Hey EIChampions 🏆 ! Come and take an EIC-style spin 🚗 around the football ⚽️ block: it's the World Cup's world 🌍 & we're all just living in it, baby 💋. (It's coming home FYI.)This week on the podcast we are without Ruchira, who is currently on honeymoon. She’ll be back in a couple of weeks and we’ll do a big wedding debrief then- but for this episode, as you will hear, we are joined by Jack Rivlin from The Upshot podcast! The show where he, alongside Zach Sweeney Lynch, covers brilliantly funny sports stories - everything from drunken dressing-room escapades to deep dives into famous sports personalities and their scandalous lives. Their current world cup coverage is also absolutely unmissable. First up, we give our predictions for Saturday's game, recommend our favourite animals to get betting advice from, and discuss the hottest football managers (spoiler: it's all of them). Then we talk about something messy- no, not Lionel - but ongoing allegations towards FIFA of corruption, US favouritism and collusion with Donald Trump. Perhaps the biggest recent example of this was the decision to rescind a red card suspension of US player Folarin Balogun and allow him to play in a last-16 match earlier this week against Belgium. As Jack calls it, it's a 'love-in' between Trump & Infantino.Next up, we're sure everyone knows what a WAG is- but in case you’re waking up from a 30-year coma- it’s a term meaning 'Wives And Girlfriends', usually attributed to the partners of professional footballers. The origin of the term is somewhat disputed- some say it was christened in 2002 with coverage of teenage Colleen after Wayne Rooney’s first Premier League goal, others say it goes back even further to the infamous purple-outfitted Posh & Beck’s wedding of 1999. We reminisce on the best to ever do it!And lastly, some salacious stories from some of the most famous men in sport! Plus lots of meandering, philandering, Haaland-pandering, tangents in the middle! We hope you enjoy ☺️ , as always please do rate, review, and follow the show! And share with your friends! And leave a Spotify comment!Love you, byeeeeeeeeeee. The Upshot2026 World Cup: The murky ties between FIFA and the US2015 FIFA corruption scandalTrump Asked FIFA to Review U.S. Player’s Suspension. Hello EICustard Creams! For this week's bonus we're discussing the ethics of wearing or owning smart glasses. It's a tech that has existed in various forms for over a decade, first with Google Glass, then Apple’s Vision Pro, which caused concern on release for featuring twelve cameras, six microphones and two depth sensors. And now Meta, along with other big tech giants, are expanding their own smart glass collections, ponying up for huge celebrity endorsements and seeking to normalise the tech for everyday wear. Hello ‘ello EICrashouts!Happy Friday but even more importantly- happy wedding day to our beloved Ruchira! If you’ve not sorted your wedding gift yet don’t fret. The bride and groom have requested 5 star ratings and gorgeous reviews for the pod. Onto the episode…First up we’re discussing a truly bonkers run of celebrity endorsements. Timothée Chalamet for controversial prediction market Kalshi, his partner Kylie Jenner shilling Meta’s new Starfire AI glasses and Gwyneth Paltrow advertising luxury real estate in Israel… are some celebrities too famous for consequences? And how fat were those paycheques? Next up a new philosophy on the block- Bimbo Stoicism. Described as “a viral internet subculture that blends ancient Stoic emotional detachment with hyper-feminine, reclaimed "bimbo" aesthetics” with “a core philosophy encouraging women to reject rigid patriarchal beauty hierarchies and embrace self-acceptance by identifying with a "twin animal" that matches their natural features and demeanour.” Word salad or a chance to escape a lifetime of female-coded suffering? And finally: a steamy streamer to heatedly rival Heated Rivalry: Off Campus on Amazon Prime. Adapted from a book series of the same name by Elle Kennedy, the series is set at the fictional Briar University and follows music student Hannah Wells as she makes a deal with star hockey player and team captain Garrett Graham to start a fake relationship in exchange for her tutoring him. Hello EICherries 🍒 This week is a very special author episode with the incredibly talented and successful Candice Carty-Williams. It was an honour to speak to her about her highly anticipated sequel to the beloved Queenie – her debut novel exploring the highs and lows of a 20-something young Black woman. She was very open about the struggles of adapting the story for TV; why she decided to bring the character back now; chosen families, and her experience of productivity pressure and desperately needing to switch off.We loved speaking with her. Please do give us a rating or a Spotify comment on any topics we discussed, as we'd love to hear from you <3Love O,R,B xxxx-------Queenie Is Working On It is OUT NOW. Hello EIClimate worriers, we're back with a new episode spanning heatwaves, hot wedding fashion and a temperature check on Gen Z's futures.First up, our dear, dear friend Dua got married recently and kindly shared *the* dress publicly last weekend. Was it an EIC slay or nay? Find out. We also wade into the most ridiculous discourse we've ever encountered, arguably – all centred on Anne Hathaway's pregnancy. Then there's only one subject on the UK's mind right now: heatwave. We dive into the frustrating and unreasonable online discourse around the climate. And finally, Generation Bedroom. No, these aren't fun teens sleeping in; they're a generation of unemployed, disenfranchised young people pushed out of jobs and entering the world. Thank you for listening to us this week! Remember to keep hydrated and stay safe in the heat. Love O,R.B xoxoThis week Ruchira watched The Alien Autopsy Scandal and read I Who Have Never Known Men. Hello EIChloe Sevignys, this week, one of the big cultural talking points is can AI ever replicate taste? And should we all be actively protecting our own, regardless of how good or bad it is?In March, Kyle Chayka wrote a piece for The New Yorker titled: Why Tech Bros Are Now Obsessed with Taste. In it, he quoted several key tech figures who present taste as the final frontier for AI tech bros - almost like the one human trait they’re finding impossible to replicate. In May, Trend forecaster and founder of the strategy firm Nemesis Global, Emily Segal, coined the term “tasteslop” to describe the repetitive, recycled visuals littering the internet that feel devoid of any human point of view, almost like gorgeous blandness. Lots of it, she points out, feels like this because it’s generated by AI and then replicated over and over. And of course, last week, Polyester released ‘The Polyester Book of Bad Taste’, a collection of essays edited by its editor-in-chief Ione Gamble. The book is described as an antidote to ever-creeping homogeneity and bland tastefulness. “In a world constantly vying for our attention, having faith in your own (bad) taste is more than a small subversion – it's a rallying cry to live our lives unapologetically.”We talk all things taste, with your help! Thank you so much for all of your takes on this topic we love being in conversation with you all! Happy Wednesday EICrickets! In today's episode we're joined by writer and novelist Jem Calder, whose debut novel I Want You To Be Happy was released last month. The three of us all separately recommended the book on the pod, and we're in good company as fans. Andrew O'Hagan called Jem his "new favourite writer" and Sally Rooney said it was an "irresistible novel that asks complex questions about contemporary life and refuses easy answers. I couldn't stop reading." The book follows the unfurling, complicated relationship between Chuck, a 35-year-old copywriter working at a large ad agency, and Joey, a 23-year-old barista living payday to payday who nurtures a quiet ambition of becoming a poet. We talk to Jem about the themes of his novel- don't worry, no spoilers- plus the writing process, what he thinks about modern dating, dating apps, men who refuse to grow up and being "discovered" by Sally Rooney. Plus plenty of book recs & writing advice. Thanks so much for listening! See you Friday! Hello EICrystals! This week on the podcast- shocking sex stunts, digital literary drama, surveillance for safety. Plus: a suspicious vibrating sound, Oenone losing her voice & Ruchira filing paperwork. First up- provocateur and viral adult creator Bonnie Blue is back in the headlines after turning her baby shower into... well, a very different kind of shower. The 27-year-old has begun releasing footage from Saturday's event, where 112 attendees reportedly took part over the course of six hours. Is this an adult entertainer exercising her bodily autonomy or a huge safeguarding concern for her unborn baby? And are we complicit for covering it? Let us know in the comments/ our DMs if you think this should be the last time we say the words Bonnie or Blue on the pod.Next up- we know that hot girls read, but do hot girls also file trademarks for widely used phrases they didn't invent? Last week business owner and BookTok creator Allie Mitrovich announced (in a now-deleted post) that she had officially secured the registration for the phrase "Hot Girls Read". We track the backlash, the outcome and ask why everyone online thinks they have to be a business owner. And finally: UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has announced that tech companies must introduce in-built software that stops underage users from taking or sharing nudes. Apple and Google have both been given until September to comply or will face legislation to force them to do so. Is this a major win for child safety or a sly attack on all of our most fundamental privacy rights? We hope you luuuurve today's episode because we luuuurved making it for you. Hello EICornettos! It's been a hefty week in the world of pop culture, so grab a lolly and let's get into it.Oenone is away at a wedding... very unusual timing because Mr and Mrs Dua Lipa legally tied the knot last week. The guidance issued to public bodies, businesses and other service providers, has been approved by ministers. It’s such a dark time in UK politics, we speak to Maxine about the real world implications on trans people, how we got here, and what we can do to help.Sending lots of love to every trans person out there, we love you & so do all of our mates. Happy Friday EICompetitors! This week on the podcast, what lengths will humans not go to, to feel a little bit special?First up, a 2025 