I’ve Almost Done it.
I’m so close now, but I cannot stop. I must remain vigilant.
This was only a partial success, even now, all it would take is to stumble, hesitate, or flinch and all of this was pointless
I have no time for regrets. My Compatriots these past few months -Fenlin, Alice, Angela and her parrot- would never have supported this initiative. So I structured time to keep them out of the way, gave them their own roles to play in this ramshackle timeline, a temporary world built out of the destruction of its former self. Powered by the Apocalypse.
They wouldn’t exept that this world is fake, disposable. The whole POINT of the new timeline is to build up enough suffering to create a truly perfect reality, but this tortured version of home, a sort of agony plane or Dungeon World, has to exist long enough to do that.
It will all be worth it in the end. I have to believe that

(the following is a transcript of an impromptu street performance, any actors are unknown)
THE FOOL and THE CLOWN are standing outside of an unidentified tavern. There is a battered hat on the ground in front of them both. THE CLOWN is juggling a single pin, THE FOOL is digging through a garbage bin
The Fool: Do you hear it?
THE FOOL begins to remove wood from the bin
The Clown:Of course, it’s the season, the air is rife with birdsong, nature is resplendent
THE FOOL has removed more dried wood from the bin than seems possible, it is stacked up against the side of the tavern
The Fool: Resplendent is a choice, it’s funny, of course, we attribute such beauty to the songs they sing
THE FOOL begins to pour a liquid out of a red angular box onto the wall and dried wood lean-two
The Clown: At least conceptually
THE FOOL turns to THE CLOWN, who gives them a red, stubby candle. It’s flame flickers softly. THE FOOL looks deep into it, in a contemplative manner.
The Fool: Sure, the point being, there is *obviously* no greater purpose or meaning to it, it’s just threats of aggression and lustful calls, the only source of ‘beauty’ is in our inability to understand
THE FOOL casually tosses the candle over their shoulder, igniting the oily wood
The Clown: But is this not always true?

MS LUISE HARLOUX, narrating as she writes: Of course, these days, our mother has given as much of herself to her new love as the theater will take.
MS LUISE HARLOUX: of course, even calling that roving band of glorified carnival workers “theater” is an insult to SOMEONE, I’m sure. Those hoodlums get a stooge to buy them drinks and niceties, and she feels as if she actually is making something worthwhile.
A GRUBBY CLOWN, who was present for the entire scene and standing center stage, begins to speak. Everyone tries as hard as they can to proceed as if they don’t see him.
CLOWN: Hey, uh, hey buddy.
MS LUISE HARLOUX is clearly upset, but acts as if she doesn’t see it
MS LUISE HARLOUX: it… ah. (deep breath) The Traveling actors are..
CLOWN: Hey pal, you yeah, the one readin’ this. Did you remembeh? Did you build it?
MS LUISE HARLOUX, more agitated, almost desperate: Th- THE ACTORS ARE-
THE CLOWN cuts her off
CLOWN:the stage? It’s gonna be ~impoh’tent~ sooOOoonish!

THE FUNNY MR. DESMOND helpfully sits at his little table in front of the MEAN OLD JUDGE. All the BUSY BODIES around do not appreciate his silly antics! His friendly but boring DEFENSE ATTORNEY is also here.
THE JUDGE (sternly): Mr. Desmond, we have heard a truly appalling case before you tonight. You have shown no sign of innocence, no remorse, no-
DESMOND: What do you call a pretend friend? What is a bird's real name? What's the difference between a song and a brushfire?
THE JUDGE: What?
DESMOND (excitedly): The answer ‘to hurt and cut and carve and grin!’ do you get it? Do you get the joke???
DESMOND laughs. Nobody else appreciates his good clever humor!
THE JUDGE, increasingly exasperated: Mister- this is a court of law! I will have you respect this courtroo-
THE DEFENCE: Your honor, if I may?
THE JUDGE: Proceed, although your client is already on very thin ice, let me remind you.
THE DEFENCE: Your honor, I'd like to tell you a joke.
THE JUDGE frantically tries to call security to ruin the fun, but it's too late. The Newly Cheerful DEFENCE, who has opened up as a more happy, self accepting person, cleverly tears the judges throat out with his teeth, all while whispering funny funny jokes. The BUSY BODIES panic and try to flee, but luckily MR. DESMOND draws his silly little knife to carve them senses of humor.

ROBBER: Oh, big tough police routine! Real scared, officer, very good interrogation. Top notch.
COP: Ok, smart guy. Let's make this interesting.
COP places a revolver on the table.
ROBBER: What the fuck is this. What the FUCK? IS THIS?
COP: It’s really not that hard. You can tell me what I need, or--
COP picks up the gun and places it against their head.
COP: We play.
COP pulls the trigger, shooting themself. ROBBER stares in stunned silence. After a few moments, COP sits back up, without a fair amount of his head.
COP: Your turn.

MANSERVANT TEODORE (groggily at first): Who… are you? Are. Are we in some kind of butcher's shop? Is this a basement? Where am I?
