  • Welcome back to the Evolve Move Play podcast!

In this episode Jordan Hall and I explore the role of embodiment in addressing the meta crisis facing humanity.

Jordan shares his background in the tech industry and the origins of the Game B project, which seeks to understand and respond to the interconnected challenges of our time. The discussion delves into the relationship between individuals and institutions, the evolution of paradigmatic thinking, and the shift from a world of rhythm to one of tone.

We examine the tension between truth-first and beauty-first approaches to reality, and how this relates to the historical relationship between science and religion. We also discuss the concept of faith as an embodied capacity, situated within a stack of communication, understanding, hope, and love.

Our conversation highlights the importance of embodied practices in developing virtue, cultivating faith, and navigating the complexities of the meta crisis. Perhaps one key to moving forward is to avoid panic and to love more deeply, emphasizing the transformative power of embodiment in personal and collective growth.

  • Welcome back to the Evolve Move Play Podcast!

Today's episode was filmed at the ARC Conference in London and features our guest Rob Henderson, author of the book Troubled: A Memoir of Foster Care, Family, and Social Class.

Rob grew up in foster homes in Los Angeles and the rural town of Red Bluff, California. He joined the Air Force at the age of seventeen. After his enlistment, he graduated from Yale University with a BS in psychology and was subsequently awarded a Gates Cambridge Scholarship.

Once described as 'self-made' by the New York Times, Rob received a PhD in psychology from St. Catharine's College, Cambridge in 2022. His writing has appeared in the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, the Boston Globe, and the New York Post, among other outlets. Rob's popular Substack newsletter is sent each week to more than forty thousand subscribers.

In our chat today we will discuss Rob’s background and upbringing, as well as share our thoughts on growing into manhood, cultivating positive masculine virtues, social media, and what makes a good man or woman as opposed to what makes a good person.

I really enjoyed getting the chance to talk to Rob, and hopefully we’ll be able to continue our chat in the near future. If you also enjoy the conversation, be sure to support the channel with a like, subscribe, and share.

  • Welcome back to the Evolve Move Play Podcast!

Today we’re joined by Joseph Bartz

Joseph Germany, to an artistic family of writers, musicians and people working in the theater. He went through the Waldorf method of schooling, which outside of the usual subjects also puts a lot of value into crafting, music and dancing.

At 13 years old, Joseph started delving into various disciplines of physical practice. Starting with martial arts and strength training, his interests expanded to include parkour and aspects of natural movement such as tree climbing and doing most things barefoot. He also became interested in wilderness training and primitive skills, which he has been learning with Uwe Belz.

Joseph would take his passion for these physical practices and build a career around them, he has taught countless workshops and helped thousands of students deepen their knowledge and relationship to movement.

Today he’s joining us to talk about a variety of topics, including the deep meaning that can be obtained through developing a robust ecology of practices, and how the process of building a skillful body should not only enhance your physical abilities, but your strength of character as well.

I really enjoyed having Joseph on the show, and hopefully we’ll be able to continue our chat in the near future. If you also enjoy the conversation, be sure to support the channel with a like, subscribe, and share.

Welcome back to the Evolve Move Play Podcast!

Today we’re joined by Masa Suzuki.

While he’s been a member of the parkour community since 2004, Masa’s movement journey has led him to become incredibly skilled in a wide variety of arts and disciplines, including ninjitsu, tumbling, and professional dance. He’s also spent a lot of time training in the realm of movement culture, both with Ido Portal and our good friends over at Fighting Monkey.

Having such a similar breadth of experience that also initially stemmed from a deep love for parkour, we were really excited to have him join us. During this chat we’ll dive into how his training and philosophy has evolved over the years, the powerful influences of injury, culture, language, and intention, and the importance of adaptability in both how we move, and how we approach problems in our lives.

I really enjoyed having Masa on the show, if you also enjoyed this conversation and would like to support the channel, be sure to share, leave a like, comment, and subscribe if you haven’t.

Welcome back to the Evolve Move Play Podcast!

Today we’re joined by Julian Donovan.

Most of you might not know who Julian is as he’s been out of the parkour scene for about a decade now, but back in the early days he was a core member of the Cambridge parkour scene and a regular contributor to the old web forums that would serve as a global hub for the parkour community.

Today Julian works as an emergency medicine doctor, but I wanted to sit down and talk to him about those early days of parkour, how the art has evolved, and how the philosophy of parkour has shaped both his personal and professional life.

I really enjoyed having Julian on the show, if you also enjoyed this conversation and would like to support the channel, be sure to share, leave a like, comment, and subscribe if you haven’t.
