  • Imagine waking up one day with a profound need to transform personal pain into a tool for healing others. That's exactly what Melanie Gareau, a teacher, principal, and now author, did. After facing the heartbreaking loss of a student to suicide, she embarked on a journey of catharsis and empowerment, resulting in her book 'Why Me? Why Now?'. The book, born of raw emotions and channeled through her inner voice, serves as a guide to help teenagers navigate the complex pain of loss. The power of journaling, a method she utilised in her healing process, unfolds in her narratives, shifting the control of her thoughts and guiding her towards creating a conduit of empathy and understanding for struggling teenagers.

Melanie's work resonates with a profound understanding of teen struggles, courageously facing her own traumatic experiences to provide her readers with a sense of connection. Her book is not just about stories but about reflections, a mirror for teenagers to see themselves and find solace. Melanie emphasises the importance of self-reflection in finding answers, encouraging teenagers to harness their inner voice. From a chapter on body image that follows a young girl's struggle with an eating disorder to her own story of self-consciousness, Melanie's work aims to show teenagers that they are seen, understood, and not alone in their journey.

In this journey, Melanie not only bore her soul but also stepped out of her comfort zone, pursuing her personal dreams of authoring a book. In our conversation, we discuss the transformative power of resilience and how our actions can influence our children. Melanie's bold steps speak volumes about the importance of taking care of ourselves and reminds us that our children are always observing and learning from us. So, join us in this episode, as we explore the transformative power of resilience, self-reflection, and pursuing personal dreams. After all, every step we take towards our dreams sets an example for those who look up to us.
