  • Have you stopped asking?"I know you’ve asked God for something before. Maybe you got a clear no, or maybe a yes, but I think there’s many people here today that would admit that maybe you stopped asking because it didn’t seem like God was going to answer. So have you stopped asking God for the things you want or need?"If we’re honest, I think all of us would love to have a more powerful prayer life. Whether you are a seasoned saint, a fresh follower of Jesus, or unsure about what you believe, I think all of us would like to have a powerful prayer life but I think the problem is that we want that, but then overcomplicate prayer and misunderstand prayer, and then just stop praying. What would it look like to just keep asking?7 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. 9 Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? 11 If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!Matthew 7:7-11We'd love for you to subscribe to our channel and turn on notifications to get updates on our latest content and resources that will help more people know Jesus and people know Jesus more.GIVE : We believe that generosity is golden. • "Only God can judge me", has shaped the world and cultural landscape that we live in. But is it true?

Matthew 7:1 is perhaps not just the most quoted verse by non-Christians, it is probably also the most misused and misunderstood verse by humanity.

We miss what Jesus is actually saying in His brilliant Kingdom sermon on the Mount.

For many, if not most people today, there is no enemy other than the man who is not open to everything.

In His sermon on the mount, Jesus actually gives a command on how to judge. It's not a command not to judge. It is a command on how to judge the word judge. Here in the Greek, it's a word, carino, and it means to distinguish or to make a decision, to make a calculated call based upon all of the evidence that that is at hand.

In this sermon we take a dive into what it means to judge rightly, which is more needed in this time than ever.

  • Jesus, strategically places at the peak of the sermon on the mount -- the Lord's Prayer.

At the center of the center of the center of the sermon on the Mount is the Lord's Prayer. It's as if Jesus is saying that you aren't going to get the culture of the kingdom if you don't become a people of prayer.

At the center of the center of the center of the King's heart for the Kingdom is this -- on earth as it is in heaven

Jesus's thesis statement for the entire sermon and for the Lord's Prayer for his mission on planet Earth.

For the life, hope, beauty, joy, and the shalom that permeates heavenly spaces to invade this space right here, right now, today. This is Jesus's heart.

    “Our Father in heaven,

    hallowed be your name.

    10 Your kingdom come,

    your will be done,

on earth as it is in heaven.

11 Give us this day our daily bread,

12 and forgive us our debts,

as we also have forgiven our debtors.

13 And lead us not into temptation,

    but deliver us from evil.

14 For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, 15 but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

    Matthew 6:9-15

  • Jesus' sermon on the mount changed the world. Matthew, a literary genius, in recording Jesus' sermon, captures the sermon's climax dead in the middle -- the Lord's Prayer.Jesus has been building to the Lord's Prayer, in that if you want to really get the ethics and the values and the vision of the kingdom of God in your heart and your soul and your mind and in your DNA, then you need the Lord's Prayer front and center. At the center of the center of the sermon on the Mount, the greatest sermon that has ever been preached that has shaped and changed all of humanity is the Lord's Prayer. 5 “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.9 “This, then, is how you should pray:“‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,10 your kingdom come, your will be done,on earth as it is in heaven.11 Give us today our daily bread.12 And forgive us our debts,as we also have forgiven our debtors.13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. We'd love for you to subscribe to our channel and turn on notifications to get updates on our latest content and resources that will help more people know Jesus and people know Jesus more.

  • In this series our church has been working our way through the sermon on the Mount, which is the greatest sermon of all time. This is Jesus's manifesto, His vision for humanity, how he sees life working to the best. Today, at the forefront of our mind must be this -- do I actually trust that Jesus has the best vision for life? Do I actually trust that Jesus has the best vision for sex? Do I actually trust that Jesus has the best vision for marriage? 27 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ 28 But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart. 29 If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body be thrown into hell. 30 And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body go into hell.Divorce31 “It was also said, ‘Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of divorce.’ 32 But I say to you that everyone who divorces his wife, except on the ground of sexual immorality, makes her commit adultery, and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.Oaths33 “Again you have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not swear falsely, but shall perform to the Lord what you have sworn.’ 34 But I say to you, Do not take an oath at all, either by heaven, for it is the throne of God, 35 or by the earth, for it is his footstool, or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King. 36 And do not take an oath by your head, for you cannot make one hair white or black. 37 Let what you say be simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything more than this comes from evil.Matthew 5:27-37We'd love for you to subscribe to our channel and turn on notifications to get updates on our latest content and resources that will help more people know Jesus and people know Jesus more.GIVE : We believe that generosity is golden. • What would it look like for Jesus to get His way in your heart and change how you relate to people?

The reality is that there is no pain quite like people pain. Often the bitter pain we experience from people causes anger.