survey by the American Academy of Dermatology revealed that half of Gen Z participants got a sunburn in 2024, with 10% getting burns severe enough to cause blisters. They also found that 37% didn’t know the risks of tanning and 57% believed common tanning myths- e.g. that a base tan protects you from sunburn. More than a fifth of Gen Z respondents prioritise getting a tan over protecting their skin, and 25% said that it’s worth looking good now even if it means their skin looks worse down the line. Is this just the naivety of youth? Or does it signal something shifting in culture? We talk everything tanning!Secondly, what does extreme wealth do to the brain? This is the title of a piece for New York magazine by Lane Brown, and the question he tries to answer within it. So Lane Brown you may also remember authored The Feed Is Fake, about stealth marketing online which we discussed in last week’s episode. And for this piece about the ultra-rich, he spent two months interviewing the 0.1 and 0.001% and asking them how money has changed the way they think, how their worldview shifted when they were no longer under the same financial constraints and how becoming mega rich altered their perception of status, friendship, obligation and maybe even reality itself. And lastly, while we were enhancing the UK bank holiday heatwave with picky bits, day drinking and ice lollies, over in Las Vegas, another kind of enhancement was going on at The Enhanced Games. Is this just inevitable in a world of optimisation? We discuss. We hope you enjoy, as always please do rate, review and share the show, it helps others to find it and us to keep making it! LY! Hello EICorroborators! Happy Friday and welcome back to Everything Is Content- your one stop podcast shop for everything pop culture and beyond. This week- and trigger warning for discussion of sexual violence and abuse- we're discussing BBC Panorama's harrowing new documentary ‘The Dark Side of Married at First Sight' in which former MAFs UK contestant Shona Manderson alleges that her on-screen partner had sex with her without a condom against her wishes. She alleges the team took her to get the morning after pill, but that nothing else was done. The show has pulled all of its episodes from the internet while discussions continue to rage on about how reality TV can't seem to stop failing its subjects. We share our takes as (former) fans of the show.Next up we're talking about Harry Styles' new tour- which has been criticised after some attendees reported having little to no visibility of their fav as he happily scampered around his enormous walkway stage set-up. Has the singer prioritised his Strava over his set design? We investigate. Then we mull over Jacob Elordi's love life after the actor was spotted out and about with model and the inventor of tequila, Kendall Jenner. The internet has separated into two camps in response to the possible pairing- people saying "huh??" and people saying "duh...". Plus: Everything In Conversation with... Kylie? Also (and we're sorry) we chat about Elon Musk's latest MORONIC OUTBURST after the friendless loser suggested that Oscar winning actress and generational beauty Lupita Nyong'o was somehow badly cast as the fictional generational beauty Helen of Troy in Christopher Nolan's upcoming adaptation of Homer's Odyssey. We insult Elon Musk's pathetic existence discuss with consideration for all sides. And finally we revisit the topic of internet fakery and advertising creep after a new piece in Vulture by Lane Brown suggested that just about everything we see online nowadays has been placed there to sell us something. From the piece: "On social media, popular opinion is being formed, measured, and manipulated all at once, and every signal the platforms produce... can now be fabricated by unseen actors with hidden agendas." In other words... is it time to log off? This week Ruchira was loving Legends on Netflix and Lost Lambs by Madeline Cash, Oenone was loving Sister Europe by Nell Zink and Beth was loving SNL UK and London Falling by Patrick Radden Keefe. Happy Wednesday EIChatters! To voice note or not to voice note, that is the question. In a piece for the Independent from the start of the year Helen Coffey explored whether a rise in voice notes has helped kill the art of conversation. She writes that despite being an initial sceptic about voice notes and finding them awkward and less useful than a phone call, she has since come around and become a primary source of communication in her circle.A 2025 survey commissioned by Sky Mobile found that 62% of voice note recipients had experienced ‘voice note fatigue’, and 20% said they’d personally received a voice note longer than 10 minutes. More than one in ten said they received over 10 voice notes a day, and 44% said they listened at double speed to get through them quicker. There’s also apparently a geographical element to this that suggests the UK is actually lagging behind other countries in our adoption of recorded messages. A 2024 YouGov survey found that 48% of Indian respondents either preferred receiving voice notes or liked them just as much as texts, compared to just 18% of people in Great Britain. We dive in with your help!We hope you enjoy, as always please do rate, review and share us with a friend :) Kisses!
