Known for its opulence and luxury, the homes in Beverly Hills are some of the most expensive in the United States, with some properties worth tens of millions of dollars. But behind the country clubs, cocktail hours and shopping trips, there was something much darker brewing in a high end Beverly Hills neighborhood. On August 20th, 1989, business executive Jose Menendez and his wife Kitty were brutally murdered while sitting in the living room of their sprawling Mediterranean style mansion, and what seemingly made this tragedy worse was the fact that their two son’s, Lyle and Erik, were the ones to make the gruesome discovery of their bodies. Suddenly orphaned, the Menendez brothers were initially looked at with sympathy, but soon they would be on trial for the murder of their parents. Lyle and Erik didn’t deny that they had taken their parents' lives, but according to them it was because they were scared and broken down after a lifetime of abuse. Kouri Richins is a Utah mother and wife who, in 2022, allegedly poisoned her husband, Eric Richins, with a fatal dose of fentanyl. She was arrested and charged with his murder in 2023, but not before writing a book for children on how to handle losing a parent. Now, her lawyer has filed to withdraw from her case, and she makes her first public comments since her arrest.
Also in recent news, an 81-year-old man was arrested for terrorizing a neighborhood with a slingshot for over 10 years.

In November of 2023, the Tucson police department responded to a home on East Limberlost Drive where they found an 11 year old boy who an autopsy would later reveal had died from sepsis.
Investigators would learn that the 11 year old, who suffered from multiple medical conditions, was completely dependent on his caregivers; his mother, 33 year old Ariel Lee Horn and her boyfriend, 29 year old Charles Jackson McClellan Jr. According to the autopsy report, the child was found with extensive lesions throughout his lower body which were attributed to not receiving proper medical attention due to neglect from his mother and her boyfriend.

In 2019, 19-year-old Dylan Rounds and his grandfather purchased land together in Lucin, Utah, marking the beginning of Dylan’s lifelong dream to own and operate his own farm. Dylan spent two Summers getting the land ready to farm, and by the Spring of 2022, it was finally ready for the first crop. On the evening of May 27th Dylan worked later than usual, trying to get the seed planted before it rained and then on the morning of May 28th Dylan spoke to his grandmother, but this would be the last person to ever hear from Dylan. An arrest was made in March of 2024 and In April, skeletal remains found in a remote part of western Utah were identified as Dylan Rounds.

54-year-old Nicolae Miu, of Prior Lake Minnesota, was charged with first degree homicide in the death of 17-year-old Isaac Shuman who died during a scuffle with Miu and others. The incident occurred on July 30th, 2022 at the Apple River, and Miu’s defense team claimed he was acting in self defense when he stabbed Schuman and four others.

Leah Roberts was five foot, three inches with short dark hair and a beauty mark above the right side of her lips. On March 9th, 2000, Leah Roberts left her Durham, North Carolina and began driving West. Nine days later, her white Jeep Cherokee was found wrecked and abandoned at the base of the Cascade Mountains, 80 miles north of Seattle, Washington. Leah was not inside the Jeep, and to this day she still has not been found, but a later examination of the vehicle would show the engine had been tampered with and maybe someone had targeted Leah Roberts as she was out in the world, trying to find herself.

Police in Kansas City found three family members dead inside a home following a welfare check just after 9:45 AM on April 1st. The victims were 12-year-old Jerel McGeachy Jr, his mother Dominique McGeachy, and his father, Jerel McGeachy Sr.

Leah Roberts was five foot, three inches with short dark hair and a beauty mark above the right side of her lips. Leah’s life took a pretty standard path, starting with a happy childhood in Durham, North Carolina where she lived with her parents and two older siblings, sister Kara and brother Heath, until she began attending college at North Carolina State University in nearby Raleigh. Because of unexpected events and tragedies, Leah would change direction in her early 20’s and begin a journey of self exploration that would take her on an impromptu road trip. On March 9th, 2000, Leah Roberts left her Durham, North Carolina and began driving West. Nine days later, her white Jeep Cherokee was found wrecked and abandoned at the base of the Cascade Mountains, 80 miles north of Seattle, Washington. Leah was not inside the Jeep, and to this day she still has not been found, but a later examination of the vehicle would show the engine had been tampered with and maybe someone had targeted Leah Roberts as she was out in the world, trying to find herself.

Police in Kern County, California arrested 28-year-old Rosendo Tellez on March 22, 2024 after they were called to the Amtrak station in Wasco after a person had been hit by a northbound train. Tellez reportedly was hiding one of the severed legs of the victim under his sweater.
We also want to remember NYPD Officer Jonathan Diller, 31, who was tragically shot and killed while confronting repeat offender, Guy Rivera, 34. Rivera was a passenger in a vehicle when he was approached by Officer Diller and an argument ensued. Rivera would then shoot Officer Diller in the stomach under his bulletproof vest, killing him. Rivera already had 21 separate arrests according to authorities, 9 of them being felonies.

22-year-old Riley Strain was a college student at the University of Missouri where he majored in business and finance while holding an internship at Northern Mutual where he planned to work after college. In March of 2024, Riley and his Delta Chi fraternity brothers took a trip to Nashville, Tennessee for their annual Spring trip. The group arrived on a bus from Columbia on Friday, and that evening they all went out, enjoying Nashville’s colorful entertainment district. The night started with all the friends together, but at around 9:45 PM, Riley was kicked out of the bar they had been drinking at, and he left the establishment alone, telling his friends he was headed back to the hotel. Riley’s fraternity brothers never saw him again, and his disappearance sparked a very publicized search that would end in tragedy.

20-year-old Layla Santanello was last seen in her hometown of Kingsport, Tennessee on June 27th, 2023. Initially, reports were that the last sighting of Layla was at an ice cream shop on North Eastman Road where she was seen barefoot and in distress, asking to use an employee's phone before telling the employee that she was going across the road to 5 Below to purchase a pair of shoes. Now we are finding out that this may have not been valid information.