Anger is Murder in Seed Form - It’s the acorn before the oak tree. It starts small but if you allow it, it’ll grow and grow until its untamable and destruction will follow.

    Anger severs relationships.

    Anger short circuits your purpose.

Anger serves up regret and it tastes disgusting.

In Jesus's sermon on the mount, He teaches freedom can be found in forgiveness and that anger doesn’t need to hold you hostage.

Jesus elevates the ethic. He is not just after your hands, He is after your heart.

We'd love for you to subscribe to our channel and turn on notifications to get updates on our latest content and resources that will help more people know Jesus and people know Jesus more.

21 “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder; and whoever murders will be liable to judgment.’ 22 But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment; whoever insults[d] his brother will be liable to the council; and whoever says, ‘You fool!’ will be liable to the hell of fire. 23 So if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, 24 leave your gift there before the altar and go. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift. 25 Come to terms quickly with your accuser while you are going with him to court, lest your accuser hand you over to the judge, and the judge to the guard, and you be put in prison. 26 Truly, I say to you, you will never get out until you have paid the last penny.

38 “You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ 39 But I say to you, Do not resist the one who is evil. But if anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. 40 And if anyone would sue you and take your tunic,[h] let him have your cloak as well. 41 And if anyone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. 42 Give to the one who begs from you, and do not refuse the one who would borrow from you.

43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. 46 For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? 47 And if you greet only your brothers,[i] what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? 48 You therefore must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

    Matthew 5:21-26,38-48

  • How does The King see the scriptures in the Kingdom? How does Jesus think about the Bible?

Have you ever thought about that?

For us today, one of the big problems that we can have with the Bible is our familiarity with it. When we come to the Bible, instead of reading it as a book to redeem, challenge, and inform us, we can come to the Bible and think that we've got it figured out.

But these words, the scriptures, written on different continents and different languages for thousands of years, inform and shape what a flourishing life looks like.

The Lord Jesus, King of the universe, God's Son, and our Savior, believed His Bible was the Word of God, down to the tiniest speck, and that nothing in all those specks and in all those books in his Bible could ever be broken.

  • Jesus, in His sermon on the mount, is looking at this average group of people, and he is making this over-the-top statement--You are the salt of the earth.

You are the value of the earth. Those of you who embrace His beatitudes, who participate in the Kingdom, you become the salt of the earth.

What does it mean to be the salt of the world?

What does it mean to be the light of the world?

What was the historical context of the sermon on the mount, and who was listening?

All of these questions & more get answered in this weeks sermon "The Light & Salt of the World".

We are in the middle of a series of talks about the "Culture of the Kingdom", learning the ways of Jesus that changed the world.

13 “You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people's feet.

14 “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

  • Jesus in the sermon on the mount, invites Gentiles, poor people, females, sinners, the sick, and the most unacceptable in society into the Kingdom of God.

Jesus starts the greatest sermon of all time by disrupting our assumptions about the good life, about the blessed life.

The power of the kingdom always flows to those who need it most. It's these kind of people, who are in positions like this, who develop postures that are most able to see their need for God.

    Matthew 5:1-12

5 Seeing the crowds, he went up on the mountain, and when he sat down, his disciples came to him.

    The Beatitudes

2 And he opened his mouth and taught them, saying:

3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

4 “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.

5 “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.

6 “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.

7 “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.

8 “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.

9 “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons[a] of God.

10 “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11 “Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. 12 Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

  • This sermon was, and will be, the greatest sermon ever preached.

Since the beginning of time, great speeches have shaped the world. Martin Luther King's I have a dream to fight for equal rights. John F Kennedy, we're going to the moon. When we took one huge step for mankind. Winston Churchill's we shall fight on the beaches before we storm the beaches at Normandy. But no words have shaped our world like those found in Jesus's Sermon on the Mount.

These words have created new world views. They've elevated ethics; they've captured the imaginations of philosophers and thinkers, both Christian and secular alike. These ancient words, spoken by a rabbi on a mountainside in first century Palestine, have been more read, repeated, and studied than almost any other words in history.

These words created a culture, and we'll do it again today.

  • Have you ever considered how much of Jesus ministry happened around the table? One of the things that you might pick up on in Luke's investigation in the life of Jesus in his gospel, is the theme of memorable meals.

The church is not the church, the atmosphere is not the ekklesia, without you consistently gathering with other people around the table.

What would happen if you reimagined how you started thinking about the table? Early on in the Christian movement, Christianity didn't take shape behind pulpits, altars, or in books. It took shape around a table.

42 And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. 43 And awe[a] came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. 44 And all who believed were together and had all things in common. 45 And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. 46 And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.

    Acts 2:42-47

  • Life is about relationships.

More than anywhere else on the planet, the Church is where you will really find your people. It's where you'll find your people to do life with. Your people who will sharpen you, your people who will encourage you, your people who will inspire you, people who will be there for you and with you.

