  • Imagine you are running an international, impact-driven business, and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity (we are talking a multi-million-dollar deal with global impact) lands on your table. Imagine declining that offer because you want to focus on your family and your impact on your nearest and dearest. Are you then crazy? Or selfish? Or, actually, a very mature entrepreneur who walks his talk about being a thought leader and a caring business owner?

This week's guest is Sebastian Bates, who did just that - declined a multi-7-figure deal. Sebastian is the Founder and CEO of the Warrior Academy and The Bates Foundation charity. Originally from the UK, he has over 25 years of experience in 6 different styles of martial arts as well as a strong competition background competing from amateur to professional level both nationally and internationally.

Sebastian originally started Martial Arts as a child to develop his confidence and help him transition through bullying. Now he and his team are helping thousands of children through their challenging transitions every week.

In this episode, you will learn about:

Sebastian's contrarian take on bullying that every parent should embrace for themselves and their kidsentrepreneurs' special abilities that can become their blessing or a cursechoosing an impact that truly matters to youSebastian's hiring mistakes and learnings about building and nurturing company culture

  • If you as a leader are feeling like your business is a bullet train going full speed on tracks you have no control over, stop. Take a breath. And let's talk about what it means to lead teams and organizations in 2024.

Bill Dickinson, a former Roman Catholic priest who left the priesthood to be more authentic as a leader and show up as a whole self which included coming out as a gay man. Through his more than 30 years of leadership experience, Bill has learned about empathy, self-awareness and self-regulation, and is now helping us understand how we can secure our success as leaders in the modern world.

In this episode, you will learn about:

why you can't bypass working on yourself to practice empathy towards othershow can leaders design their teams and work to promote employees' continuous learningthe issues with top leadership that we both decline working withthe ways you can get to know your employees and help them growwhich skills we see as valuable in the near future

  • Being a leader is very hard. Managers need to navigate the constantly changing business context with new strategic directives, employee turnover, new technology, etc. Outdated one-size-fits-all approaches to leading, irrespective of the team members' background, group dynamic, and leaders' personal needs and preferences. Conflicting priorities of different stakeholder groups that have to be juggled and combined without any adverse effects on the team's productivity. And as a cherry on the cake, the classical lack of time for leader’s important, yet not urgent tasks.

I developed a simple framework and self-assessment that has been helping my clients and workshop participants to get out of overwhelm for over 3 years now. We break the complex leadership role into three dimensions and examine each of them. You quickly see the patterns - what are your strengths that you are ignoring but can leverage even more instead; which areas actually stress you out, and how can you put intentional effort into improving those.

  • Boundaries seems to be a cringy topic for many clients and connections of mine. But it doesn't have to be! Instead of seeing yourself as a harsh, selfish (in a negative way) person if you set and protect your boundaries, you can see them as the way to live the life you desire and deserve. • Are online games for losers only? Is it where sociopaths go to hide from real world? You can think what you want of gaming but it is here to stay. I know brilliant and successful entrepreneurs and leaders (including some of my clients) who are gamers in their free time. And today's guest of mine is a fantastic example of a gamer who is successful and valuable in the real world.

Dana Sydorenko, Co-founder and CEO of a social platform for gamers, GameTree, believes that toxicity issues in gaming are not because of the nature of the games, nor is it due to the audience it attracts. Instead, it is a highlight of the issues our society has overall. By making the gaming world feel safer and more inclusive, GameTree can teach individuals, businesses, and our society as a whole how we can tackle these issues.

In this episode, you will learn about:

Dana's learnings from her time as a paramedic in the Ukrainian Army, and how she is using them in her entrepreneurial journeyGameTree's social engineering philosophy and practices that companies can apply for creating inclusive, healthy cultureDana's recent listing on Forbes' 30Under30 list and what it means to her

  • For years, we have been discussing that mysterious work-life balance. Some manage to find it, often through a major crisis or burnout. Others don't resonate with the term and think it is counterintuitive. Yet if this term is so unhelpful, why is it so sticky?

I am a nerd for definitions. And not the dictionary ones, but the ones each of us carry in our subconsciousness, defining the ways we think, act, react, dream, plan... well, do anything. So in this episode, we dive into exploration of the definition of "balance". I offer you a new perspective for this concept, to make it more flexible, playful, realistic, and useful in our everyday realities.

  • Imagine eating only burgers for the rest of your life. And not only when you are hungry but also when you are thirsty, tired, excited, sleepy, sad, angry, etc. Just. Burgers.

No matter how much you love this dish, you will eventually get fed up with it. Even the juiciest patties and the freshest buns will not bring you joy or satisfaction anymore.

This is what many of us do with our self-care. What is your "self-care burger," aka a "one-thing-fits-all-purposes[-or-not]" crutch?

This episode suggests an easy and fun exercise to add variety to your self-care and make it more easily available even on your busiest days. I use it, my clients love it, even my husband did this exercise! So try it and see some magic unfold.

  • The term "lifestyle business" has gotten a bad reputation recently, with many picturing a lazy/unambitious person who does not really want to put much effort into their work, yet still expecting wealth. Does "lifestyle" have to mean lying on the beach and drinking pina colladas all day long? Can you still be ambitious and produce great results for your clients and society?
