While Lonny dreams of growing the family business, Wilma reveals the financial strain she is under thanks to hospital bills and ranch repairs. Lonny and Wilma try to rein in Miriam’s spirit as she’s determined to break free from the ranch, citing Harlean as a role model. Harlean steps out on the town with a banker, selling a good time in exchange for a luxurious dinner and a roll of the dice at The Willows, Reno’s most glamorous nightclub.

Violet meets her new roommate, Harlean Beaumont, a Reno “regular” whose brazen personality clashes with Violet’s conservative values. In the spring of 1932, as Reno, Nevada corners the market on the quickie divorce industry, Violet Miller arrives at the Wayward Breeze Ranch to complete her six weeks of residency for a legal divorce. The recently widowed owner, Wilma Tülinen, helps her settle in as she explains the rules of Violet’s new world. And, as the clock strikes midnight, a frantic Wilma calls the police to locate her rebellious daughter, Miriam, somewhere in the biggest little city in the world.