When Jesus names his people The Church, He is making this declarative statement that He didn't come to just build a building, and He didn't come to just start a religion.

He came to create a new people, a people who would be called out of the world and assembled or gathered together for His purposes.

"42 And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. 43 And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. • There are generations of Christians that have devoted their minds and lives to getting the message of the Gospel to people. Which is great…. but this is the reality - Tools don’t mean anything if we don’t share them.

Our prayer is that this message of the kingdom would ignite urgency and fire in our generation to share the Gospel often and with passion.

5 reasons we must urgently share the message of the Kingdom.

Reason 1 - It is Plan A for the Kingdom.

Reason 2 - It is Good News.

Reason 3 - It is a war for the soul.

Reason 4 - It is our mission for every person to hear.

Reason 5 - It is the power of God.

"8 And he entered the synagogue and for three months spoke boldly, reasoning and persuading them about the kingdom of God. 9 But when some became stubborn and continued in unbelief, speaking evil of the Way before the congregation, he withdrew from them and took the disciples with him, reasoning daily in the hall of Tyrannus. 10 This continued for two years, so that all the residents of Asia heard the word of the Lord, both Jews and Greeks.

    The Sons of Sceva

11 And God was doing extraordinary miracles by the hands of Paul, 12 so that even handkerchiefs or aprons that had touched his skin were carried away to the sick, and their diseases left them and the evil spirits came out of them."

    Acts 19:8-11

  • The beauty of Spiritual conversations is that they are doorways that God uses to open people’s hearts and minds to the hope of Jesus.

Every conversation is a divine appointment waiting to happen and an opportunity to share the Good News of the Gospel with anyone, anywhere.

We live in a world where news is everywhere that you look. It’s on social media, it’s on billboards and in magazines and newspapers. Our feeds are filled with the latest headlines; typically those headlines aren’t all so good-- tragedy, war, and division flood our feeds.

In a world full of so much negativity, deep down, our souls are craving a message that speaks to the deepest desires of our hearts.

One of Jesus’ primary purposes of coming to earth was to bring Good News.

22 So Paul, standing in the midst of the Areopagus, said: “Men of Athens, I perceive that in every way you are very religious. 23 For as I passed along and observed the objects of your worship, I found also an altar with this inscription: ‘To the unknown god.’ What therefore you worship as unknown, this I proclaim to you. 24 The God who made the world and everything in it, being Lord of heaven and earth, does not live in temples made by man,25 nor is he served by human hands, as though he needed anything, since he himself gives to all mankind life and breath and everything. 26 And he made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their dwelling place, 27 that they should seek God, and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him. Yet he is actually not far from each one of us,

28 for “‘In him we live and move and have our being’; as even some of your own poets have said, “‘For we are indeed his offspring.’

29 Being then God's offspring, we ought not to think that the divine being is like gold or silver or stone, an image formed by the art and imagination of man. 30 The times of ignorance God overlooked, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent, 31 because he has fixed a day on which he will judge the world in righteousness by a man whom he has appointed; and of this he has given assurance to all by raising him from the dead.”

32 Now when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked. But others said, “We will hear you again about this.” 33 So Paul went out from their midst. 34 But some men joined him and believed, among whom also were Dionysius the Areopagite and a woman named Damaris and others with them.

    Acts 17:22-33

  • Jesus, in Matthew 25, uses this brilliant contextual illustration about sheep and goats to paint the picture of what it is going to be like when He comes back.

"You've gotta get this in your bones that the God who became flesh will come back to rule as king, and he will sit on a throne, and he will bring angels with him."

    Joey McLaughlin

In this message we look at:

    The Return of The King.

The Glory of the Kings Return

The Gathering of the Kings Return

The Sheep and Goats at the Kings Return

The Judgement at the Kings Return

The Blessing and Banquet at the Kings Return.

31 “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne. 32 Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33 And he will place the sheep on his right, but the goats on the left. 34 Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, 36 I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’ 37 Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? 38 And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? 39 And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ 40 And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’

41 “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42 For I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.’ 44 Then they also will answer, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to you?’ 45 Then he will answer them, saying, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.’ 46 And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”

  • One day, we will stand before Jesus and give an account for our lives.

That should motivate us and change how we live today.

Jesus has given us HIS KINGDOM to live in today and He’s coming back at a time we won’t expect and when He does, He’s coming as the King and He is gonna ask us: “What did you do with the life that I gave you?”

Through a series of parables, Jesus encourages us to live awake, to live prepared, and to live like He’s coming back.

In this message, Pastor Joe Baker gives a powerful message teaching on the Parable of the Talents.

