    Husam Sha'ath is a seasoned consultant, coach, instructor and practitioner in the fields of Strategic Management, Implementation Management, Corporate Transformations and Project & Program Management. He is the Founder and President of FORTE Management Consulting Inc., a Management Consulting and training firm based in Toronto. Prior to that, Mr. Sha’ath was a Principal Consultant in Corporate and Operations Strategy with PricewaterhouseCoopers Consulting in Toronto. He is past Chair of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) Chapter Council of the Canadian Association of Management Consultants. He holds a BSc Mech Eng, and MBA, and is a Fellow Certified Management Consultant, and a UK Chartered Engineer. He grew up in Kuwait worked in the Sultanate of Oman, and Jordan before immigrating to Canada in 1996.

  • The steel magnate Andrew Carnegie, reputedly the world's richest man in the late 19th century, had some advice for anyone who wished to follow his example: “Put all your eggs in one basket,” he said, “and then watch that basket.” Watching those eggs—aka asset protection—may no longer be that simple, if it ever was. But it's no less of a concern for anyone who has managed to amass some wealth. Making money is one thing; keeping it may require an entirely different set of strategies. Our guest today believes “Money represents power and power represents freedom”. If you have some money, you have some of both. It’s better to hold on to it than give it to fast talking politicians or investment gurus. Your challenge is to save your money, avoid expropriation and taxes.

    Today we hear from Alex Doulis noted expert and best-selling author on taxation, investing, banking and asset protection. He has written six books providing guidance to Canadians to legally avoid paying tax and hold onto wealth. They are NOT get rich quick books. His background is in finance having received his Chartered Financial Analyst in 1978. He worked in the investment industry in his later years and at aged 50, in 1990, having determined that more than 50 percent of his income was going to the tax men he devised the ultimate income tax avoidance scheme. He quit earning an income and went sailing for 15 years. At that time, he wrote the book “take your money and run”. During those years of leisure in the Mediterranean, Alex had the opportunity to write about investing, the Canadian stock market and how it got to be what it is and why the Canadian market is a very dangerous place for you.

  • Kevin Loring is an accomplished Canadian playwright, actor and director. He currently serves as Artistic Director of Indigenous Theatre at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa. He also serves as Artistic Director of Savage Society where he develops work that reflects an indigenous world view.

    A Nlaka’pamux from the Lytton First Nation in British Columbia, Kevin was the winner of the Governor General’s Award for English Language Drama for his play, Where the Blood Mixes.     For centuries, wars have been fought over resources. The need for land, oil, trade routes and other commodities have all led to deadly conflicts throughout history. But soon we could be seeing more fighting over arguably the most precious resource of all - water. Now to set the stage 97% of earths water is salt and 3% is freshwater. 97% of the fresh water is frozen in ice caps and glaciers so a fraction of a fraction is accessible. As the effects of climate change get worse, and the planet gets hotter and drier, the fight for water is only going to intensify. So - where could we see water wars? And how likely are they to actually happen?

    Bryan Karney Bio:

    Bryan Karney is a professor of Civil engineering at the UofT and he is phased retirement after holding the position of Vice Dean Multidisciplinary Programmes in the faculty of applied science and engineering. Professor Karney’s research interests reside in the design, analysis, operation and optimization of various water resource and energy systems. He specializes in the design and analysis of water distribution systems, with interests in infrastructure renewal, transient and water hammer analysis and system optimization. Professor Karney also studies the implication of climate change to system design and performance, and particularly energy use. He is a Professional Engineer in Ontario and holds a BASc, MEng and PhD in Civil Engineering from UBC.

    About Geraldine Barney

    Geraldine Barney’s artwork explores the relationship between the traditional Navajo values and beliefs she grew up with on the Navajo Reservation in Northwest New Mexico with contemporary city life off the reservation. Living in two cultures is a prominent theme in her art and her music.

    Geraldine studied printmaking at the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, NM and at the Kansas City Art Institute, Kansas City, MO. Although a printmaker at heart, Geraldine is currently working on a series of landscapes (both real and imagined) that invoke her passion for the land of the Southwest and her connection to the Navajo reservation.

    Geraldine is also a singer and song writer whose work is included in two Smithsonian Folkways CD’s; “Music of New Mexico: Native American Traditions” and “Heartbeat: Voices of First Nations Women”.

    Hessann Farooqi is the Executive Director of the Boston Climate Action Network. He is the youngest person and the first person of color appointed to lead BCAN in its more than two decade history. Hessann studied economics at Boston University, worked in the United States Senate, and served on various federal, state, and local political campaigns. He also serves as an Environmental Justice Advisor to the Metropolitan Area Planning Council on the development of their Greater Boston Climate Action Plan and supports MassRobotics on their Climate Robotics Working Group. He previously served as an advisor to The White House and Department of Energy’s Opportunity Project.

  • In 2022, just when Anastasiia Zhemchugova landed her dream job in an international law firm in Kyiv, Ukraine, war disrupted her career and life.
