an eye out for Sgt WarDawg's book and podcast, "The Wardawg Trail" releasing hopefully this year.

  • In this episode Donna and Jay talk to Carla about her service, MST, being incarcerated and finding purpose in her life. Due to her life experiences and personal knowledge of the judicial system, Carla brings an entirely different level of credibility to the conversation. Her mission to help others who are struggling both inside the prison walls and out is transparent and genuine. Carla talks about the importance of the Veteran Treatment Court Program and how things might have been very different had she had this service available prior to her 20 year incarceration.

    Carla's Bio
Carla Bugg is Criminal Justice Services Coordinator for the Recovery Organization of Support Specialist, where she trains and manages other peers to support men and women with a substance use disorder during their reentry after incarceration. • What good is a program unless it is effective? After interviewing the team members of the Veteran Treatment Court, it only seems appropriate to interview someone that has been through the program.

Jay and Donna were honored to have a chat with US Army Veteran, George Wolf. After slipping into the service at age 16, he thoroughly enjoyed his job as a 13E (part of a field artillery unit). He left the military in 1988 and after the death of his parents in his early 20s, he struggled with mental health on and off for 28 years. In 2016, he found himself arrested on 5 charges and facing jail time. Through the efforts of a Colonel that believed in him, he was given the opportunity to enter the newly established Veteran Treatment Court.

“Wolf”, as he prefers to be called, openly discusses his struggles, the challenges of the Veteran Treatment Court, how tough love saved his life, and what he is doing now to give back.

Donna and Jay chat with Yenaiv Lopez regarding her role at the Veteran Treatment Court’s probation officer, the challenges she faces as a younger probation officer, how she connects with the participants in the VTC, and why she is passionate about this work.

    Yenaiv’s Bio

Yenaiv has been a probation officer for the veteran's treatment court since Dec 2022; and has been a probation officer since 2019. Since becoming a probation officer, she has supervised several caseloads, ranging from a direct, bond, and now in the veteran's treatment caseload. Prior to her work as a probation officer, she worked in the office of a construction company.