    The Parable of the Talents

14 “For it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted to them his property. 15 To one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one, to each according to his ability. Then he went away. 16 He who had received the five talents went at once and traded with them, and he made five talents more. 17 So also he who had the two talents made two talents more. 18 But he who had received the one talent went and dug in the ground and hid his master's money. 19 Now after a long time the master of those servants came and settled accounts with them. 20 And he who had received the five talents came forward, bringing five talents more, saying, ‘Master, you delivered to me five talents; here, I have made five talents more.’ 21 His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’ 22 And he also who had the two talents came forward, saying, ‘Master, you delivered to me two talents; here, I have made two talents more.’ 23 His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’ 24 He also who had received the one talent came forward, saying, ‘Master, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you did not sow, and gathering where you scattered no seed, 25 so I was afraid, and I went and hid your talent in the ground. Here, you have what is yours.’ 26 But his master answered him, ‘You wicked and slothful servant! You knew that I reap where I have not sown and gather where I scattered no seed? 27 Then you ought to have invested my money with the bankers, and at my coming I should have received what was my own with interest. 28 So take the talent from him and give it to him who has the ten talents. 29 For to everyone who has will more be given, and he will have an abundance. But from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away. 30 And cast the worthless servant into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

    Matthew 25:14-30

  • In this parable the orphan finds their adoption. In this parable the proud are humbled. In this parable the wayward find their way home.In this parable the refugee finds shelterIn this parable the hurting find healingIn this parable the sinner finds their savior. This is the parable of the prodigal son. 11 And he said, “There was a man who had two sons. 12 And the younger of them said to his father, ‘Father, give me the share of property that is coming to me.’ And he divided his property between them. 13 Not many days later, the younger son gathered all he had and took a journey into a far country, and there he squandered his property in reckless living. 14 And when he had spent everything, a severe famine arose in that country, and he began to be in need. 15 So he went and hired himself out to one of the citizens of that country, who sent him into his fields to feed pigs. 16 And he was longing to be fed with the pods that the pigs ate, and no one gave him anything.17 “But when he came to himself, he said, ‘How many of my father's hired servants have more than enough bread, but I perish here with hunger! 18 I will arise and go to my father, and I will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you. 19 I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Treat me as one of your hired servants.”’ 20 And he arose and came to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion, and ran and embraced him and kissed him. 21 And the son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’ 22 But the father said to his servants,[d] ‘Bring quickly the best robe, and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet. 23 And bring the fattened calf and kill it, and let us eat and celebrate. 24 For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found.’ And they began to celebrate.25 “Now his older son was in the field, and as he came and drew near to the house, he heard music and dancing. 26 And he called one of the servants and asked what these things meant. 27 And he said to him, ‘Your brother has come, and your father has killed the fattened calf, because he has received him back safe and sound.’ 28 But he was angry and refused to go in. His father came out and entreated him, 29 but he answered his father, ‘Look, these many years I have served you, and I never disobeyed your command, yet you never gave me a young goat, that I might celebrate with my friends. 30 But when this son of yours came, who has devoured your property with prostitutes, you killed the fattened calf for him!’ 31 And he said to him, ‘Son, you are always with me, and all that is mine is yours. 32 It was fitting to celebrate and be glad, for this your brother was dead, and is alive; he was lost, and is found.’”Luke 15:11-32We'd love for you to subscribe to our channel and turn on notifications to get updates on our latest content and resources that will help more people know Jesus and people know Jesus more.GIVE : We believe that generosity is golden. • When Jesus walked this earth, more than he talked about money or peace or faith or politics, He talked about The Kingdom.

The Kingdom of God, or the Kingdom of Heaven, or simply, the Kingdom. And when talking about the Kingdom, we have to be reminded that it’s simple enough for a child to understand and enter in, but also complex enough for you to never feel like you’ve got it all figured out.

Jesus, when speaking about the Kingdom, didn’t give us definitions for what the Kingdom of God is. Instead, he gave illustrations. He told stories -- parables.

Jesus communicated through stories to connect with the hearts of His audience and deposit truth into their souls.

Parables are simply practical stories or earthly stories with a heavenly meaning.

Today, we’re diving into a story Jesus told that shakes us up and calls us out. It's about a banquet, but not just any banquet—it's a royal feast hosted by the King Himself. And guess what? You’re invited to dine with the King.

But there’s a twist with this story, because it’s in this story that Jesus exposes the excuses that we make that lead to us rejecting His invitation.

  • The most famous parable is the Good Samaritan.

Can you just consider how there is no good reason that this small story, just seven verses told by some irrelevant Jewish rabbi, would show up in secular institutions and on political platforms?

We name hospitals after this story. People, some of the most famous painters in the world, would want to paint this story that this little rabbi told in the middle of nowhere.

It speaks to something within us that is transcendent, something that is intrinsic... It speaks to something in us as humanity that says this is the way that things should be.
